Sunday's game is shown on official websites as 5pm kickoff, at which time I shall be there.

Imortal played away to Lagos in a pre season game last Saturday. Lagos won 2-1, no other details are available other than the crowd numbered 'about a dozen' and that both their goals were scored by one Duvan Guerra.

I have yet to find all details about Imortals squad for next season. The official website has not been updated for three years and their Facebook page contains only a few names of recent signings. Other sources are also fairly unhelpful.

Imortal 1 - 1 Louletano

A decent crowd of around 200 saw a match that at times was highly unentertaining. The dictum for referees not to penalise trivial offences has not percolated down to the lower echelons of Portuguese football. A ridiculous 45 free kicks were awarded during the game.  After ten minutes I had noted that there had been more free kicks than minutes played. Overall there were eight yellow cards plus two sendings off, but hardly a bad foul in the whole game.

It was a sunny early evening (the game started at 5pm) but windy. The pitch is in fairly good condition, although several months with no rain has left one or two slight bare patches.

Both goals came immediately after a sending off. Imortal defender Wellington Ferreira managed to get himself booked twice in five minutes after just eighteen minutes of play. Once the customary debate was concluded, Loouletan's Alvaro Gomes steered the free kick round the wall low and hard past the helpless Nélio Pereira in the Imortal goal.

Imortal's equaliser came in similar circumstances on 77 minutes. Visting defender Ferreira received a second yellow after a challenge on the edge of the penalty area. The kick was driven hard into a mass of bodies, two shots were blocked but eventually the loose ball fell to Rodrigo Macedo who smashed it home from near the penalty spot. Picture from Alberto Cortez Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/alberto.cortez.5477

There was some nervousness among the crowd when six minutes of added time was announced, but there were no problems for Imortal to keep the draw.

Louletano had created some good scoring chances in the first half when they were one up and it was 10 v 11 but a fine tip over save from Pereira and some good defending kept them out until half time.

Imortal came out very determined for the second half and were unlucky with an early shot that bounced off the angle of post and crossbar. The crowd got behind them, there was some good midfield play but few scoring chances. Pereira did well midway through the second period, reading the game to come way outside his area to thwart a counter attack with a good interception.

Overall a decent result considering that most of the Imortal team has not played a competitive match since January.

Next game is the First Round FA Cup tie on Saturday 11th September away at Vidigueira, a dot on the map 100 miles or so away, up in the Alentejo near Beja. Next home league game is not until 3rd October.

Admission to this exalted level of football is €4,50 this season.

Imortal are through to the second round of the Portugal FA Cup after winning 2-1 away up at Vidigueira.

Deduced from the official FA website, the game was goal-less at half time. Mateus Vieira gave Imortal the lead immediately after the break, then ten minutes into the second half Alexandre Portela made it two.  The home side pulled one back on 90 minutes, Imortal came through the added four minutes intact.

In round two, Imortal have been drawn at home to Liga 2 side Vilafranquense, who hail from the city of Vila Franca de Xira, north east of Lisbon. Games to be played on or around Sept 25th. Testing tie for the reds.

A glimmer of hope in that Vilafranquese are currently bottom of Liga 2 with two points from five games. A game I shall be unable to watch as I shall be in sunny Tonbridge that weekend catching up for two years loss of ale drinking.

More details from Sunday. The only goal was scored by Imortal defender Mario Duarte from the penalty spot on 57 minutes. Four Imortal players were booked, as were four of theirs and about  par for the course. During the eight minutes of added time at the end Imortal sub Bruno Pereira was sent off.

Imortal 1 -1 Juventude Évora

Some might blame the strong wind, but I think Imortal have mainly themselves to blame for dropping two points. After a dominant first half, capped with a good goal right on time, the second half was full of mistakes, too  many passes were going astray and the ball lost far too easily and far too often. They paid the penalty three minutes before the end of normal time when a pass floated in on the wind easily found Shibane totally unmarked just inside the penalty area. One touch to control and a superb shot wide of Nélio Pereira into the far corner gave the ´keeper no chance.

It was a sunny but windy afternoon, the wind blowing straight down the pitch. Imortal had the wind in their favour at the start. Tidjane Balde had an early chance with a header but was denied by a good save.  Imortal had the best of the game, keeping Évora mostly pinned into their own half. Imortal defender Fadini did though have to make a useful interception with a toe end to divert a cross that looked bound for the two strikers near him. He was called into action again when some good defensive work on a rather troublesome winger, Almeida, who switched wings at will and caused problems with his speed.

For all that, Imortal's finishing was either wayward or weak. They had managed only one effort on target as the half came to a close when things livened up a bit. Macedo was inches wide with a low long range effort jsust as the clock ticked to 45 minutes. Somehow the referee found three minutes to add to proceedings and in the second of those minutes a supeb cross from the right by Torres was met with a powerful close range header by Mario Duarte for the goal.

