Last night - Farense 0 - 0 Casa Pia att 5527. At least the Farense fans are keeping the faith but yet more dropped points means they are now in big trouble.

The bottom of the league looks like this with six games to go :

14th - Gil Vicente 26 points
15th - Estrela Amadora 26 points
16th - AFS 23 points
17th - Farense 18 points
18th - Boavista 18 points

The team finishing 16th has a playoff to stay up against the team finishing third in the Second Division. 17th and 18th are relegated.

Farense's next three games are proverbial six-pointers for all concerned. Next Sunday they travel to Estrela Amadora, then on Good Friday 18th they will be at home to Boavista, ko 1530hrs.  On Saturday 26th they go up to Barcelos to play Gil Vicente.

Quiz question : who were the last team other than Porto, Benfica or Sporting to win the Portuguese League? Clue - one of them is mentioned above.

Also, a former Southampton stalwart played for Casa Pia yesterday. One José Fonte at the age of 41. Saints could have done with him in defence this season!

Quiz answer, Boavista, Tom.
Google was my friend, they triumphed in 2000/2001. Talking about a three-horse race over there, the previous intruders were Belenenses way back in 1945/6.

Hi, Coming on Sunday for 5 days and wondering if there are any games during this time at the Albufeira Stadium?  Been a few years since we were there but the last game we saw was Benfica B 5 Leyton Orient 4 - quite a match that.

'fraid not. The semi professional leagues don't normally play midweek and don't play over Easter. The only games in the area after tomorrow will be the Algarve Cup Final on Thursday night at the Algarve Stadium, also on Friday afternoon. a First Division match in Faro and a Second Division League match in Portimão.

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEK'S GAMES

Liga Betclic

Estrela Amadora 0 - 1 Farense att 4103. After 13 games without a win, a welcome three points but probably too late to avoid a relegation playoff. The bottom of the table looks like this, with five games remaining.

14th Gil Vicente 26pts GD -16
15th Estrela Amadora 26pts GD -20
16th AFS 23pts GD -26
17th Farense 21pts  GD -20
18th Boavista 18pts GD -28

Remember that the bottom two are automatically relegated and that the team finishing 16th has a playoff against the team finishing third in the Liga Meu Super (2nd Division).

Next game for Farense is on Friday afternoon (Good Friday) when they host bottom side Boavista, ko 1530hrs. Estrela Amadora And AFS will both be away to teams much higher up the table. Gil Vicente go to mid-table Nacional. So, if ever three more points would be useful, it will be on Friday!

Liga Meu Super

Chaves 2 - 0 Portimonense att. 1362. That's now five successive defeats for Portimonense, who are now only one point above relegation danger. The bottom of that table reads :

14th Portimonense 30pts GD -13
15th Paços de Ferreira 30pts GD -12
16th FC Porto B 29pts GD -10
17th Oliveirense 25pts GD -26
18th Mafra 22pts GD -20

As with the top division, the bottom two are automatically relegated, to Liga 3, with the team finishing 16th going to a playoff with the team finishing third in that league.

Next game for Portimonense will be at home to Paços de Ferreira also on Good Friday, ko 1400hrs. Three points would be very useful. I wonder if more will go than the paltry few hundred at recent games. FC Porto B face Chaves (4th) on the Saturday.

Campeonato de Portugal Group D first phase final matches
Results for Algarve teams

Barreirense 1 - 2 Moncarpachense
Serpa 4 - 2 Lagoa
GD Fabril 2 - 1 Louletano.

Moncarpachense finished 4th, Louletano 5th and Lagoa 8th. That's season over for them, with only the top two going into the second phase and the bottom five being relegated. None of those five will be coming down into the Algarve League.

Moncarapachense do have the Algarve Cup Final on Thursday night to look forward to.

Algarve League Division One Second Phase
Championship Group fourth round of matches

Imortal Albufeira 1 - 2 Portimonense B
Silves 1 - 2 Ferreiras
Quarteirense 1 - 1 FC Os 11 Esperanças

Portimonense B are top, with 56 points. Then come Ferreiras on 56 and Imortal on 54.

There will be no games over the Easter weekend. The league resumes on Saturday 26th April. Ferreiras v Imortal will be the big match, while Portimonense B will be at home to Quarteirense. Both games will be at 1600hrs.

