Eh up folks, does anyone know how much it would cost for a taxi from the Monica Isabel hotel to the old town, also, does anyone have a number for an English speaking taxi driver?

I don't have any direct numbers to drivers but all the operators I have ever dealt with speak English. The number for the taxi is, if you don't already know, 00351 289583230. The cost from Monica Isabel to old town will be the minimum cost, whatever that is at the moment, about €4.

Don't forget its 60c extra if you phone for one, so minimum €4.50 now.

Live music in Harry's, Karaoke in Tic-Tac when we passed by on Wednesday. Not much else. Urban Pizza may have a band in some nights?

If you head the other way from Monica Isabella there is a better than average Karaoke at the old house every night of the week..fuller at weekends.
Nice atmosphere not the drunken screaming type...mainly "cough cough" older generation so if you are on the pull not much good.
Some very good singers...some good singers ...some good but not as good as they would like to think they are.
Weekends can be a bit jammed up until about 11.30 then it clears out a bit..cocoa time!!

Well some of themWink.

If you look at the map in the 'tourist guide' of this site, you'll find it bottom right of the map.

Auld House is just through the Pedra dos Bicos roundabout, bottom right of this map. EVA buses stop nearby .... and the Blue and Green giros stop at CPO/Forte da Oura, around 150 yards west.

Cross over the road from hangover bar head for roundabout and about 100 yards away on your right.

On the subject of taxis, have they reduced their fares. Got a taxi from the rank outside Modelo to Acoteias yesterday morning and the fare was 8.65 Euro.
That was for 2 passengers + 5 large shopping bags (not carrier bags)
Have paid as much as 12 Euro in the past and can't remember it ever being as low as that before - it's usually at least 10+
If that's now standard then it's only 2 Euro more expensive than the bus and certainly the better option.

I hate how peopleï compare Frank Zappa to God. I mean, he's cool and great and nice and everything, but he's no Zappa.

I would think they forgot to charge for the bags @ 80 cents each

Don't forget that Uber are also in and around Albufeira, cheaper than the 'standard' taxis.

Don't think we've ever been charged for bags.
It's always got 3.65 (I think) on the clock when we get in (with or without shopping bags) and we only ever pay what it says on the clock when the taxi stops (+ a tip).

I think they push a button 'x' number of times per bag and maybe a button to add the 80c call out fee. Somehow it ends up on the bill. I think! Normally only use taxis when a bit worse for wear!

Made the same journey this morning. Two passengers + 5 bags.
The clock was showing 3.25 when we set off and 8.65 when we got out and that was what we paid + tip
Exactly the same as last week and certainly 2 or 3 Euro less than we have paid for the last 3 or 4 years.
