Big dipper arrived as usual, down 1% until settling at 1.08 ... Tesco is down to 1.045 ... but wont be going in that shop ever again due to their antics and lack of action over Covid-19 ... profiteering as well ... guess there wont be an exchange open in Algarve ..

Correct, all change shops are closed here. Are there still people who bring £ here and change them at a lower rate?? Exchange rate is academic anyway except for those of us getting our pensions paid here. But a drop of 5% is not exactly gloom and doom. I am saving more than that by not being able to go down the pub!

Big rally in pound, up to 1.12, has everyone confused ... some blaming `month end` balancing .. we will see again on Monday ... which is usually a drop zone ...

Well ... pound has held up at 1.13 ... looks good at the mo, but not historically. The dollar is at 0.91 euro, roughly what it was 5 years ago (lot of ups and downs between) ... but pound was at 1.40 euro at the same time ...

FairFX have shut up shop for travel cash. You can still load your card or arrange transfers though but finding their rates on the new app and website isn’t easy! A backward step in the usual name/excuse of progress.

I guess this must be a problem for Albufeira residents being paid pensions/dividends in Sterling.

I don't the pound has recovered since it lost about 20% of it's value in the 2016 referendum.

I cannot tell you what the cash rate is here as the change shops are all closed. The rate went down before the referendum, then hovered around 1.15 for a good while but over the last 12 months has been up and down with a big dip last summer and another at the start of the current crisis. Commercial rate is currently around 1.13, highest in the last ten years was July 2015 at 1.45. Those with long memories will recall a time, before any referendums or plagues, when very briefly the exchange rate £ to € dipped below parity. All fairly academic for most, as you won't be leaving UK for your summer holiday in foreign climes for some time yet.

Just looked at the website for the SOL-E-MAR it showed it would take a booking for the 16 of June. But don't bank on it, as the opening has moved several time. As to travelling, the EU is stating that whilst we still have free movement we would have to self Isolate for 2 weeks So who would want to come to sit in a Hotel for that long.

Fears about a `no deal` Brexit re-surfaced last week and the pound fell to 1.1189 euro on Friday .. looks sure to be up and down next six months ... mainly the latter.

Buying euro cash here at mo is not that straightforward. Most of the usual sources, main banks, online shops have suspended this service. Apparently all the airport booths (poor rates traditionally anyway) are also all closed.
Best I could find yesterday, for purchase and home delivery was 1.09 to the pound.

The cash rate here was 1.06 € to £ last week. Fairly academic still, since other than in most bars, on a bus and in taxis cash is shunned anyway. Contactless is the new normal as in UK. The minimum and maximum rates for card transactions were changed some time since.

Does that mean the Euronet machines are not "coining in" profits at the moment? Very sorry to hear that.