Relegation Group Fourth Round of Matches

Moncarapachense B 3 - 2 Lagos
Culatrense 1 - 1 Odiáxere
Lusitano VRSA 2 - 2 Olhanense

Lusitano are well adrift at the bottom, with 14 points. Above them are Culatrense with 19 and Olhanense with 25. The bottom two won't automatically be relegated. All depends on a balancing act between the two divisions in terms of numbers.

No games over Easter. Next round on 26th April.

Algarve League Second Division Second Phase
Promotion Group
Sixth round of matches

Louletano B 1 - 2 FC Os Armacancenses
Quarteira SC 1 - 1 Guia
Messinense 2 - 0 Lagoa B

Os Armacanenses go top, they have 12 points with Louletano B second with 10 points.

Again, no games over Easter. next matches will be on Saturday evening, 26th April.

Silver Group
Sixth round of matches

Campinense 2 - 0 Bensafrim
Mentes Desporto 2 - 1 Paderne
Carvoeiro United 2 - 5 Sambrasense

Sambrasense are top on 15 points, a long way ahead of the others who all seem to be beating each other.  Next matches also on April 26th.

Bronze Group

Sport Faro Benfica 3 - 3 Alvor
Silves B 1 - 4 Marítimo Olhanense

Alvor are  top with 1 points from five games, second are Sport Faro Benfica with 10 points from four games.

There is a game tomorrow night, diehards only! Marítimo Olhanense v FC 4 ao Cubo, the Olhão local derby, ko 21.15 hrs (!) at the Olhão Municipal Stadium.

ALGARVE CUP FINAL SPONSORED BY EVA TRANSPORTES

Moncarapachense v Silves Thursday 17th April ko 2030hrs at the Algarve Stadium. Entry is free.

WOMEN'S FOOTBALL

National League Division Two Second Phase
Relegation Group

Pasteis Bola 2 - 2 Guia

With two games remaining, Guia are safely in second place. Their next game will be on Saturday 26th April at home to FC Romariz, ko 1500hrs.

Taça Feminina Promoção Second Phase

These are now knockout games.

Estrela Amadora 0 - 6 Ferreiras

There won't be any games over Easter. I will update with the second round draw for Ferreiras as soon as known.

To add to that (and thanks) with the lower leagues not playing over Easter just two games to report on.

Liga Betclic

Farense 0 - 1 Boavista att 6171, almost a full house. Defeat sends Farense to the bottom of the table and in big trouble with four games to go. They are five points off automatic relegation and seven points from avoiding a playoff. Their next game is away to Gil Vicente on Saturday.

Liga Meu Super

Portimonense 2 - 0 Paços de Ferreira att 992.

A vital win which takes Portimonense back up to 13th place (of 18 teams) and four points above the playoff. Also four games to go. Their next game will be at home to leaders Tondela on Sunday afternoon. They are far from safe if they lose that one!

I will post next weekend's fixtures on Tuesday. The lower leagues resume after their Easter holidays.

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEKEND'S GAMES

Delayed by a combination of a national disaster and my involvement in a Walking Football tournament.

Liga Betclic

Gil Vicente 1 -0 Farense att. 5611

Farense are now in big trouble at the bottom of the league. With three games remaining, they are eight points from safety. Even if they win two of the three, the best they can hope for is the playoff against the team that finishes third in Liga 2 (Liga Meu Super).

Their next game is on Saturday at home to Famalicão, KO 1530hrs. Famalição are seventh.

Liga Meu Super

Portimonense 2 - 2 Tondela att. 1059. We wuz robbed thy might say, with the league leaders equalising six minutes into added time at the end of the game. Portimonense are 14th, having 34 points and are four points clear of relegation playoffs or worse. Their next game will be away to Académico Viseu, way up north. Viseu are three places above Portimonense. That game is on Saturday morning.

Algarve League First Division Second Phase
Championship Group

Ferreiras 0 - 2 Imortal Albufeira
Portimonense B 0 - 2 Quarteirense
FC Os 11 Esperanças 1 - 2 Silves

Halfway through this second phase, Imortal return to the top of the table on 57 points. Portimonense B are second with 56 points and Ferreiras third on 55pts. Quarteirense are fourth with 51 points and cannot be discounted.

