Since when did people in the meeja start their sentences with "so"? And why? I've also noticed in the Mrs Brown sitcom that they often finish a sentence with "so". Why do Americans lose the "h" in herbs? Is this a Cockney influence? Maybe I'm spending too much time with my own thoughts but these are collectively getting on my 'ampton.

Being from cose to 'ampton Wick,I can understand your problem, just as I hate people in the media saying it's 'For Free',no it's not,it is either free,or ,for nothing.I could go on for hours

There are so many annoying phrases. The latest one being that we must 'reach out'
.. what's wrong with just saying keep in touch or to connect? No .. we have to reach out! 😑 I had to laugh, I saw a comment the other day saying you should only reach out if you are in the Four Tops. 😃 |

hahaha.I was thinking the same also. Suppose its all related to boredom connected with this horrible virus situation and being in lockdown in whatever country. Personally can't understand the thread, hence why I have not posted on it, apart from commenting your question. Stay safe everyone.

God blimey! What if it isn't Albufeira related? 😮
The thread title is 'user's chit chat - Topic area unrelated to Albufeira' At least someone is chatting here! The forum has very little activity and yes, people are bored. 😐 Thanks Jock for making an effort to strike up a chat. (.. reaching out !)

agree with Linda, although perhaps not related to Albufeira it is better to talk about something.i come on every day to see who is posting and at the moment not too much going on.toms photos are a great way to see what is going on so thank you for that.we all have a great love for Albufeira and i am sure we would rather be there talking about it over a drink than falling out about a thread on the forum.no one is coming out just now so people are not posting looking for information so for the moment lets just dream about being out there enjoying good old Portuguese hospitality.till that time keep safe keep talking.

In answer to your original question, Jock - at least four or five years I would say. Not just the media - watch any game show where they ask the contestants about themselves - about half of them start every sentence with "So". And I agree - it is blooming irritating.
I don't think that the American's mispronouncing herbs has anything to do with London. No more than them not being able to pronounce oregano or schedule...

Sorry admin. I assumed this was a general chit chat area. But I see it falls under the general heading of Tourism which this isn't. Mea culpa! I'll keep on topic in future. Thanks Ally. Your last sentence has dragged the topic back into Tourism.

Absolutely no harm done. All users are welcome to post and talk about miscellaneous topics here.
We'd just like it to remain related to Albufeira in some degree so it can be of some interest for other people reading the forum and looking for useful information about the region like on so many other topics on this forum. Thank you all for your participation.

So (😁😁),I would have the exact same thoughts about this forum as Drift 89. I pop in to the forum every day to keep up to date with Albufeira. At this time of year there would usually be many questions about the area, perhaps about restaurants or transport etc.which would then spark new topics. Due to this pandemic, there are no new visitors looking for advice, so forum very quiet. I really miss the usual chats on the forum and reading the answers. As already said, thank you so much to Cubsur and others who are on the ground out there for keeping us updated with pictures and chat about local issues. I was due to visit Forte do Sao Joao next weekend. Sadly that is not happening, but in the meantime, I will keep up to date here and look forward to safely returning to my favourite getaway.😎

Good post Bebop. I also miss the place. We sometimes visit as much as four times a year. Also many thanks to Cubsur for his reports from ground zero.
I did a photo quiz a few years ago, I will try and repost, if its OK with admin, we all know what they are like

I remember your quiz from a few years back, it was very entertaining. I, for one would appreciate repeat/similar. It would knock off the cobwebs that have built up during this lockdown and get our thinking caps on.
