LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEKEND'S GAMES

Famalicão 2 - 2 Portimonense att. 3729 the home team were leading 2-1 but had been playing with ten men following a sending off before half time. Portimonense grabbed a vital point with a late equaliser. Drama elsewhere with the team below them, Chaves, playing Estoril who are just above Portimonense. Estoril were winning 2-1 as the game entered added time. Obviously some problem here as two Estoril players were sent off after THIRTEEN added minutes, followed rapidly by a red card for one of the assistant coaches.  Despite that, Estoril were denied a third goal by an excellent save, then Chaves equalised as TWENTY minutes of added time clocked up. The final whistle blew, two more red cards were dished out to the obviously very disgruntled players and coaches from Estoril.

All that leaves Portimonense in 16th place on 28 points, five ahead of Chaves. Estrela Amadora are one above Portimonense on 29 points, then come Estoril and Boavista on 30. With four games remaining, only four points separate 9th from 16th place.

Farense get their turn tonight. They are at home to Benfica ko 2015hrs.

Campeonato de Portugal Second Phase South Group

Moncarapachense began their four team second phase round with a 2-0 defeat in the Azores.  Next Sunday they face Vítoria Setubal, ko 1600hrs in their little ground in the village.

Algarve League Division One Second Phase - top group

Lagos 2 - 0 Odiáxere
Quarteirense 0 - 0 Ferreiras
Silves 2 - 4 Lagoa

Almost done and dusted. Lagoa are 19 points clear of Lagos at the top. The two meet next Saturday. A win or a draw for Lagoa will confirm the title and promotion to the Campeonato de Portugal.

WOMEN'S FOOTBALL

National League Third Division second phase south group

Guia 4 - 0 Vasco da Gama. Guia top the eight team group with 26 points from ten matches.  Next weekend they travel to second placed Ad Pasteis Bola, knowing a win would set them five points clear at the top of the table.

Taça Promoção Feminina Group I

Ourique 2 - 0 Ferreiras. Ferreiras have finished their programme, four points ahead of the chasers who have only one game remaining. Ferreiras are therefore guaranteed top position and a place in Phase two, which will begin some time in May.

Vital wins for both the Algarve teams in the struggle to avoid relegation but it's far from over. Farense are 10th on 30 points. Portimonense are 16th (of 18) on 26 points and still in the position where they would require a playoff against the team finishing third in Division Two. They won up at bottom team Chaves with two late goals, despite playing the last half hour with ten men following a red card. There are six games remaining.

Next weekend, Farense travel on Saturday up to Vítoria Guimarães (5th) while Portimonense will be at home to Casa Pia (9th) on Sunday with ko at 1800hrs.

Barreirense 0 - 1 Ferreiras

Ferreiras top the five team group, with 17 points from seven matches. They have no game next weekend. They need to avoid defeat in the last game to win the group. That´s on 21st April, away to Ourique.

Arouca 2 -1 Farense att 1127 (there were more at the National League south match at Tonbridge yesterday)
Portimonense 3 - 5 Braga att a paltry 2204. Portimonense were 5-1 down before a late rally made the score a bit more respectable. But that and other results mean they fall to 16th place (of 18 teams) which, if they finished the season there, would mean a playoff against the team that finishes third in the second division. Farense are 13th, four points above the danger zone.

Nothing at stake for the Algarve teams in the final weekend of the first phase. Moncarpachense will finish second and qualify for the second phase. Louletano finish in mid table and Imortal Albufeira bottom and relegated.

Promotion certainly would not have been allowed. But it is an inexplicable loss of form. The same group of players are out there. The others do have more to play for, that's certain.

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEKEND'S GAMES

No game in the top league last weekend of course. Next weekend both Farense and Portimonense are going to be in dire need of points to avoid dropping in to the relegation zone.  Next Saturday afternoon Farense travel up north to the little town of Arouca, who are currently seventh.  Portimonense will be at home on Monday night, 1st April, with Braga the visitors, ko 2015hrs. Braga are fourth and hoping for a place in European competition next season.

NOTE FOR EASTER - semi professional leagues do not play over the Easter holiday weekend. The only match in the Algarve will be Portimonense v Braga on Monday night, 1st April, ko 2015hrs.

CAMPEONATO DE PORTUGAL FIRST PHASE GROUP D

That was the penultimate round of matches in the first phase.  Already decided, Moncarapachense will join winners Vítoria Setubal in the second phase promotion and championship round that starts in mid  April.  Imortal were long since doomed to relegation and will be joined in the downfall by Real SC and the aforementioned Oriental Lisboa. The remaining two relegation spots will be decided on the last round of matches on 7th April, with four clubs involved.

GD Fabril Barreiro have 33 points, Serpa 31, V de G 30 and Juventude Évora 29. All kinds of permutations are possible, but Juventude must win to have any chance of avoiding the drop. GD Fabril need just a draw to be safe, they would be above Vasco da Gama on head to head results if points are level and their goal difference is vastly superior to the others. The results between two teams tied on points is the first tie break criterion.

Imortal's final and meaningless match for both, up at Sintra, will be on Saturday 6th April, ko 1600hrs.
