Well done Portimonense for getting through to the Quarter finals of the cup. Beating Famalicao on penalties. Portimonense had 8 players booked including a sending off. The ref was a complete joke, booking players for trivial fouls. You know the ref has lost it when players just start laughing at you. The big second choice Iranian goal keeper had a good game and saved two penalties at the end. The match didn't finish until about 11.40pm. Utter madness.

Yes, I have been reading up about it.

Score  was 1-1 at full time, Portimonense won 4-2 on penalties according to the FA website, 5-3 according to other sources.

Big game (?) in the Cup on Thursday night at 2045hrs is Porto Reserves v Benfica Reserves. Already through are Tondela. Sporting beat third tier side Casa Pia 2-1 on Wednesday night.

11h00: Mafra x Moreirense – Canal 11
17h00: Rio Ave x B SAD - Canal 11
18h45: Vizela x SC Braga – Sport TV

The two teams from the very lower echelon are playing as I write

Today - 14h00: Leça x Paredes two semi-pro teams playing on a Wednesday afternoon. Good for the game that. It was a 1-1 draw after extra time, Leça won 6-5 on penalties.

More on Portimonense. The quarter/semi final draws of the Taca Portugal are out.

QF Wednesday January 12th kickoff 3pm ..... Portimonense v Mafra [8th in the Segunda].
Then, should they progress its a two legged semi v Rio Ave or Tondela [March 2nd away then April 20th at home].

Probably the best chance of a final the locals will ever have. The only remaining 'big guns', Porto and Sporting, are in the other half of the draw. ClapClap

Somebody co**ed up the previous round draw, coupling Benfica with Porto. Sackable offence! Ouch

Well, if it is legally allowed to go to the game on Wednesday 12th and if it really is at 3pm, I shall go. There is actually a bus back to Albufeira from Portimão after 5pm on a weekday.

Farense's game this midweek (away to Varzim) has bee rescheduled to the afternoon of Wednesday January 12th. A proverbial six pointer.

Crowds at both top levels this week so reduced mostly to a few hundred.

This weekend's games and some next midweek

Regional and local football is back on the agenda for this weekend after two weeks of inactivity. A reminder that even with such small crowds at these games, a negative test is required to enter any football ground this weekend.

Liga Bwin

Portimonense v Marítimo Sunday 9th January ko 1530hrs.

Portimonense will also be at home in the FA Cup quarter-final midweek. The game is on THURSDAY night, ko 20.45hrs, opponents are second division side Mafra. The game is live on SportTV which you can find via dodgy internet streams.

Liga Sabseg

Weird fixture list this weekend.

This Thursday night, Farense v Academica Coimbra ko 2015hrs.

Then next Wednesday evening they travel to Varzim. They need some points!

Campeonato de Portugal Group F

Lagos v Louletano Saturday 8th January at 1500hrs  /  3pm - late change

Sunday 9th January at 1500hrs / 3pm

Imortal Albufeira v Serpa
Moncarapachense v Pinhalnovense
Olhanense v Barreirense
UD Montemôr v Juventude Évora

Wednesday 12th January

Louletano v Imortal Albufeira ko 2000 hrs at the Algarve Stadium

ALGARVE LEAGUE DIVISION ONE

Saturday 8th January 1500hrs / 3pm

Lagoa v Silves

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS THIS WEEK´S GAMES

Liga Bwin

Portimonense 1 - 2 Moreirense att 486 (obviously people can't be a***d with all the paperwork and the need for compulsory testing etc. There were more people at Tonbridge v Hungerford in National League South on a very wet and windy Saturday in Kent. And they saw a dramrtic late win for the home side!)

Portimonense fell to a 91st minute winner for the visitors, who needed the points to escape the relegation zone. Portimonense remain in sixth place.

Their next game is in the FA Cup on Thursday night, when they will play second division side Mafra in the quarter finals. Kickoff is at 20.45hrs.

After that, they will be at home in the League on Monday night, Vitória Guimarães are the visitors, kickoff 20.15hrs.

