The beach at Ninho das Andorinhas, in Albufeira, was evacuated yesterday due to the risk of collapse on the surrounding cliffs. As a result, around 30 people were evacuated from the site.

Based on the actions of the Maritime Police of the Albufeira Post and the Municipal Civil Protection Service of Albufeira, together with the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA)/Administration of the Hydrographic Region (ARH) of the Algarve, there was a “preliminary assessment” that detected "signs of imminent collapse", explained the same source in information sent to Lusa News Agency.

“During the preliminary assessment carried out by the APA/ARH of the Algarve, signs of imminent collapse were detected, namely open cracks”, said the source from the captaincy of Portimão, who has jurisdiction in the Albufeira area, anticipating work to carry out the demolition in a controlled manner.

The same source underlined that, although the beach at stake “is not a bathing beach”, there were about 30 bathers, some foreigners, who followed very well the instructions” from the authorities to leave the area.

Not bad for mid October! Pictures taken around 3.45pm Sunday 17th. Temperature was 24º, wind light.

There has been a fence of sorts around the rock pillar for a very long time. I didn't notice anything different on Sunday but will have a closer look soon.

It looks like a temporary building fence. They have fenced off the ramp down to the beach and the balustrades at the Rocamar viewing platform. Several workers from an engineering firm taking sharp intakes of breath when I passed.

Something has gone wong. Part of the cliff face has collapsed onto the bottom of the ramp.

Anyone local to take some photos of the work going on. I see the rubble on the steps has increased. was this natural fall or done deliberately by the workers.

I will be down that way tomorrow. Probably deliberately done as there have been some falls recently. The cliff is very unstable in parts, one past fall removed part of the retaining wall.
