Again, apologies but that in itself is prejudice haha. I just don't see why people should be condemned for wearing football shirts. I've struck up quite a few conversations where I've seen a kit that I didn't recognise, it's a good conversation starter if you allow it to be. Sorry if I offend anyone (genuinely not the reason for my reply) just using the above quote as an example because it's been given to me (on a plate). I once had a bad experience with a Brazilian fella on holiday, that doesn't mean that if I see a bunch of Brazilians in a bar I'm not going to go in. For me to extend my experience to EVERY Brazilian I happen upon, would be prejudiced. As I said in a previous post, "they" could be some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. But, that's just my opinion. Fairly often. people judge us for the way that we look, but I can guarantee that the people who have actually come up and spoken to us have been treated with more than enough respect and basic common decency. |

Pablo, by your own admission you have had a "bad experience" with a Brazillian chap. I myself have never had a problem with anyone ever abroad, perhaps that is down to my outlook in life. As I am a black belt in Karaoke I like to steer clear of trouble. If I had the opportunity to go into a bar full of footie supporters or one without, I will choose the one without. If that is being predudiced so be it. I belive it is experience. I have supported my local team Airdrie (onians) United and my national team (I was born in Birkenhead) for over 55 years and have seen many ugly incidents in bars caused by footie fans. The point "Jock" and I are trying to make is that we are Lovers and not Fighters. But having said all that, the original post is about The Scots Rock Bar. I have been in it a few times to watch football games on one of the big screens and it is full of footie supportes with football strips on and I have never seen even a hint of trouble.

Ooh er Missus! Don't you find that people who wear footbal tops on holiday tend to be from the lower end of the social spectrum? When they are in bars abroad they often have snotty nosed children with them, sometimes restrained in a push chair. How dreadful! One doesn't mix with such people at home or abroad. |

Jock I find that a rather insulting post, lower end of the social spectrum indeed, my hubby will occassionally wear his football shirt when watching our team on TV while on hols, or an England shirt when watching England if there is a game on. As far as snotty nosed children, well, did you never have a snotty nose as a kid. If its meant to be a joke wink wink thing well it doesn't look like one & hasn't gone down very well in my eyes. Rant over

This is a true story.
My dad used to work in a paper mill, where they used to pulp old clothes to make paper. One day he brought me home a Partick Thistle top. It was made from wool but had both sleeves cut off. I wore it every evening when out playing for years. This was 1956. So I believe I was the first person in the UK to start wearing footie tops. And yes before you ask i had a snotty nose. |

To say that people who wear football shirts are from the lower end of the social spectrum is the height of ignorance. Newsflash, snotty nosed kids aren't confined to football shirt wearers. But again, "one" would mix with such people because I imagine I would be classed as one of them. Though granted I don't have a child.
If it was intended as a joke, a bit of clarity wouldn't go amiss, otherise it reaffirms my earlier point of tarring all with the same brush. |

RogerD, I think champions league final is on the 19th. Its the first one being held on a saturday. Also at 17-00 on the same day I am hoping Ulster rugby will win the Heiniken cup at Twickers. We have to beat Edinburgh first on saturday in the semi, fingers crossed. Will be in Dublin at the weekend for that one and Floyds (hopefuly) for the final.