Next Saturday all at 1600hrs

Ferreiras v Portimonense B
FC Os 1 Esperanças v Imortal
Silves v Quarteirense

Relegation Group

Lagos 3 - 0 Culatrense
Odiáxere 6 - 3 Lusitano VRSA
Olhanense 2 - 3 Moncarapchense B

The important bottom end has Lusitano VRSA last and certain to be relegated. If two go down, Cultrense will be favourites to join them.

Next Saturday all at 1600hrs / 4pm

Odiáxere v Olhanense
Lagos v Lusitano VRSA
Cultrense v Moncarapachense B

Algarve League Second Division Second Phase

Promotion Group

Guia 0 - 1 Messinense
FC Os Armacanenses 4 - 0 Quarteira SC
Lagoa B 1 - 2 Louletano B

Seven games into this ten game series and FC Os Armcanenses top the table with 15 points, second come Louletano B with 13.

Next Saturday all at 1900hrs

Quarteira SC v Louletano B
Guia v Lagoa B
Messinense v  FC s Armacanenses

Silver Group

Bensafrim 0 - 2 Mentes Desporto
Campinense 3 - 2 Sambrasense
Paderne v Carvoeiro United being payed tonight, 30th April. KO2030hrs

Also seven games played, Sambrasense lead with 15 points, followed by Mentes Desporto and Campinense both on 11.

Next Saturday all at 1900hrs

Mentes Desporto v Campinense (at the Bela Vista stadium in Prchal)
Carvoeiro United v Bensafrim
Paderne v Sambrasense

Bronze group

Marítimo Olhanense 1 - 1 FC4 ao Cubo
Odiáxere B 2 - 0 Silves B

Fairly chaotic fixture list in this group which was reduced to six teams following the expulsion of ACD Algarvense. They didn't re-arrange the matches, so at the moment Sport Faro e Benfica are top, 13 points from five games, Alvor are second with 11 but neither played last weekend!

Next Saturday at 1900hrs

Sport Faro e Benfica v Maítimo Olhanense
FC 4 ao Cubo v Odiáxere B

WOMEN'S FOOTBALL
National League Second Division Second Phase
Relegation Group

Guia 0 - 1 FC Romariz

Guia are safe, still second in the table, but a bit of a surprise result none the less.  Guia play their final game on 10th May away at Cadima.

Taça Nacional Femina Promoção

Second phase, now in the knockout stages

Vasco da Gama 1 - 4 Ferreiras

That takes Ferreiras into the semi-finals.  I cannot see the fixtures anywhere.

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEKEND'S GAMES

Liga Betclic

Farense 2 - 1 Famalicão att 4171.  A winner for Farense in added time at the end, followed by a fracas and three sendings off. The whole game had been very tetchy, with 41 free kicks and ten yellow cards.

Farense are off the bottom at least, but still in serious danger of relegation.

The bottom of the table looks like this.

15th Estrela Amadora played 31 pts 29
16th AFS played 31 pts 24
17th Farense played 32 pts 24
18th Boavista played 31 pts 21

Boavista have by far the worst goal difference. Tonight they visit AFS, with both teams badly needing a win. Estrela Amadora go to mid table Rio Ave.

I will update things in the morning.

After that, the remaining games will be next weekend :

Estrela Amadora v AFS, Vítoria Guimarães v Farense and Boavista v Porto.

Then the weekend after it's the final matches :

Estoril v Estrela Amadora, Farense v Santa Clara, Arouca v Boavista and AFS v Moreirense. Remember that the teams finishing 17th and 18th are automatically relegated. The team finishing 16th faces a playoff against the team finishing 3rd in Liga 2, which is likely to be either Alverca or Vizela.

Liga Meu Super

Académico Viseu 2 -1 Portimonense att 521. Portimonense are in 14th place, on 34 points with two games remaining. Although they could, mathematically, still be relegated it's very unlikely as they are six points clear of the dotted line.

A win in next weekend's home game against Porto B would make it 100% safe. Date and time have yet to be announced. At this stage of the season, spectators and teams have to wait as the league will instruct that certain crucial games will be played at the same time.

Algarve League First Division Second Phase
Championship group

FC Os 11 Esperanças 2 - 0 Imortal Albufeira
Ferreiras 0 - 2 Portimonense B
Silves 2 - 3 Quarteirense

Four games remain. Portimonense B go back to the top. They have 59 points, then come Imortal second with 57, Ferreiras third on 55 and Quarteirense have 54.

