Last night

Campeonato de Portugal Group H

Amora 1 - 0 Lagos and Pinhalnovense 1 - 1 Louletano

Louletano remain fourth, 25 points from 15 games, three points below Olhanense and with a game in hand. Lagos slip to 7th because of Pinhalnovense's draw.

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEK'S GAMES

Liga Nos

Portimonense 3 - 0 Tondela
Rio Ave 2 - 0 Farense

An excellent result for Portimonense which lifts them to 11th in the table, they are on 23 points from 22 games. Not so good for Farense, who drop to 15th and are now only one point ahead of bottom side Marítimo.

Next weekend

Farense v Belenenses (12th) Saturday 1530hrs
Santa Clara (8th) v Portimonense Saturday 1700hrs

Campeonato de Portugal Group H

Moura 1 - 2 Louletano
Pinhalnovense 0 - 1 Moncarapachense
Olhanense v Lagos postponed, now to be played 28th March.

Louletano (4th) are now level on points with Olhanense (3rd), both have 28 points from 16 games. They are however 11 points behind second placed Amora and 17 points behind leaders Vítoria Setubal with only six games remaining in the first phase. Playoff chances look slim. Moncarapachense are 5th, Lagos 8th and way out of the running.

Next Sunday at 1500hrs

Moura v Olhanense; Moncarapachense v Lusitano Évora; Aljustrel v Louletano and Lagos v Pinhalnovense

The Algarve League has still not been formally abandoned.

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEKEND'S GAMES

LIGA NOS

Farense 0 - 1 Belenenses
Santa Clara 2 - 0 Portimonense

Not a good day for the Algarve teams. Portimonense drop to 12th and Farense return to the bottom with other results definitely not in their favour. But, only four points separate the bottom eight teams.

Next weekend

Portimonense v FC Porto Saturday at 1800hrs
Boavista v Farense Sunday at 1730hrs

Boavista are two places and points above Farense, so a win there would be very useful.

Campeonato de Portugal Group H results and fixtures for Algarve Teams

Moncarapchense 0 - 0 Lusitano Évora
Moura 1 - 4 Olhanense
Aljustrel 1 - 2 Louletano
Lagos 2 - 1 Pinhalnovense

Olhanense are third, 31 points from 17 games but way behind the two leaders and the plaoyff places. Louletano also have 31 points, but are fourth on head to head results with Olhanense. Moncarapachense are 5th and Lagos 6th.

There are only two matches scheduled for next weekend, one of which will be Louletano v Juventude Évora on Sunday afternoon. Seems odd to have a blank weekend when so many teams are behind with their fixtures.

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEK'S GAMES

LIGA NOS

Portimonense 1 - 2 FC Porto

Portimonense scored all three goals! Video clips at https://www.ligaportugal.pt/pt/liga/jogo/20202021/liganos/24/7

Porto took the lead just before half time with the first of the own goals. Portimonense equalised on 64 minutes after the kind of Video decision that usually goes the way of big clubs only. Judge for yourselves!

The official site then shows that Porto took the lead four minutes later. An obvious free kick was well struck from distance, hit the post and rebounded into goal off the 'keeper's back. Then soon followed red cards for both head coaches.

A Portimonense player who had been subbed was then sent off in added time at the end. That may be some kind of record, three red cards in one game when none of those concerned were actually on the pitch at the time!

Better day for Farense : Boavista 0 - 1 Farense

The outcome of those results is that Farense go from 18th to 15th, they have 22 points from 24 games. Portimonense slip further and are now 13th, 23 points from 24 games. Only four points separate the bottom eight clubs. The fight against relegation will be focussing many minds for the remaining ten matches.

No games next week of course because of the World Cup qualifiers. Over Easter Farense will be at home to Braga, while Portimonense will travel to Madeira to play Nacional. Dates and times not yet arranged.

