Saturday 21st February

In brief the race will get going from outside the town hall at 11:00, then there's a 'procession' along the main Avenida and then up N395 towards Ferreiras and Paderne. Road closures will be in place for maybe 30 minutes as the race passes by.

The annual edition of the Volta ao Algarve bike race will include a stage starting in Albufeira on Saturday 21st February.

Full details are not yet available, but if it follows previous events it will start from the large parking area outside the town hall in mid morning, proceed along the main Avenida before heading up the N395 towards Ferreiras and beyond.

The Albufeira Municipality Rally – Encivil returns to the roads of the municipality on December 13th and 14th.

For those not interested, there will be road closures on the Saturday night, especially along the main Avenida dos Descobrimentos across town.

On Sunday the 14th, the rally continues along the roads of the municipality, with three special stages in the parishes of Ferreiras, Guia and Paderne.

The 3rd annual São Silvestre nigh-time 'fun run' around the town starting at 2000hrs Saturday 20th December. Two courses, a 5.8km walk open to everyone and 10.7km run for those aged 18 and over.

Yep, Continente in both Silves and Messines are OTT on the Christmas effort. Christmas "chunes" been playing for over a week now. The amount of chocolates they have surpasses anything I've ever seen in the UK. I know I am old and cynical, but do we really need Christmas trees on the roundabouts on 5th November and every other advert on TV, both Portuguese and British, already has a Christmas theme. Leroy Merlin has it's Christmas home decorations on sale and stuff is also appearing in the supermarkets.

I was in town yesterday evening and saw all of the motorbikes. Seemingly it was the 9th annual off-road meeting, finishing in Albufeira. I saw motorbikes from Portugal, Spain, Germany and Switzerland. Not sure what else was on for 5th celebrations. I see that there is a tent erected at Fisherman's beach this morning and the area was being power washed. One of the workers told me that 'the President of Albufeira' is coming to visit on 5th October, which I know is Republic Day.
