The Algarve League First Division campaign will start on 28th September, when Imortal will have a trip to the less than delightful Penha ground in Faro to play the 11 Esperanças.

Same set-up as last year. Twelve teams will play one complete round than the league splits into two groups of six for promotion and relegation deciders.

Arriving 8 September and departing 15 September and staying just outside Albufeira...

Are these the only games to watch locally:

Sunday 8th September 5pm / 1700hrs

Louletano v Ferreiras at the Algarve Stadium
Olhanense v Armacanenses
Juventude Évora v Moncarapachense

Not sure we'll be able to make these due to flights/transfers.

Will there be any midweek games (would be preference) or any on Saturday 14 September?

Thanks!

Few games this coming weekend because of the internationals and the Portuguese Cup. The Algarve League does not start until September 28th.

There is no midweek football as a rule and none I know of next week.

On Saturday 14th there is a third division match at the Algarve Stadium, a local derby between Louletano and Olhanense. This will be a slightly surreal game played in front of 1,000 people at the very most in a 29,000 seat stadium.  Kickoff is 1600hrs / 4pm.

The Algarve stadium is the big one by the motorway between Faro and Loulé.

There is no public transport at the stadium or anywhere near that can be used, so you need a car.

Portimonense are due to play FC Porto that weekend but TV, believe it or not, has yet to decide when the game will be played. (Their attitude towards fans who actually wish to go to the stadium is remarkable.) Not that there would be any chance of getting a ticket.

Farense (2nd Division) are playing Sunday, the other third division games are also on Sunday.

Thanks for your insight, Cubsur

Will try to get to the Louletano and Olhanense game

Would you recommend trying to get a lift/taxi so we can enjoy a few beers at the game, or should we just drive and have the beers when we get home?!

Thanks again

Last time I went there there was no bar open. Certainly not worth paying €40 each way in a taxi to not have a beer!

The stadium is in open countryside 15 minutes walk, at least, from the nearest habitation. It was built for Euro 2004 and has been almost un-used ever since, apart from Louletano (who are subsidised), occasional internationals and pre-season matches plus Gibraltar used it for a while.

Double check ko time here next week. I took the information from the official Portugal FA website, but games can sometimes be changed at very short notice. The club's own website hasn't been updated for three weeks.

"Nine minutes of additional time at the end, during which FC Porto scored the winner, ensured order was maintained" - They don't like it up 'em! As often observed the little clubs get screwed.

Almost always the case here. The established order cannot be messed with. But Famalicão, still top of the league, are doing their best to upset things. But only until next Monday night, when they visit Sporting.

Up for the [Portuguese] Cup …. there are still three Algarve sides in at the imminent Third Round stage.
Due to be played on the weekend of October 20th.

FARENSE v CD Aves [bottom of the Prem Liga].
LOULETANO v Pacos de Ferreira [next to the bottom of the Prem].

and Academica [of Coimbra, 15th of 18 in Segunda Liga]  v PORTIMONENSE.

Could there be chance of a rare Algarvean appearance in the latter stages this year?