Campeonato de Portugal Group H

The only game involving Algarve teams :

Louletano 2 - 2 Juventude Évora

Louletano  are now up to third place, 32 points from 18 games. Olhaense are fourth, 31 from 17, Moncarapachense 5th, 24 from 19 and Lagos sixth, 22 from 18. With only 11 teams thus 20 games in phase one, Louletano cannot finish higher than third. That will be enough to get them into the playoff tournament for the new National League III coming into operation next season. The teams finishing fourth and fifth also go into those playoffs, which drag on until the end of May. The top two teams in each group go into a separate series to determine the overall Campeonato champions and the two teams who will be promoted into Liga II for next season.

Forthcoming matches

Saturday 27th March Olhanense v Lagos ko 2130hrs (!) and for some reason shown as being played at Ferreiras.  The final two rounds will be played on Saturdays, 3rd and 10th April.

Last weekend's resuts next week's games.

No games in Liga NOS because of internationals. Portugal U-21 beat England U-21 2-0

Next weekend in Liga NOS, Portimonenense will be away at Nacional on Madeira on Friday night. Farense will be at home to Braga, ko 1845 on Monday night. Both the Algarve clubs badly need points in the fight against relegation but it's a big ask for both.

In the Campeonato de Portugal, Olhanense beat Lagos 2-1 in the only Group H game.  That result puts them into third place, two points ahead of Louletano.

Next Saturday will see Louletano host leaders Vítoria Setubal, Olhanense travel to Pinhalnovense. Boh are guaranteed to be in promotion playoffs.  Moncarapachense host second placed Amora. A win will put them into the promotion playoffs, a point would probably be enough. Lagos have no game.

All Saturday's games kickoff at 1500hrs.

" In better times did you go to any games yourself?"

Yes, I did. I was a regular at Imortal Albufeira's home matches and as many of the away games as I could. Imortal play in the Algarve regional league. That was abandoned in January. I have also been to Farense and Portimonense, also several times just up the road to Ferreiras who were in the national third tier but were relegated to the Algarve league in 2019.

Last night's Liga Nos result : Farense 1 - 2 Braga leaving Farense in 16th place and on the edge of the relegation places.

Thanks for that.

I was just wondering because it's something I would have an interest in doing myself when we can spend more time there over the winters and I like that name "Imortal", it has an appeal all of its own. Smile

You will find it interesting. Many of the stadia are fairly bleak multi purpose affairs, although both the top teams of Portimonense and Farense play in proper city centre football grounds with no running track around the pitch. The grounds at Ferreiras FC and Silves are comparable to a minor league ground in UK. It's not expensive, both Portimonense and Farense were €10 when I last able to go although prices do vary according to the oppposition.  Crowds are very low, in fact the Portimonense ground holds only 9,500 but rarely sees more than 3,000 inside.

The smaller clubs have loyal and often vociferous fans, maybe 100 - 200 at a game and in the Algarve League it was only €2,50 to get in.

At the bigger clubs there are no facilities for spectators. Smaller grounds are more welcoming, all have a bar often within sight of the pitch.

Over the past umpteen years I have been to the Algarve Stadium in 2004 for the Russia v Greece game in the Euros (awful game! How did Greece win that comp?), Olhanense v Benfica in 2012 when Olhanense were in the top division ( a 0-0 draw - George Jesus was not happy!), Quarteirense v Farense in about 2013 I think, then more recently a Portimonense game in November 2018 - a 1-1 draw with Belenense

I used to follow your reports on the Immortals, my adopted Portuguese team. I was about to ask what happened to them but read your post. It's squeaky bum time as far as Newcastle United are concerned! Disapprove

Yes, no local football here since before Christmas. I have not seen or heard anything definitive but, with the league system being restructured (again!) for next season, it's unlikely there will be any movement upward from regional leagues to the new National III. Imortal were top of the league, but had played only six games before everything was shut down.

We can only hope that football at the lower levels will resume in September and with supporters able to attend.
