The fuel tanker driver's strike planned for Monday is already taking hold.
Large queues at several fuel stations yesterday spilling onto road so even those with fuel were being delayed. As I needed petrol for my lawnmower I headed out early this morning to get a gallon (5 litres). Repsol at Montechoro had no queues  as they had run out!!!. Onto 125 at Ferreiras big queues on both sides.
Grass cutting has been abandoned  but its drizzling here anyway now. Argghhhhh.

Yes, it normally takes me 35 minutes to get to the airport, last night over an hour because of the queueing for fuel, they are causing local gridlocks including the island at the airport, gridlocked down the dual carriageway, took 20 minutes to get through and get to airport car parks.
The police should be there moving cars on making it clear you can’t queue on an island or carriageway when you are effectively blocking access to an International airport.
The worst news apparently is the strike officially starts Monday and is planned to go through to September.

Just checked  - only 9 fuel stations across the whole Algarve will have Army support yet Beja alone has three!!!.
Sounds like the Algarve has been ignored again - with the influx of tourists it is going to be absolute chaos unless the can reach agreement

If the strike lasts until September there will be more to worry about than being unable to put fuel in your car.

The state of emergency comes into effect at midnight tonight and is currently to run until 21st August. Petrol and diesel for cars will effectively be rationed to 15 or 25 litres a day depending on whcih station.

Don't worry, the government will cave in, to avoid the threat of civil unrest.

Yes you are right but 22 across the Algarve is still totally inadequate, There is only ONE in Albufeira despite all the vistors.  ( I know there is another in Ferreias but that is hardly in Albufeira)

It’s diesel they are selling out of, petrol is available.

Station in Vale Parra, had a delivery this morning, now has all fuels and no queues, so I thought it had all blown over, until I saw the madness at the station by the Two Worlds roundabout! What is going on!

Everyone is panic buying Andrew. Photos on facebook of van drivers with big containers in the backs of their vans filling up, (mainly diesel) I couldn't believe the  traffic gridlock it caused on the dual carriageway in Albufeira especially at the fuel station approaching the Watches roundabout. Lets just hope the strike doesn't last long and they can agree something, otherwise it will be total mayhem.

I know Poll, but my observation was some stations panic buying is happening and chaos ensues, others, like the one in Vale Parra are operating as normal, all fuel derivatives in stock, no panic, no queues, business as usual. Why the difference?
Taxi driver last night said he believed it was all over now anyway and resolved but, so there was a proviso, it would be Monday before we knew this for certain. He also said we should be more worried about the supermarkets, their delivery drivers start strike tomorrow and that was still happening. Have to qualify, this is from taxi driver, I haven’t seen it reported.

Anybody got any updates? Our nearest station has run out of diesel, I think that’s because the traders and the taxi’s have piled in, but it has petrol, no queues, no panic. Anybody add anything or report similar or different?

Ive just seen reports of queues at filling stations across the Spanish  border towards Huelva  etc. Fuel is cheaper in Spain so clearly many people have thought it worthwhile to make the trip to avoid delays here. How long before they run out and have to wait to be replenished?
