Things get under way next weekend in the top leagues. Those games involving the Algarve teams are : Liga Betclic (1st Division) - Farense v Moreirense Sunday 11th August ko 1800hrs Liga Meu Super (2nd Division) - Portimonense play way up north on Monday evening The Algarve has no teams in Liga 3. The Campeonato de Portugal (4th Division) gets under way on 18th August. The Algarve League and the women's league don't start until mid-September.

The new season is under way in the top two divisions. In Liga Betclic, it was not a good start for Farense, going down 2-1 at home to Moreirense despite the visitors having a man sent off midway through the second half. Attendance 5255. In Liga Meu Super, Portimonense play this evening at 1800hrs, away to Felgueiras. Next weekend's fixtures : Farense away up north at Rio Ave Saturday 17th ko 1530hrs Portimonense v Leiria Saturday 17th ko 2030hrs. The Campeonato de Portugal (4th Division) gets under way next Sunday with these fixtures for Algarve teams. All ko's at 1700hrs. Moncaparachense v UF Comércio Indústria (who hail from Sétubal) Louletano and Lagoa will both be away in distant parts. The Algarve League will not be starting for another month at least. Last night in Liga Meu Super - Felgueiras 0 - 0 Portimonense att.1493. Despite being totally outplayed (so the statistics say) a worthy point in the first game of the season for Portimonense. Always take a point away from home.

Next weekend FRIDAY NIGHT 2030hrs Farense v Sporting CP already sold out. Liga Meu Super Portimonense 0 - 3 União Lieira at 16345. With 1 point from their first games, Portimonense sit next to bottom. Their next match will be away up at Mafra next Sunday evening. Campeonato do Portugal Group D - first week Estrela Vendas Novas 0 - 1 Louletano Moncarapachense 5 - 2 Uf Comércio Indústria Lusitano Évora 4 - 0 Lagoa Next weekend Louletano v Moncarapachense TUESDAY 27th August ko 2000hrs Lagoa v Cl. Operário POSTPONED European Conference League Playoff Thursday 22nd August at the Algarve Stadium ko 1900hrs Larne v Lincoln Red Imps (Gibraltar). I have not found any information about tickets for this match on either club's website.

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEKEND'S GAMES Liga Betclic Farense 0 - 5 Sporting att 17,793 (game was played at the Algarve Stadium) featuring a hat-trick by Viktor Einar Gyökeres who played recently for Swansea and Coventry. Farense are bottom of the league with nul points from their three games. Next Sunday they travel to Madeira to play Nacional, who sit two places above them. Liga Meu Super Mafra 2 - 2 Portimonense att 446. Portimonense are 17th of 18 teams with two points from their three matches. Next Sunday morning they have an 11:00am kickoff at home v Marítimo, currently in 5th place. Campeonato de Portugal Group D The game between Louletano and Moncarpachense is being played tomorrow night, ko 2000hrs, at the Algarve Stadium. Lagoa were due to play Operário, a team based in the Azores. They have yet to play a game. That one will be played in October. Next Sunday's fixtures for the Algarve teams Moncarapachense v Sintrense ko 1700 Louletano will travel to Setúbal to play União Futebol Comércio e Indústria The Women's National Division Two in which Guia play starts on 14th September. The Third Division in which Ferreiras and possibly Olhanense will play, on the 29th. There is no information yet on the Algarve League start date. Imortal played a pre season friendly yesterday. It was only announced on their Facebook which I cannot access not having an account. They seem to have recruited almost an entirely new squad, which I shall get to grips with soon.

Last night in the Campeonato de Portugal, Louletano 1 - 0 Moncarapachense a result which puts Louletano into second place. The Women's Third Division gets under way on 29th September. The first phase has the league divided into thirteen geographical groups of just six teams with all phase 1 games to be played by the end of the year. The group winners plus the three best second placed teams will advance to the second phase. What the rest will be doing in the New Year is unclear, but I am sure there will be some form of activity. Ferreiras and Olhanense will both be playing in this one. Their opponents will be Barreirense and Seixal, both south of the river near Lisbon, EFF Setúbal and Lusitano Évora. A lot of long away trips therefore.

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEKEND'S GAMES
Liga Betclic Nacional 2 - 0 Farense att. 2038 Four games and four defeats for Farense, who are firmly bottom of the table. Liga Meu Super Portimonense 5 - 1 Marítimo att. 1186 the match statistics show it to have been a fairly even game except in that one important department! Portimonense are 8th, with five points from their four games. There are no games in the top two divisions next weekend because of international football. Activity resumes for the both the Algarve teams on Sunday 15th September. Farense travel to a certain defeat at FC Porto, while Portimonense will also travel, to Torres Vedras north of Lisbon, where they will do battle with Torreense, currently 5th in the league. Campeonato de Portugual Group D Results for Algarve teams UF Comércio Industria 0 - 1 Louletano Moncarapachense 1 - 1 Sintrense GD Fabril 2 - 3 Lagoa Louletano go top with a 100% record from their three games so far. Moncarapachense are sixth, Lagoa's first win propels them into 10th place of the sixteen. No league games next weekend, for it is the first round of the Portugal FA Cup, the Taça de Portugual Generali Tranquildade. I am only typing that once! Generali Tranquilidade is an insurance company. Makes a change from the usual sponsorship by dodgy gambling firms. These are the Cup matches involving teams from the Algarve, both on Sunday 8th. Louletano v Lagos at 1700hrs a nice local derby in the Algarve Stadium Moncarapachense v Grandôla ko 1700hrs The winners will play each other in the second round a fortnight later. Lagoa and Ferreiras received byes to the second round. Ferreiras, for whom it will be their first competitive game of the season, face a 560km trip to Povoa de Varzim, a little way to the north of Porto. Lagoa will be at home to either União 1919 from Coimbra or Beira Mar from Aveiro. Portimonense also join at this stage and will also have a very long trip to the other end of the country, to play the winners of a tie from a northern group. Seems a bit silly to make teams travel hundreds of kilometres to play in front of a handful of fans. ALGARVE LEAGUE FIXTURES OUT Algarve league Division One gets under way on Saturday 28th September.
