We have done the journey from Bedfordshire to Albufeira many times albeit through France rather than Santander.
IBIS take dogs at €5 surcharge in both Spain & France. We have stayed in both Salamanca (beautiful city)& just outside Burgos with our Westie without problem.

We are travelling down to Albufeira in November for a 4 month "trial" stay with a view to buying in the area and retiring there. We will be bringing our dog with us and need to find somewhere to stay overnight en route.