Liga Sabseg

Farense had no game this weekend.  They will be playing on Wednesday afternoon away up at bottom club Varzim.  A win for Farense would give them a nine point advantage over the two teams below them in the relegation zone.

After that they will also be at home next Monday night, 17th January, visitors will be Leixões, ko 1800hrs. Leixões are also near the bottom so more points would be valuable for Farense.

Campeonato de Portugal Group F

Several games were called off, presumably because someone coughed.

Lagos 0 - 3 Louletano
Montemôr 0 - 2 Juventude Évora
Imortal Albufeira 0 - 4 Serpa

Olhanense remain top, 23 points from 10 games, Moncarapachense are second with 20 points then Louletano with 19. Imortal drop to seventh after a display of unmitigated horror of which I shall write.

This week

Louletano v Imortal Albufeira on THURSDAY at the Algarve Stadium ko 20.00hrs

Then on Sunday 16th ko 1500hrs, some though might be changed!

Serpa v Lagos
Louletano v Barreirense also at the Algarve Stadium
Pinhalnovense v Montemôr
Juventude Évora v Imortal Albufeira
Moncarapachense v Olhanense nice local derby that one.

ALGARVE LEAGUE DIVISION ONE

Guia 5 - 2 Farense B
Culatrense 0 - 1 Lusitano VRSA
Almancil 6 - 0 Quarteirense 1937

All other games called off.

Culatrense suffered their first defeat of the season but stay top with 23 points from 10 games. Quarteira SC are second with 21 points, Almancil moved into third on 20 points but have played 12 games. Ferreiras are fifth and Guia sixth.

Next Saturday 15th January ko 1500hrs unless stated

Quarteirense v Lagoa
Internacional Almancil v Culatrense
Silves v Os 11 Esperanças
Guia v Ferreiras
Lusitano VRSA v Almancil
Louletano B v Quarteira SC
Farense B v Odiáxere ko 1730hrs at Penha, Faro.

ALGARVE LEAGUE DIVISION TWO

Carvoeiro United 0 -3 Quarteirense

That was the only game scheduled.

Quarteirense are top of the league, they have won all their nine games so far played. Paderne are second but a long way behind with 19 points.

Next Saturday ko times vary

Bensafrim v Portimonense B ko 1500hrs
Alvor v Messinense ko 1500hrs
Os Armacanenses v Quarteirense ko 1800hrs
Paderne v Sambrasense ko 1800hrs
Campinense v Carvoeiro United ko 1800hrs
4 ao Cubo v Marítimo Olhanense ko 1800hrs

WOMEN'S FOOTBALL

FA Cup Second Round

Guia 11 - 0 Académica Coimbra seems their ladies team is as poor as the men's!  Once a top name they were. That wasn't the highest score in that round. A team by the name of LANK Vilaverdense won their game 21-0.

Ferreiras 4 - 1 Alverca

So both the Algarve's 11 a side teams go through to the third round.

Guia return to Division Two league action next week with an away game.

What goes in Division Three where Ferreiras play escapes me! The first group stage ended before Christmas. I can't find anything about the second phase.

Last night in the Cup Quarter Final

Portimonense 2 - 4 Mafra attendance not published.

A clue to what sort of team Portimonense put out is that only two of their starting XI have pictures on file! https://resultados.fpf.pt/Match/GetMatchInformation?matchId=1714319

Mafra took the lead after just four minutes and doubled it after 15 minutes. Portimonense soon pulled one back but Mafra scored again to go in at half time 3-1 up.

Mafra went four -one up on 72 minutes, Portimonense did score again but that was that.

Mafra, a second division side, will play Tondela (currently 13th in the top division) in one semi-final, while the other will be between Sporting and FC Porto.

Two of tomorrow's Campeonato games called off for the now depressingly usual reason.

Moncarapchense v Olhanense and Serpa v Lagos.

Also off all today's Algarve 1st Division games, except those at Silves, Quarteirense 1937 and Farense B.

Obviously the plague does not affect the Second Division. All six games currently go ahead as planned.
