My apologies, Cubsur, I hadn't seen your previous comment about the Portugal Resident article. A strange one!

The last photo seems to show a jet ski at the lifeguard station.
As you say Cubsur, lifeguards are not allowed in the water. Perhaps they are permitted with a jet ski. ?????

They had the Jet ski`s last year I suppose its faster than swimming out to the stricken person also you could tow them back/ behind slowly.

That is indeed a jet ski. They possibly don't actually don't have to go into the water to lassoo a victim and tow them at high speed back to the shore. Some have said that they will do their jobs as they always have. We shall see whether 'elf 'n' safety comes before someone drowning! But with no pedalos and stuff like that, they shouldn't have to go very far unless someone floats off on an airbed.

It's a public holiday today so office workers and some others are not at work. Despite the clouds and the cool wind, many people were no doubt enjoying being outside. Almost all the beach restaurants are open. It was actually quite strange to walk along the beach and not hear any English voices. Picture 4 is the work ongoing outside the Sol e Mar to rebuild the terrace restaurant area. The picture below (5) is a new but half built beach restaurant in front of the Monica Isabel hotel. |

It is no coincidence that in no known language does the phrase 'As pretty as an Airport' appear. Douglas Adams

Yes, still very quiet with only a fraction of the tourist numbers we saw in late June last year and before. Something else to help will be the re-opening of the border with Spain next week. Later this week I am going to head over to São Rafael etc.
