Just looking at hire costs for July and August and have to say, Wow! Expensive or what?
I don’t think the providers have yet reassessed what the market is going to be, and that is greatly reduced.
So when are the rules of supply and demand going to kick in and we see that reflected in the rates?
There are going to be 100’s if not 1000’s of parked up hire cars in the locale of Faro, and no doubt other, airports this summer.
First time I think I’ve found this but at current quoted rates, transfers are a much better financial option.

Maybe they are thinking that they will rent so few cars that the unavoidable operational costs must be recovered through increased prices. Same possibly goes for other tourist businesses.

But maybe reality will dawn and they appreciate that some money is better that no money.

Do we foresee a price war in the tourist sector?

Greek hotel prices are something like 30% of Algarve this summer, until October. And travellers would be unlikely to encounter northern Portuguese, possibly 1 in 200 infected. Recent cases give Algarve a 1 in 7000 chance of infection .. and it looks like the government are about to make a big hole in that. Message .. stay indoors, alone, indefinitely ..

Could become a race to the bottom which in the short term will seem great. In the long term we'll lose many of the hotels, bars and restaurants we have come to love.
It is no coincidence that in no known language does the phrase 'As pretty as an Airport' appear. Douglas Adams

We used Green Motion Car Hire  in the UK  end of last year and got defrauded by their damage charge when returned so be careful & check Trip advisor reviews ( Not Trust Pilot ) . This is how they will make up the shortfall if you are not very careful
