The first lot of holes are almost complete, earlier today they were being backfilled and lids put on like this. They have created access points into the tunnel to make it easier to get at blockages as well as laying new larger pipes.

Further along, towards the pier, some nice new and much bigger holes are being dug.

Fllod damage has long since been fixed. The council received some government money to do some further work on the drains in that part of the town, where the river flows through a tunnel of many years standing. Drainage works definitely. I walked past this morning and men were working down in various holes creating some very large chambers and big new pipes were going in.

I will see if I can get some more pictures in the morning.

More work is planned to help prevent rainwater from cascading down the steep hills into town. Current drains cannot deal with 6" of water falling in as many hours.

Are these works repairing damage from the flood?  Or perhaps improving drainage?

Here we go again. Assorted holes in the square near Bank restaurant and just around the corner by Fastnet bar, pictured on Sunday afternoon. No 'elf an safety issues, I poked my lens through the screens.

Just got back from Albufeira, weather was fantastic !  The main square is dug up as they are supplying the little stalls around the square with electricity so they don't have to use generators. It will probably be finished by the weekend. Albufeira was busy, the bars and restaurants were lively, a lot of Dutch people enjoying the Sunshine and enjoying the nightlife Thumbs Up

P.S if you plan to visit Albuferia in the next few months and like live music (rock bands) go to see Stone Covers Band on Tuesday and Wednesday nights in the Rock Cafe, start about 9:30, Excellent !!

That's what I thought afterwards. The small things look like junction boxes of some sort, they have a panel with a lock on.
