Last night - Estoril 0 - 0 Portimonense attendance 942. Yes, 942 for a top flight match in a 'football mad' country. Makes you laugh, there were more watching Slough v Rochdale last night.

Anyway, that keeps Portimonense in a credible 9th place.

Their next game is on Sunday 10th, at home to Chaves (11th in the League) at the unusual time of 1600hrs / 4pm.

Football mad. As you say Tom, it's a joke. Love the Portuguese but they take glory hunting to a level beyond following Liverpool from Dorset...

Just for information, the UEFA regions cup is a bi-annual tournament for 'amateur' players. All 38 EUFA countries hold a qualifying competition (except the tiny ones who can send one team by nomination) with the winners going through to various final stages. The finals are held in one of the qualifying countries, not chosen until they know who they are. The last edition was held in Turkey, in which the Lisbon FA team took part having won the Portuguese competition.

In England the qualifying competition is called the FA Inter-League cup - information at http://www.thefa.com/competitions/grassroots/fa-inter-league-cup/fixtures

Portugal FA Cup 5th round

This afternoon way down in the Azores :

Praiense 0 - 1 Farense.

Farense are therefore in the last eight and the only third tier side remaining. They will be in the draw with Desportivo Aves, Moreirense and Cova Da Piedade plus Porto, Sporting and Benfica after they have won their games either tonight or tomorrow plus one more winner whose game isn't scheduled until 30th December! That's Caldas da Rainha v Academica Coimbra.

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEK'S GAMES

Liga Nos

Sporting 2 - 0 Portimonense attendance 43797

The appropriately named Hackman got himself sent off on 55 minutes, Portimonense were already one down and soon conceded the second. Video clip highlights at http://ligaportugal.pt/pt/liga/jogo/20172018/liganos/15/9

As a result, Portimonense slip to 11th place in the table.

Their next league game is not until Thursday 4th January, when they host Belenenses with a 20.15hrs kickoff. Before that, their 'reserves' play their final two League Cup second stage group games. These are fun trips to Benfica and Braga this Wednesday and on Friday 29th respectively.

CAMPEONATO PORTUGAL GROUP E (Third tier)

Almancilense    2-2    Armacenenses
Operário Lagoa    3-2    Castrense

Farense showed no ill effects from their long midweek trip to the Azores. They remain top, four points clear of Pinhalnovense. Olhanense move up to fourth. Complete table at http://www.zerozero.pt/edition.php?id_edicao=111609

This league does not play over Christmas and New Year, next matches will be on Sunday 7th January.

Farense await the draw for the FA Cup quarter-finals, scheduled for noon today. Update as and when I know.

ALGARVE LEAGUE DIVISION ONE

This league also dos not play again until after New Year.

FA Cup - no home joy for Farense-

They will face a quarter-final trip to either Caldas da Rainha or Academica Coimbra, whose 5th round match has yet to be played. They will know their opponents after that game on 30th December.

League Cup result from Wednesday night

Benfica 2 - 2 Portimonense att 21355 so if Portimonense win their last group game at Braga and if Vítoria Sétubal draw with Benfica, there is a mathetmatical chance for the Algarve side to make it through to the semi final.

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEK'S GAMES

Liga Nos

As mentioned earlier, Portimonense were held to a disappointing draw at home to Belenenses on Thursday night. Tonight they play up north at Paços de Ferreira.

They will be away again this weekend, at Boavista on Sunday. Their next home game is Saturday 20th January against Braga kickoff 1600hrs / 4pm.

Campeonato Portugal (3rd Tier)

Lusitano VRSA    3-0    Pinhalnovense
Estrela Vendas Novas    1-3    Olhanense
Olímpico Montijo    2-1    Almancilense
Oriental    2-1    Moncarapachense
Castrense    2-2    Moura
Armacenenses    4-2    Louletano
Farense    3-0    Operário Lagoa
Sp. Ideal    1-2    Casa Pia

Welcome points for Lusitano, only their third win of the season and over the second placed team at that. They lift from the bottom having 13 points from 15 games. But only five points separate eighth from bottom, so the struggle to avoid relegation is going to be grim. Those bottom teams include the other Algarve teams except Armacanenses, who are 6th and Olhanense who are 4th.

Farense are now seven points clear at the top.

Next Sunday at 1500hrs / 3pm games in the Algarve only

Armacenenses    vs    Operário Lagoa
Almancilense    vs    Olhanense
Farense    vs    Moura
Lusitano VRSA    vs    Casa Pia

ALGARVE LEAGUE DIVISION ONE

Messinense    2-3    Quarteirense
Silves    4-0    Carvoeiro United
Quarteira    0-0    GD Lagoa
Esp. Lagos     3-1    Faro e Benfica
Culatrense     1-0    Imortal Albufeira
Sambrasense 0-3 Ferreiras

Ferreiras on 41 points top the table, ten points ahead of Silves. Imortal remain in fourth place.

Next Saturday ko times as below

Carvoeiro United    15:00    Quarteira     at Estombar
Quarteirense    15:00    Silves
GD Lagoa    15:00    Ferreiras
Sambrasense    15:00    Faro e Benfica
Culatrense    17:15    Esp. Lagos     at Penha, Faro
Imortal Albufeira    19:30    Messinense

ALGARVE LEAGUE DIVISION TWO

Almancilense B    6-1    Mentes do Desporto
Mexilhoeira Grande FC    2-2    Monchiquense
Esp. Lagos B    2-2    Odiáxere
Santaluziense    2-3    Padernense
4 ao Cubo    1-2    Louletano B
 Inter Almancil    2-0    Unidos Portimão
 Marítimo Olhanense    1-4    Guia
 11 Esperanças    3-1    Olhanense B

11 Esperanças are top, three points ahead of Odiaxere and five ahead of Guia who have risen to third. Padernense are eighth.

Next Saturday, at various times as below

Monchiquense    15:00    Esp. Lagos B
Louletano B    15:00    Inter Almancil    at Salir
Unidos Portimão    15:00    Marítimo Olhanense    at Mexilhoeira Grande

Mentes do Desporto    18:00    Mexilhoeira Grande FC at Parchal
Odiáxere    18:00    11 Esperanças    NB at Bensafrim
Olhanense B    19:00    4 ao Cubo at Olhão Municipal Stadium

then on Wednesday 17th at 1500 (?) but that's what the website says

Unidos Portimão v Louletano B at Mexilhoeira Grande.

WOMEN'S FOOTBALL

Season resumes 21st January

Some of those previously advertised have disappeared from official websites.

The two games in Albufeira for Ajax this Saturday (13th) are confirmed on their website :
