Cavern (also Geordie Viking and Sherry's in that corner) are not allowed to open as they don't have the required type of licence. Although Tunes may have a food licence, there was none offered on their boards that I saw. There were I think four tables set outside with two people sitting there and two more people inside. Anyone who knows Tunes will appreciate that it is virtually impossible to adhere to the 'social distancing' rules when going inside. Meanwhile not far away, three old boys were sitting around the same table with their bottles of beer as they have done on a Sunday for years. What rules?

Pete, the landlord, spent the first part of lockdown giving the Cavern a total facelift. All painted and new seat covers fitted. Floor re-done and a steam clean. All ready for reopening.
Tunes used to do food when Michael was there so I guess they still have the food licence.

Yes bob d someone posted on Destination Albufeira facebook page yesterday saying that their travel agency had been in touch with them and said they had gone into liquidation and they should book different accommodation. Sad, but the place went downhill after the father died and left it for family to run, it was a lovely resort in the 90's (even Thomsons pulled out of it and it was one of their main holiday resorts). I heard a few months ago that MGM were interested in buying it,whether that was hearsay I do not know, but obviously if true, they Vilanova wanted too much for it. Now it will be going for a song on liquidation and will probably have many interested buyers.

More on the “party outbreak” from Algarve Daily News...
Illegal Lagos party: COVID-19 infections associated with gathering reaches 76, creating new focal point of virus – public prosecutor called in The authorities have so far registered at 76 positive cases of COVID -19 related to an illegal party held at the local sports club in the village of Odiáxere, in the municipality of Lagos, on the 7th of June. The cases were identified throughout several locations in the Algarve. According to the same publication, the Director-General of Health stated that small “sanitary defences” are being outlined for the infected families' households. The objective "is to contain these people who have fallen ill, who have families and close contacts" and, therefore, there must be "containment rings" for them. If not, "they will give rise to transmission chains outside these environments". Lagos Municipal Council, local security forces, and health authorities are regarding the event as an active contagion focal point, the municipality said earlier this week. "The origin of this outbreak, which called into question the good performance achieved so far in terms of the numbers of the pandemic, is being attributed to the organization of an illegal event, which took place a few days ago, which brought together a large number of people" in an enclosed space, says the municipality on its website. Among the confirmed cases are people "of different nationalities" and residents "from several municipalities of the region, mostly Lagos and Portimão and also some visitors" from elsewhere in the country. |

I hope they have to pay the bill for all this, knowing that what they did was illegal.

Hi folks, it's been a while.
My son was to be married in albufeira 3 weeks from today but all postponed until next year. 200 guests were coming therefore there has been frantic cancellations, postponement etc. Few of us are still booked on flights but unsure if it would be worth coming as most of our favourite bars are not open. Just wondering what restrictions ste in place for those bars/restaurants that are open? Is it true everything shuts at 11pm? Cheers in advance. Cass |

I, for one, will not miss the loud announcements and blaring music from the vehicle driving around Albufeira giving details of the events at the bullring.

Cass - "Just wondering what restrictions are in place for those bars/restaurants that are open? Is it true everything shuts at 11pm?" Yes at the moment everything must close by 11pm. Restaurants have limits on numbers with tables spaced further apart. Groups should make reservations - and honour them by actually turning up! A few places are not open and may not be. The situation is due for review later this week, but seems increasingly likely that nothing much will change. Night clubs, music bars, bars like the Cavern, Geordie Viking, Sherry's etc are all closed. Masks must be worn everywhere with four walls and a roof, also in taxis, buses etc.

My favourite venue. The last cultural icon in the Algarve. I will miss it sorely. And the fresh steaks (yum).
