I kind of agree with Simpson that football should probably be a taboo subject on our forum (especially as Liverpool are in such poor form at the minute). I hate to see my countrymen parade up and down Albufeira in hooped football strips. For the price of one footie top I can buy a couple of nice summer shirts that look much better and do not make me run with sweat.
re- Middlesbough FC I heard that Middlesbough will have Nigel Clough as their manager in a couple of years. He said he will have them out of the conference in one season.

Agreed about the football tops. If I'm considering going into a bar and I see a few I go elsewhere. The same applies to tops proclaiming the country that the wearer comes from. I'm never sure what point they are trying to make but I'd rather avoid them.
We Scots can be a bit parochial at times. |

E.G. football on football forum ,holidays on holiday forum. Thanks for your reply tonisdad never meant any harm. If a liitle more imput is required of me please let me know did not know what you want me to imput. I do from time to time ask and answer questions but only what I know about. Does any one know how to knit a loopy bonnet. ? (joke) Last New Year t i was in Albufeira I heard Gary Ablett had died first place we went for confirmation was the scots rock but they did not know so a text home to Liverpool was needed .I think my last im put was in January dicussing our New Year stay and my husbands health and his G.P.s prescription for more sunshine he has osteoporosis. We did come back again but had a week in Albufeira and 2weeks in Tavira, and Vila Real. We have being going to Albufeira for 18 years now and when i found your forum i was overjoyed and glad of all the information you give . Hope i have done or said nothing to upset any one this time it is not ment too Simpson(Marie )

Apologies if I'm opening a can of worms that has just been closed, but I
honestly don't see what's wrong with a wearing a football shirt. If I
was at home, I would wear it. If it was warm, I'd wear it. Why shouldn't
I wear it just because I'm on holiday? Where I feel at home, and it is
usually warm! :')
Surely the fact that someone might see a couple of football shirts and decide to go elsewhere, says more about the judgement/prejudice of said people? The people in the football shirts could be some of the nicest people you could meet. For example, my dad (who is 50) often wears his Everton shirt, he has never been in trouble in his life. Granted, I take the point that there are a lot of Richards (See what I did there? :P ) that are troublemakers etc, but we can't base our view of EVERYONE in a football shirt, on them. |

First of all I am an avid football fan but I tend to regard teamshirts as being for matchdays only, wherever you are, and not as everyday wear.
That's why my England shirt only travels with me on holiday if there is a game on while I am away |

'Boro have had Strachan after Celtic - then Mowbray after Celtic - by my reckoning you'll be expecting delivery of a certain Mr Neil Lennon in the not too distant future. Wait till he arrives! Totally barking with paranoia oozing from every pore. Good luck with that!

Well said old bean. Prejudice is prejudice, even if we don't realise we are doing it ( and we all do, from time to time ). |

I am not predudiced nor am I a bigot, but experience tells me to stay well clear of a bar full of punters with football shirts on. I was in a mates house one night and his whole house was decorated in his football teams colours, i.e. curtains, carpet , bed covers, wallpaper and him and his wife had football nightwear. It was like shrine to his footie team. I dont mind people wearing footie gear to a football game but what i ask is the point of wearing a football strip on holiday. It is just asking for an argument i.e. just like the one in this thread. |

Maybe it's a Scottish thing. There can be an unpleasant subtext to football here that I would rather not meet abroad.
Avril, I could do with a new handbag too, a nice red to go with the sunburn on my bald head. |

Ally, look up prejudiced in the dictionary...
It's not a Scots thing, it's a Celtic / Rangers thing Jock, let's not beat about the bush. I have found the absolute opposite, and have made some good friendships with people I have initially started talking to because we were both football fans. Mind you, as a Charlton fan, my shirt usually elicits looks of sympathy more than anything else...
