Today this was reported in The Guardian fingers crossed it's true

EU set to recognise NHS Covid pass
Daniel Boffey Daniel Boffey
The EU is expected to accept the NHS Covid pass as proof of vaccination across the union within days, as the Netherlands warned British tourists that they will otherwise need to take a daily test to visit Dutch bars, restaurants and museums.

Nearly two months after making an application to the European commission, UK officials said they believed Brussels would “shortly” recognise the NHS certificate as equivalent to the EU’s own digital pass.

Sources in Brussels suggested that agreement could be expected by the end of the month, with “significant progress” having been made in recent weeks on the technical tie-up of the systems.

The decision would ensure that all 27 member states and 16 non-EU countries automatically allow entry to visitors from England and Wales carrying the NHS Covid pass, which contains a QR code.

The app would also be recognised by hospitality premises in countries where proof of vaccination is necessary for entry to bars, restaurants and cultural events.

The lack of “equivalence” status has been a thorn in the side of British tourists seeking to visit a range of European destinations and for those people who were vaccinated in the UK but who live abroad.

The problem has become particularly acute as an increasing number of EU governments have introduced a need for a Covid pass to attend events or be admitted to places of hospitality.

As of 25 September, people vaccinated in the UK but visiting or living in the Netherlands, for example, face having to show proof of a negative coronavirus test taken in the previous 24 hours in order to enter a restaurant, bar, museum, cultural event or sports stadium.

In Switzerland, expats spoke of being unable to attend sporting facilities, including gyms, due to the NHS Covid pass being regarded as invalid.

The NHS Covid pass has been accepted unilaterally by 19 EU countries, including France, as proof of vaccination at the border but even in some of these countries recognition was not always automatic for those seeking to go to a bar or restaurant.

This story is being widely circulated. The problem has been that  UK is no longer in the EU so there was no legal basis for the reciprocal acceptance of health certificates.

When I was in France in August they were being very strict about seeing passes and matching ID, even to sit an outside table at a bar or restaurant.  There was a lot of muttering about Hitlerite represssion of civil liberties as you might imagine.

Questions were being asked about what was being done with all the information being scanned and stored by restaurants, bars, museums etc especially when staff's own phones were being used to do the scanning.

To get all economies moving in the right direction all countries need to work together to recognise the vaccinated (with approved vaccines), as this needs to be a global effort and the EU should accept the Uk without all this political palaver !
I hope they move in the right direction and stop the laboratory profiteering !

Politicians of differing shades agree with one another?

Did you read that M. Macron had his health pass and therefore personal information cracked from a picture published in the news? Good to know that even the great and good are lax with personal security.

So, basically, anyone who has scanned the QR code on your pass now has a good amount of your personal details.

Hello all. I've just read that Portugal now recognise those double vaccinated from third countries. Does this now mean that those of us with a vaccine certificate from the NHS travelling from Northern Ireland no longer need a PCR pre departure test??

We are due to fly on the 5th October and have already booked ours but can get a refund if no longer required.

Could those of you in the know out there possibly shed some light on this for me? Thanks.
Heading out again on May 24th and Oct 5th in 2014!!!

Roger just follow the information on Gov.UK website at the moment the requirement for a negative test is still on if you only have the NHS certificate. This can be an antigen test taken no more than 48 before the journey

I don’t believe this is accurate.

Think it’s something to do with no reciprocal agreement between Portugal and the U.K.
I’m sure it will happen soon but at the minute a test is still required to enter Portugal.

Correct as I read it. The reciprocal agreeement to accept each other's certificates for travel is not yet confirmed. If UK sticks to its policy of requiring the expensive PCR test for arrivals in UK I can see a problem. Testing for fitness to travel has not been required for travel within the EU since 1st July.

Meanwhile, keep watching the news.

Travellers to Northern Ireland and England (not sure about Scotland and Wales) from Portugal will no longer need a test before departure from the 4th October.

Will this be the end of all the pop up testing centres around town?

So pleased we are going on the first. Fifty euros down the swanee for no reason. Why is there more chance of carrying Covid onto the plane on Friday than there will be on Monday? Angry

Same as there was more chance of it on a Friday night in a restaurant compared with a crowded Thursday night! Travellers to some countries will still need various tests, but for sure operations will be wound down after the end of the month.

If you booked a test at the tent, you can ask for a refund if it's no longer needed.

There are no changes of entry requirements into Portugal. Next change end of October, if any!

Hi Julie everything remains the same holders of the NHS certificate still have to produce a negative test either PCR or Antigen which is the cheaper option