Next Saturday's games are listed as being at different times. I suggest checking again on Friday in case of any changes.

Portimonense B v FC Os 11 Esperanças at 1700hrs
Quarteirense v Ferreiras at 1500hrs
Silves v Imortal Albufeira at 1500hrs changed on Wednesday

Relegation group

Culatrense 2 - 2 Moncarpachense B
Odiáxere 2 - 2 Olhanense
Lagos 1 - 0 Lusitano VRSA

Next Saturday, all at 1700hrs.

Moncarpachense B v Odiáxere
Olhanense v Lagos
Lusitano VRSA v Culatrense

Also four games to go. Lusitano VRSA are almost certain to go down, they  are six points behind Culatrense and nine behind Olhanense.

Algarve League Second Division Second Phase
Promotion Group

Quarteira SC 0- 3 Louletano B
Messinense 0 - 1 FCOs Armacanenses
Guia 4 - 1 Lagoa B

Two games remain. The promotion places will almost certainly be taken by FC Os Armacanenses and Louletano B. One point for either next Saturday would make that certain.

Next Saturday's matches, all at 1900hrs.

Louletano B v Messinense
FC Os Armacanenses v Guia
Quarteira SC v Lagoa B

Silver Group

Mentes Desporto 3 - 0 Campinense
Carvoeiro United 3 - 1 Bensafrim
Paderne 1 -1 Sambrasense

Sambrasense lead with 16 points, ahead of Mentes Desporto on 14 and Carvoeiro United on 13.

Next Saturday at various times. I recommend checking on Friday as the official Algarve FA website has two different sets of times!

Bensafrim v Paderne ko 1600hrs
Campinense v Carvoeiro United ko 1700hrs
Mentes Desporto v Sambrasense ko 1900hrs

Bronze group

The two games that were supposed to be played last Saturday were  incorrectly listed on the official website. Both had been shifted to an earlier date! This is always a big problem here. Fixtures and results are always listed strictly according to the 'Jornada' or round of matches. When matches are played earlier or later, it's often very hard to find them,!

For what it's worth, FC Faro e Benfica won the group.

The final game was scheduled for Saturday at 1900hrs, is shown on the official website as having been played last night, 8th May, with a kickoff of 2200hrs!! Result, if indeed it was played, not to be seen.

FC 4 ao Cubo v Odiáxere B

WOMEN'S FOOTBALL
National League Second Division Second Phase Relegation group

No games last weekend. The season ends next Saturday. Our local team Guia will travel to Cadima. Guia will finish second of third. They will play in the Second Division next season.

Taça Feminina Promoção - knockout stage

No games also last weekend. Ferreiras have reached the last eight but do not play again until Saturday 17th May.

Last nights' results in the Liga Betclic have left the bottom three teams all on 24 points with two games to play. Boavista got a late winner to win 2-1 at AFS. Estrela Amadora, in 15th place, lost at Rio Ave and have 29 points.

Next weekend both Farense and Boavista have near impossible tasks, away at Vìtoria Guimarães and Porto respectively. Anything less than a win would leave them in the relegation zone. AFS go to Estela Amadora. A win for Estrela would make them safe.

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEKEND'S GAMES

Liga Betclic

Vítoria Guimarães 1 - 2 Farense att. 20,226

A vital win for Farense that gives them a slim chance of avoiding the relegation perils, although the final outcome will depend on other results. The winner came two minutes into time added at the end of the game, but there were still eight more minutes in which to hang on.

With one game remaining, the bottom of the table looks like this :

Estrela Amadora 29 points
AFS 27 points
Farense 27 points
Boavista 24 points

Final day fixtures for the bottom four, all at 1800hrs on Saturday because of the elections on Sunday :

Farense v  Santa Clara (6th)
Arouca (12th) v Boavista
AFS v Moreirense (11th)
Estoril (9th) v Estrela Amadora

At the top of the table, Sporting and Benfica both have 79 points, with Sporting ahead by virtue of the head to head record between the two.

Their final games see Benfica travel to fourth placed Braga, while Sporting will be at home to Vítoria Guimarães, 5th.

The phones will be hot for sure!

