Can anyone help?
I paid my April IMI a bit late on 9 May and its gone out of my account on that day.
I have just got a reminder letter from Financas for the original amount plus 23.40 added on as a fine.
What do I do?
1.  Ignore it as I have paid.
2.  Pay just the fine.
3.  Something else.
I'm in the UK so can't pop in there and sort it out.
Is there a number to ring them?

I'd pay the fine, it'll just keep mounting up if you don't.

IMI bills need to be paid by end of April to avoid a fine so as you paid in May you have been fined.
As I understand it you get a 10% fine for every month you are late so if you don't pay it the bill will just keep on increasing every month.
You can pay it from your Portuguese Bank Account so there is no need to go over.
Don't pay the original bill again though as you're unlikely to get it back until your next IMI Bill.
The phone number is 707 206 707 but my suspicion is that phoning them would get you nowhere and cost you more than the fine.

That's right, IMI has to be paid in April.

I paid mine from my Portuguese bank account and printed out the transaction just in case.

Pay the fine right now at the very least as it is June and another 10% will be added.

Reading the comments just made me chuckle when the word  "Fine" is mentioned. We went to financas last year as our Solicitor/ fiscal rep had never paid ours for 2012 and  found that financas had  put a charge on our bank account for the amount. We didn't know what this charge was for even though we knew it was financas. When I mentioned to the lady at the counter was there  a fine on this unpaid IMI arrears she said "it's not a fine but an administration charge" Big smile  . I said to her well everyone calls them fines, she just smiled.

It wont let me just pay the amount of the fine.
When I put in the 15 digit reference number it says the total amount must be 331,53 which is the 308,13 plus the fine of 23,40
So now what??

You'll need to get proof of the bank transaction and contact them with it. I paid my IMI last April through the Multibanco and luckily kept the transaction slip. I got the same notice as you have now, the payment never "went through". A Portuguese friend went to the Financas with the Multibanco slip and had it all cancelled for me.

I didn't pay it at a multibanco.  I guess a printed bank statement should suffice.  However, if I'm in the UK my chances of sorting it out are pretty slim I presume.

1. Are you certain that the payment actually left your account?

2. Are you registered on the Financas website?
If so, when you've logged in you can send them a message/fill in a form by clicking on "Não-Residentes e Entidades Públicas"

Here's the link but I doubt if it'll work if your're not registered & logged in.

https://www.portaldasfinancas.gov.pt/pt/novoPedidoFormNaoResidentes.action

Edit - Just checked & the link works without being logged in.

Click on the first drop down menu & select IMI/IMT/IS/IUC
Click on the 2nd drop down menu and select IMI
Click on the 3rd drop down menu and select Pagamento - Cobranca
Type in subject
Write your message and hope for the best
Don't forget to give them your details and your email address

Yes it went out of the account fine, as it has done for the last many years, albeit first time late.
What a bloody hassle.
Yes I have a sign on to Financas website, can't imagine if I write my message and hope for the best anything will come of it, but thanks for the instructions.
Thanks for all your answers, a friend of mine has said if I send the reminder and bank statement he will go to Financas and endeavour to sort it out for me.

Wendy does your bank statement have a PDF file against the payment which  you can download for proof its been paid instead of sending a copy of your banks statement.
Not sure who you bank with but Millennium have a PDF file against the payment on your bank statement  you can download and print off. Good Luck !!!!!

All sorted thanks to a friend who went up there for me.
He even got the fine waived, now that's a result.

If anyone wants details of a reliable builder, handyman and miracle worker let me know.
Thanks Dave Strange.

Have the October accounts gone out yet?     Mine is posted to uk but am over here now.    Was going to go down there and pay it over the counter today but will it be pointless if they have not gone out yet?

Another question which is baffling me at the moment. we sold our house in Sept 2015 and our accountant informed us that liability for payment of IMI  goes off  whoever owns the property at the end of Dec of that year ie Dec 2015. So sold in Sept 2015, will we be liable for that year or not ?. I know IMI is in arrears so we are  liable for year end Dec 2014 and expect a bill for that in March 2016  but are we liable for anymore after that. I have been informed by someone else who has just sold and was  informed by their lawyer  that you are liable up until the date you sign the deed which makes sense in a way , so sounds like  a bill in April 2016 and also a bill in April 2017 for us  then  as apparently  financas don't allow you to pay up your IMI  debt for the following year. If true how stupid is the system.  Does anyone know the true ins and outs of it cos I'm so confused. Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Had a letter delivered to my UK. Home today from Santander Totta.     As best i can translate it says they have taken over Banif.     Anyone else banking with Banif recieved similar letter.   Will this make it easier to pay IMI from UK .?

It is very easy to pay IMI from a Santander account -
After the login page you have numerous choices down the left hand side.
You need Pagamentos and within that section there's a sub section called Pagamentos Estado (Payments to State).
Simply enter the reference number on your IMI bill in the boxes given & the amount.
That's all there is to it

I haven't received anything as yet but had noticed that the Banif bank up by the bus station in town had gone. If Santander have taken them over is there a branch in the town anywhere?

There are two other Banif branches in Albufeira that i know of, one by the local camera office and one opposite Little Britain near the bullring.       The letter says there is no action to take, all payments etc will continue.

I use the branch up by the Camara, that one by the Bus Station is gone since last summer. I think happygirl709 wondered if there was a branch of Santander that Banif customers can now use.

The only Santander Totta branch now listed for Albufeira on their website is this one :

Edifício Rádio Solar - Areias de S. João
8200-262, Albufeira
Tel: 289540830 Fax: 289540831
Email: albufeira@santander.pt
Horário: 2ª - 6ª 8:30 - 15:00
Hora de Almoço: Aberto
Equipamentos: Multibanco, Cheques e Depósitos
Serviço de Caixa: Sim

The 'Edifício Rádio Solar' is by the traffic lights where the main road across town (Avenida dos Descobrimentos) crosses the 'strip', between there and the bullring.

The Santander branch that Cubsur details is on the main road halfway between The Strip crossroads and the bull ring. There used to be two branches, one either side of the road and opposite each other, there's only one now and it's the opposite side of the road to the bullring.
