Thanks Luis , it’s a shame that the NHS vaccine is still not recognised , testing is such a turn off !

I fully agree Julie, hopefully won't be long now till it gets accepted. I sent proof of my vaccination carried out in the UK to my health centre in Portugal so i can request my EU covid certificate

We returned on Tuesday from Stansted with Ryanair, although we paid £35 for the Randox antigen test at the airport (we are UK double vaccinated not EU). on the day it was not required.
The first hurdle you need to pass is the airline's inspection as they should not board anyone not meeting the PT Entry requirements. Ryanair were looking for proof of a test or a double vaccinated QR pass code and our UK Digital pass was sufficient.
Then at immigration in Faro a rather grumpy female SEF officer couldn't seem to care less as we presented prints of our Residency certificate, UK Digital pass and PLF, shooing us away with hardly a glance. We certainly did not present our negative test results as these were only on our phone. This seemed to be the same for the people in front of us at the immigration as we saw them showing only UK digital passes in paper format.
Whether you could comfortably use this as a precedent to not bother with tests is another matter as the SEF website still states a negative test is required unless you have an EU Digital pass or one from the 16 third countries listed that have reciprocal agreements. On the EU Digital pass website there is an interesting loophole where it says that non double vaccinated EU Citizens or EU residents arriving at EU airports without a negative test result will still be allowed entry but will need to remain at the airport to take a Covid test at their own cost and if negative will then be allowed to leave as normal. So again not a certain safety net but maybe if you arrived with a UK digital pass but without a negative test result they would adopt this procedure for you.
The one certain thing is it is all as clear as mud!

SEF know you have come from the UK so know that you won't have got onto the plane without having cleared all the hurdles prior to boarding. I was only asked for passport and my EU certificate (I was done here) and the rest was barely looked at.

The bit about non vaccinated people is a bit pointless since the airlines from UK will not let you board without all the correct paperwork including mandatory presentation of a negative test if you don't have the EU certificate - at present anyway.

And who would take the chance of spending £££ on flights and holidays and risk being denied entry to Portugal after arrival? Then having to spend ten days effectively in jail - and paying for the privilege.

S1gh,  this only applies   if your fully vaccinated and can prove you have your NHS  vac cert, otherwise a test PCR or Anitigen is still needed to arrive in Portugal

Intersting when we left Portugal last week, the SEF guy who looked at our passports said to Karen "Have you got your residency with you", when she showed him her fawn card he said something about the new post Brexit card and she had to explain to him that they (SEF) had not actually issued any of them yet...

I spoke with a newly elected councillor last week about the new residencia. He said that there is no news about when SEF will get around to renewing those now needed by UK passport holders. Mine runs out next March.

Hi , we have booked a for a four week Holiday in March 2022.  How is it with you in Albufeira covid wise, its impossible to tell anything from here in UK. This is our first visit to Portugal, and first since returning reluctantly to UK (urg Brexsh*te) from 23 years living in France, and traveling freely in EU.  Not use to coming in from the 3rd world lands here in UK . Any imfo would be great, ciao

The situation as it is now may be very different in March. Follow those two local news media and also check official rules and regulations at https://www.visitportugal.com/en/content/covid-19-measures-implemented-portugal

that site covers regulations for entry to Portugal plus what health related laws you must obey while here. There reviews and changes every two weeks, so we have no idea what's coming!

On arrival your passports will be stamped of course. Then there are customs regulations to be aware of in both directions. Portuguese law also requires all tourists staying in hotels and private rentals (not just those from UK) to be registered with the authorities. You may therefore be asked to fill in a form on arrival at your accommodation.

If you still have French ID cards you may able to use them in lieu of UK passports in some circumstances, but you will need your passports to be able to leave the UK anyway as your flights have no doubt been booked with them as reference.