Liga Meu Super

Portimonense 0- 3 FC Porto B att. 1206

Fortunately the other results went the right way, Portimonense are safe from relegation.

Their final game will be on Friday night up in Alverca, who are currently second and one point behind leaders Tondela. Other games involving the top three are being played at the same time.

ALGARVE LEAGUE DIVISION ONE Second phase
Championship group

Portimonense B 2 -0 FC 11 Esperanças
Quarteirense 0 - 0 Ferreiras
Silves 0- 3 Imortal Albufeira

Three games remain. Portimonense B lead with 62 points, Imortal are second with 60, Ferreiras third on 56 and Quarteirense fourth on 55.

Next Saturday's games were shown as 1700hrs (5pm) kick offs, but Imortal's game was been brought forward on Tuesday.

FC 11 Esperanças v Ferreiras
Imortal Albufeira v Quarteirense CHANGED TO 1500hrs / 3pm KICKOFF
Silves v Portimonense B

Relegation Group

Moncarapachense B 0 - 1 Odiáxere
Olhanense 4 - 1 Lagos
Lusitano VRSA 2 - 1 Culatrense

Also three games to go and it is Lusitano VRSA and Culatrense who occupy the bottom two places, with Culatrense having only the slimmest mathematical chance of not finishing in the bottom two. Lusitano will finish either 5th or 6th and thus be relegated.

Next Saturday and again do check in case of late changes

Lagos v Odiáxere ko 1500hrs / 3pm
Culatrense v Olhanense ko 1500hrs / 3pm CHANGED
Lusitano VRSA v Moncarapachense B ko 1700hrs / 5pm

ALGARVE LEAGUE SECOND DIVISION Second Phase
Promotion Group

Louletano B 3 - 1 Messinense
FCOs Armacanenses 4 - 2 Guia
Quarteira SC 4 - 1 Lagoa B

One more game remains and OS Armacanenses are two points ahead of Louletano B at the top. Those two will finish first and second come what may and will be promoted. The rest also ran.

Next Saturday's matches all at 1900hrs ( 7pm)

Guia v Louletano B
Lagoa B v FC Os Armacanenses
Messinense v Quarteira SC

Silver group

Mentes Desporto 1 - 3 Sambrasense
Bensafrim 3 -0 Paderne
Campinense 1 - 4 Carvoeiro United

For what it matters, Sambrasense are three points ahead of Carvoeiro United at the top.

The final round of matches next Saturday, also at 1900hrs / 7pm except one

Sambrasense v Bensafrim ko 1600hrs / 4pm
Carvoeiro United v Mentes Desporto
Paderne v Campinense

WOMEN'S FOOTBALL

National League Second Division Second Phase

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEKEND'S GAMES

Liga Betclic

Farense 1 - 2 Santa Clara att 5954

Defeat for Farense in their final league game of the season resulted in them being relegated. They had to win and hope that AFS did not. Both finished on 27 points, but the head to head record between the two was in favour of AFS. Also relegated were Boavista, who are one of only two teams other than Benfica, Sporting or Porto to have won the Portuguese league. That was in season 2000 - 2001. The other was Belenenses in 1945 -6.

Sporting claimed the league title for the second successive season.

Liga Meu Super

Alverca 2 - 1 Portimonense att. 2521

Portimonense were already safe from relegation. They finished 15th of 18 teams, one point ahead of Paços de Ferreira.

ALGARVE LEAGUE DIVISION ONE Second Phase

Championship group

FC Os 11 Esperanças 2 - 1 Ferreiras
Imortal Albufeira 2 - 2 Quarteirense
Silves 1 - 2 Portimonense B

Those results leave Portimonense B four points clear of Imortal with two games remaining. The other four teams are now out of the running, although Ferreiras and Quarteirense are line for the second FA cup spot as they are equal on points.

Next Saturday's game are currently shown as all being at 1700hrs / 5pm but do check as changes can be made at very short notice.

FC Os 11 Esperanças v Quarteirense
Ferreiras v Silves
Portimonense B v Imortal Albufeira

Relegation Group

Lagos 2 - 0 Odiáxere
Cultatrense 0 - 1 Olhanense
Lusitano VRSA 4 - 1 Moncarpachense B

At the end where it matters, Culatrense and Lusitano VRSA will be the bottom two and likely be relegated.
