Today 1.06 for £1 in cash. Cancel your holidays. Far too expensive here now.

Especially for the people I saw using one of the Euronet ATM's. Are they in for a surprise!

Euronet offer a lower exchange rate and apparently charge a commission. I read on another well known travel forum of someone using a US $ card to obtain Euros and being billed for what amounted to 10% fees and charges.

They must be making good money to be able to install their machines on what seems like every street corner in town. They are headquarted in Kansas, so yet another example of 'Merca taking all the profits. I cannot get their website to work on my primitive Windows 10 desktop so cannot look for information.

It would interesting to hear from people who have used a £ card in of these devices, to discover what they see on their bank statement when they get home.

Official rate just below 1.17 ... most of the big money changers are on 1.097 (debenhams, tesco, etc) but Ramsdens are at 1.099.

I wonder why the pound is so low. Can there be something going on? All will come right when Boris is voted Court Jester. A safe pair of hands.

Those with long memories will perhaps recall 2009 when the official exchange rate was 1.075 and 'Brexit' a pipe dream. For a brief period around that time, the rate for cash here was below 1 for 1.

The day after the vote to leave, the exchange rate was 1.31 Euros to the £.  That was just over 3 years ago. Slumped rapidly to 1.087 at the end of August 2017. Recovered to 1.175 early May this year but steady decline since as investors lose trust in the UK's pathetic politicians, who cannot agree about anything except how to score brownie points against one another.

Doesn't matter to most people anyway, as travel to the EU will become so tiresome that it will be holidays in Mablethorpe next summer.

USD dollar to the Euro is not doing too bad, having recovered most of the losses sustained over the past two years. Some other currencies are very slowly losing value against the Euro.

Of course that 1 for 1 lasted a few months, not three years...

pound started against the euro 20 years ago at around 1.65 ... not hard to judge where it is likely to be going now ...

Will travel to Europe be a problem after Brexit?  I travelled to Europe and Scandinavia long before we were in the EEC. Borders were no more difficult to cross than now. Not being part of the Schengen group has always set us apart from the rest.  Just means fewer fags for 'erindoors which is a good thing.
Probably insurance cover will go up if/when the EHIC goes.

Gosh, the exchange rate is so unstable. Try following the http://www.instaforex.com/chart/eurusd - https://www.instaforex.com/chart/eurusd - link to see euro vs usd chart - crazy! Still, my advice is to change money in Europe, not in the USA, I've heard the exchange rate is better there.