Évora came out for the second half with a lot more purpose and with the gusty wind in their favour were quickly on top. Imortal were limited to the odd counter-attack as the pressure mounted and problems began to increase. Pereira wa forced to finger-tip a dangerous cross over the bar as it caught in the wind. Almeida was still attacking on both flanks and joined by half time sub Shibane they had Imortal defenders well under pressure. But despite many efforts it was to no avail.

With 16 minutes remaining, Évora were reduced to ten men. Santos saw straight red for a challenge on Duarte. That red had been preceded by five yellows in that half hour or so since the interval. The ref obviously thought he would not meet his quota for the day and some of the cards were rather questionable.

Not longer after that, Shibane hit the top of the Imortal crosber with a header while goalkeeper and defenders could but watch. By this time the Imortal head coach was flapping his arms like a demented penguin as he could see the game slipping out of control.

Shibane had his reward with the equaliser, a flurry of substitutions broke up the game (five are allowed in this League) and resulted in five minutes being added on. Évora seemed happy to take the point and all ended fairly quietly.

Imortal now have no game for two weeks! The next home game will be on 31st October when Moncarpachense will be the visitors. A week earlier they will travel to Pinhal Novo, south of Lisbon.

Match statistics

Free kicks conceded : Imortal 17, Évora 22 (still no lenient approach in Portugal!)
Offside : Imortal 2, Évora 3
Shots on target : Imortal 2, Évora 4
Shots off target : Imortal 6, Évora 3
Shots blocked : 2, Évora 1
Corners : Imortal 5, Évora 4
Yellow cards : Imortal 4, Évora 2
Red Cards : Évora 1

Pinhalnovense 1 -1 Imortal

A short report as obviously I could not travel there!

A good result at the league leaders, the first points they have dropped.

Imortal were 1-0 down at half time and made three changes.

Reward came in the 53rd minute with an equaliser from Mario Duarte.

The final twenty minutes or so minutes look like fun, with five bookings and two sendings-off, all but one guilty party being the home team.

In toal eight yellow and two red cards, about par for a Portuguese game!

Next Sunday Imortal host bottom club Moncarapachense with a 3pm / 1500hrs kickoff.

IMORTAL 1 - 1 MONCARAPACHENSE

Imortal's fourth draw of five league games played. Iit was pretty dire stuff for much of the afternoon, with most of ther drama in the final moments which ended up with Imortal's goalkeeper Nélio Perreira being sent off and a few moments later one of the visiting players.

The first half was very poor. Neither side could keep the ball, there were too many long hopeful passes which were easily dealt with a both ends. Moncarapachense did manage an attack of sorts on 26 minutes, but experienced defender Pedro Rorigues did just enough to slow down the attacker, whose final effort was soft and wide. A couple of minutes later the visitor's ´keeper Tiago Maia tried a cheeky shot from free kick from inside his own half, hoping the wind would assist but it didn't, the ball droping nicely into his opposite number's arms.

Shortly before half time, Imortal defender Calado was booked for a bad challenge and moments later bundled over an opponent to concede a penalty. He was lucky not to get a second yellow. After the ritual protests, Luis Gaspar converted the spot kick to cue celebrations as if they had won the World Cup.

Much muttering in the stands at half time. Imortal had maanged only one half decent shot and nothing at all on target.

The first fifteen minutes of the second half consisted mainly of four substitutions and two more bookings to add to the five in the first half. Imortal were playing better, well they could hardly have been worse. A good move down the left between Williams Fadini (who was one of the better players all round) and Flavinho came to nothing when the final pass was blocked for a corner. For their part, Moncarpachense were playing five at the back, relying on the occasional counter attack. One such almost caught Imortal with too high a line, it was four v three but the final ball was feeble and wide.

Imortal continued to press, two really good tip-over saves by Maia denied  Emanuel Costa and later Rodrigo Macedo.

The equaliser came halfway through the half, a really good cross by Fadini eluded the goalkeeper and defenders leaving Macedo to slide in at the far post and score from close range.

Four more subs and three more bookings later and Moncarpachense had a gold plated chance to grab the points. A long ball caught out Rodrigues, he stumbed on the turn leaving Santos one on one with Pereira, fifteen yards from goal. His first shot was blocked, the rebound turned away for a corner, leaving him to beat the grass in frustration.

Four minutes added time were announced.  The visting 'keeper was booked for time wasting. A few seconds of added time to go and it all kicked off. Pereira dropped onto a loose ball in the customary fashion, one of the forwards made the usual half hearted attempt to get it and was penalised. Pereira stayed down, a scrum formed. Somewhere in the melée Pereira said or did something the ref didn't like and was shown red. Bedlam ensued for four more minutes, with everyone involved, much arm waving and shouting, even the three GNR officers were paying attention. One of the Moncarapachense subs, who had been booked earlier, got a second yellow for advancing onto the pitch and making threatening gestures at various Imortal players.

Once order was restored, Imortal made their final change with reserve goalie Hans Freitas replacing Tidjane Balde, the free kick awarded ages before was taken and the game was over.

Imortal's next game is on Sunday 7th away in Montemôr.
