This doesn't bode well... second time in a year as well. Fingers crossed it gets sorted.

They've been given a 24 hour stay of execution, this is not looking good! ☹️

It's a harsh world out there. Too many airlines, fighting for too few passengers willing to pay more than peanuts for flights, in a highly seasonal business on many routes.

Isn't the issue around their ATOL licence for package holidays? Therefore in theory flight only customers potentially should be OK. Well at least I'm hoping so as we are using them in 2 weeks time, or maybe not!Confused

Knock on effect apparently Les. If the holiday side goes belly up, no one is going to have the confidence to book flights, commit to contracts with them etc, so the demise of the company becomes inevitable...

Yes, it is confusing, there are two trains of reports. One is as Les queries, the BBC website actually states that flight only bookings won't be affected whatever happens, other agencies say if they don't get a renewal, or extra time to do so, the lot will cease to function and 100,000 passengers currently abroad will be stranded.
There are two deadlines reported, a CAA decision by no later then 4.00pm today, and a 24 hour extension which gives them until midnight tonight.
The only thing we can do at the moment is wait and see.

Gone

Monarch Airlines has ceased trading and all of its future bookings have been cancelled, the Civil Aviation Authority has said.

Sad news indeed. The 5th biggest British airline goes into administration and the CAA launch the biggest peacetime repatriation exercise.

"Customers abroad: Everyone due to fly in the next fortnight will be brought back to the UK at no cost to them. There is no need to cut short a stay
Customers currently overseas should check monarch.caa.co.uk for confirmation of their new flight details - which will be available a minimum of 48 hours in advance of their original departure time."

All affected customers should keep checking monarch.caa.co.uk for more information

Hope you get back ok Andrew (& any others) but as already said it will be difficult for the employees to pick up work quickly as the holiday business goes into winter shutdown.

Deep joy, our Birmingham flight is now going to take us to Gatwick! Then two hours before courtesy bus departs and then four hours to Birmingham, I don't think so. "Taxi!"
That said, credit to the CAA for how they're sorting this, there was always going to be inconvenience but given the enormity of the exercise we shouldn't complain.

There's four of us and we had taxi booked from B'ham, so we only have to pay difference, £130, split four ways, and delivered to our door... no brainer.

I'm seeing press reports of how well the replacement repatriation flight exercise is going but.... ours, today, was the absolute pits. Treated like cattle just about covers it. Told to be there at least three hours prior to flight at 10.00am, so we get there at 6.30am. They didn't open check in until 9.30!!! Three hour wait and clearly no way we were going at ten. They then changed the departure to 11.05, we went at 12.30, six hours after we got to the airport complying with instructions... there's more but life is too short and you get the drift.
Absolute dire organisation, we were treated with total disdain, it'll be interesting to see if the Press continue to only find complimentary stories.
