Agreed, the highlights showed plenty of action and close calls. Farense were more in need of the win as the table shows.
With five to go though, it is only the top six that are fully clear of relegation. The remaining twelve all need some points which is remarkable, in my eyes. Portimonense are in 11th but only a couple of losses away from possibly being dragged below the line.
Certainly a nerve-shredding end to the season with almost all matches having a bearing on who goes down/plays off .....

Farense, on 26pts, have both Porto and Guimaraes, plus Vicente, Tondela and Santa Clara [last game]. They are currently four points short of the safe spots. Not great then.

Portimonense, on 33pts, face Braga [last game], after scrapping outfits Ave, Belenenses, Moreirense and Boavista.

This coming weekend likely to  see some positional shuffling. Cool

Agree its likely Ryan[sp] Gauld could move on, even more so if Farense fall through the trapdoor as is likely. Ouch

Well that was a total bore fest. Portimonense showed very little. Beto looked half a sleep and maybe the transfer speculation hasn't helped. Farense just couldn't nail Gil V down to secure that all important away win.
Whether it happens or not but I wouldn't be surprised that Belenense and Portimonense see out a nil nil draw therefore both teams aquire a point which would virtually guarantee another season in the top league.

Oh dear, another iffy day in the Primeira Liga .....

First up, Belenenses 1-0 Portimonense. With three to play they are a win clear of trouble but thats not a lot. Confused

Just finished, Farense 2-2 Guimaraes. Against a team playing for European football next season this would have been a halfdecent result earlier this term. But the current picture is made bleaker by Farense being 2-1 up against 10 men, going into added time at the end. The sands of time are running out fast at the Sao Luis. CryCry

Beat me to it! Time is indeed running out. Farense are three points behind in the survival stakes with three games remaining, none of which can be seen as giving much, if any, hope.

Those are :

Monday next away to FC Porto, so no chance of anything there
Saturday 15th at home to Tondela, currently 10th
Wednesday 19th away to Santa Clara, currently 7th.

For their part, Portimonense's remaining games are

Monday at home to Moreirense, currently 9th
Saturday 15th away at Boavista, currently 16th
Wednesday 19th at home to Braga, currently 4th

Boavista have a game in hand, which is being played tonight. If they win, they will jump three places and put pressure on the others in the relegation mix.

Bottom eight as of now, 31 games played except Boavista and Famalicão, who also play tonight.

11th - Gil Vicente 35 points
12th - Portimonense 34 points
13th - Marítimo 33 points
14th - Famalicão 31 points
15th - Rio Ave 31 points
16th - Boavista 29 points
17th - Farense 28 points
18th - Nacional 25 points

The team that finishes 16th goes into a playoff with the team that finishes third in the second division. That could be any one of five teams, currently all close together below Estoril, who are already promoted.

Portimonense 1-2 Moreirense.  Locals grimly hanging on to survival after conceding yet another winner in the last ten minutes. Took the lead early on but then, downhill again. Important fixtures tomorrow/Wednesday for Boavista, Rio Ave and Famalicao ........

And Porto 5-1 Farense.  Predictable result but no positives at all. Three Farenses yellow carded in the first seven minutes, closely followed by the opening [penalty] goal against. Then a red card and two further goals conceded. HT 0-3. More Porto goals on 59' and 84' rubbed it in before a last minute consolation for the ten men locals.

The fat lady is warming up her tonsils at Faro.

Yes, important games later tonight for the bottom clubs. If Boavista win, Farense will be five points adrift with two to play. Certainly looks like second division football in Faro next season. Portimonense need to win one of their last two games to ensure safety.

Huge game on Saturday impacting both Algarve teams. Boavista v Portimonense. The other game which could have an impact is Rio Ave v Porto. If Porto can beat Rio Ave then Farense still have a chance. Though Porto can't win the title I suspect there would want to come above Benfica. Also by coming second they come into the Group stages in the Champion League at a later stage. Both Porto and Benfica have come a cropper in recent years in the Group stages of the Champions League which has a massive financial impact on them.
The other point of interest is whether B Gauld will get a Scottish call up for the European Championship.

Yes, all eyes on the Estádio da Bessa at 1530. Farense play at the same time, so by 1730 we shall know their fate. Will Portimonense do their neighbours a favour?

Yesterday

Liga Nos

Boavista 1 - 0 Portimonense
Farense 1 - 0  Tondela (goal scored by Ryan Gauld, 79 min) it must be very tense. Farense had three players booked in the nine minutes of added time at the end.

The bottom of the table looks like this with one game remaining for most teams:

13th Portimonenense 34 pts
14th Maritimo 34pts playing today
15th Boavista 33pts
16th Rio Ave 33pts
17th Farense 31pts
18th Nacional 25pts but a game in hand.

Nacional play today at Famalicão, ko 1500hrs.

The final matches are to be played on Wednesday, ko times are not yet fixed. They would I am sure be at the same time.

Portimonenense v Braga
Sporting Cp v Maritimo
Nacional v Rio Ave
Gil Vicente v Boavista
Santa Clara v Farense

All manner of permutations and combinations of outcomes are possible. If Nacional win today, then all six bottom teams are in danger of relegation. For Farense the task on Werdnesday is simple. Win. But even then they must reply on the wo teams above them losing.

As per normal it's all on the last game. One question, why are Farense below Rio Ave but have a better goal difference. Both are on 31 points. I can't see CD Naional escaping relegation. The best Farense can hope for is coming third bottom and go in the play off. Portimonense as per usual losing by the odd goal.

In Portugal, teams that finish level on points go to a tie-breaker of head-to-head results, not goal difference. It happened that Rio Ave beat Farense home and away, so have that edge.

With five teams in the shakeup for the secondbottom/playoff spots. I think it could well go down to head to heads [or even the next breaker! eg Farense and Maritimo, who are level as both won at home...... Toms your man in such events, my memory has failed].

BTW Maritimo also have a second game to play, later today at home to Guimaraes. Win or draw and they escape, leaving Portimonense further in the mess.

Rio Aves form is terrible but being away to already doomed Nacional is one they might just fancy.
Not out of the question that both Algarve teams occupy the two placings in question. Cry

All to play for ..... Confused
