Yes they are clearing the cliffs of all vegetation and any loose sandstone. They have exposed in places the bricklayer built stonewall and are deliberately demolishing the concrete tops that look to have been added on later. Managed to have a broken English/bad Portuguese conversation with the boss who said they did the marina wall last year(the town end near the port and Castelo). He said this would be the same.

Some pictures I took at lunchtime 28th October. The old steps are obviously closed, but the lift is available between 0900 and 1700 plus the iron emergency stairway down alongside the lift shaft can also be used.

And a few people enjoying what might be the last day or two of autumn sunshine.

Work on the beach sunday 7 November. Vegetation and loose rock etc have been removed. They are drilling holes to take anchors for netting as there already is elsewhere and perhaps for those sensors to detect movement which are also installed down by the marina entrance where the cliff fell down a few years ago.

Meanwhile a few sunbathers were out yesterday lunchtime in 19º of sun.

Are they trying to do a controlled collapse part of the cliff ? Wondered if the holes were for explosives ? Or am I talking a load of Tosh ?

I think the opposite actually, they have drilled bore holes and inserted metal tensioning cables, they will then backfill with concrete and top them off with end plates on the cliff surface.

The same as was  done at the marina, down on the corner where the road swings round to go towards the fishing harbour. Geo sensors are also being installed to detect any movement.

Yesterday around 4pm

Concrete is now being sprayed onto the cliff face. There's a close up of the rock nails.
