Glad things are improving. Brother Sam is going out 19th Feb for two months. When I told him to take bed socks the reply was........unprintable!! He's Glaswegian (I'm Geordie, yes I know, long story) so we didn't get very high up the alphabetLOL If the weather stays around 60c he'll be happy, fingers crossed!
Consistently inconsistent, Esse sou eu!

Looks like things are improving! 12noon and it is 13C/56F and last night was a lot less cold than over the last 2 weeks or so.

The sun is shining brightly, there is no wind to speak of. Skies are clear, no rain or cloud around and in a change to earlier forecasts it looks like staying dry for a few days.

It's not going away just yet. At 930am Sunday it was 4C/38F. The sun's out and the skies pretty clear, so we should see a high today of around 14C/57F but it will be cold again tonight, down to about 2 or 3C. It is pretty windy so it will feel cooler than mid-50's.

It will stay dry today. By Tuesday things will be warming up a little, but the downside will be some showers as the wind shifts round to the east.

They have been wheeling out aged residents who are saying "... this is the longest spell of such cold weather since I were a lad..." sort of thing.

At 9am it was 3C here in Albufeira. Not quite as cold as yesterday but still pretty cold for here.

The wind is still from the NE, so it will struggle to get into double figures again, today's high 10 or 11C (50 - 52F) today. A little cloudy but should stay dry.

Some light at the end of tunnel for Monday when the wind shifts round more to the east and the night-time temperatures at least will be a few degrees warmer.

Average daytime January temperatures are 15C so we are well below that for the while.

Maybe not - at 715am my thermometer registered 1C/34F which is colder than any time since I have been here. Out towards Sagres in the west it was below freezing last night. Frosty windscreens across the road.

At least it's not snowing.

Today will just about get into double figures - the sun is coming up and the skies are fairly clear. Wind still from the north and bringing that cold air with it. Up in the mountains of NE Portugal it is snowing hard.

The weekend might be a tad warmer during the day, uip to about 12 or 13C/53 - 55F but still really cold at night, down to about 0C in many parts of the Algarve.

Bring your bed socks if you are coming down this way soon.

Not such good weather in the Algarve then? We were lamenting not being able to be there over Xmas and New Year because we were visiting friends in Dubai - 86 and sunny blue skies all the time! Still rather be in Albufeira though....

Today is going to be pretty much the same as yesterday but perhaps with a bit more sunshine. The wind has veered round to the north-east ie from Spain, so it's bringing cold air down from the mountains.

It's 5C/42F again, fairly sunny outside with a few wispy bits of cloud high up. There's no rain around, so it will stay dry. This afternoon it might just about get to 10C/50F.

Friday and Saturday will be similar.

Further north in Portugal it's barely above freezing and really cold at night.

Have a nice day wherever you are.

Good day. It's 5C/42F here in Albufeira. It might just about get to double figures ie 10C/50F as the day goes on. Grey and cloudy with it and the possibility of a shower or two out towards Lagos etc. Wind slight, variable in direction.

Next two days look like being much the same.

A couple of years ago, in February I think it was, there was snow in Lisbon and also up in the hills near here, for the first time in around 50 years. It would be reasonable bet for this next few days.

Up in the north-east temperatures are still way below freezing at night.

Snow in Portugal!! whatever next....

They were predicting the coldest night on record last night and we have a high of 2C today so 10 or 12 would be very nice...

Colder this morning 8C/46F. Cloudy and grey outside with no wind to speak of. There are a few showers knocking around to the west, so while it might rain over Lagos way it ought to stay dry but fairly cool in the central and eastern Algarve.

Today's high will be around 10 - 12C. Forecast much the same for the next 2 - 3 days.

Cold-ish but rather better than SE England to where friends are returning as I write - they are really looking forward to -10C!!

Up in the mountains of NE Portugal it fell to -6C last night and there will be lots of snow for you to see if flying down over the next week or so.

1100am and it is currently around 13C but rather grey and murky outside. It was bright and sunny a couple of hours ago.

The satellite picture shows a whole bank of cloud crossing the Algarve today so I guess things are not going to get any better. There are one or two showers in there but it will be unfortunate if it does rain anywhere in particular.

Make the most of it, as the wind is shifting round to the north and by Wednesday it is forecast to be around 8C at the most!

A better day in prospect at last! The wind has shifted round and is coming down from the north. This means it will be cooler than of late - at 9am it was 14C/52F - and the rains have gone for a couple of days at least.

It looks like being another showery day today. It's a little cloudy and the sun is out but the wind has shifted round to the north-west and over that way is a lump of weather heading in our general direction. Tomorrow should be better and Monday better still.

Current temperature is 14C/57F rising to maybe 16 or 17. By Monday we will see only 12 or 14.
