A truck rolled up this morning and operatives are busy threading bright orange fibre optic cable through the ducts under the street. Could modernity and internet speeds faster than a snail be coming?

I hope it works well for you. I'm on Virgin fibre and Iget download speeds of 112Mbs which I think is their minimum. Remember the dial-up modem buzzing away? I still have one in a cupboard somewhere.

Yes, when I first went on line I had a modem that whistled and hummed and maybe 50kbps. Then ADSL came along, I was lucky to have one of the green boxes right outside my place in UK. The strength of the signal nearly fried my new kit. Laying cable is one thing. Joining up the dots and making it go is another. People down in the town who already have fibre are getting speeds of 100Mps and more. I live in hope.
