Wow Ste thats a ridiculous price for just 3 of you, one wonders whether other people will pay that price,  if not  will Monarch reduce them to a reasonable level when they arn't getting any bookings.
I've just checked for mid September, 2 of us 1 hold bag. Jet2 £368 they are £27 cheaper than Monarch, and Ryanair is the dearest @ £407.  I shall wait, I am sure prices will come down when they aint got no customers. We have never paid more than £270 on previous September travels.
The flights in May have reduced by £100 on what we paid with booking early as apposed to booking last week. Hope same thing happens for September flights

Lol Dicey...No.  you would think so with that cost. i looked at the prices back in December and they were expensive then, so i thought i'd wait a little to see the prices drop, nope they have done the opposite and rose. i booked the exact same flights, same seats, same dates as last year and the prices were just about acceptable but the price has nearly double from the same time last year....Angry Currently looking at JET2.

Something must be wrong there Steve, that's stupid money!
We are backwards and forwards in July and August, and our daughters, and my parents, something like 14 return flights between us in those months and none of them are stupid money, and all Monarch out of, and into, Birmingham.

What I can't get my head round is how they come to these prices! Surely two seats on the same flight should cost the same obviously supply and demand is a factor but should it be? Its not like you walk into top shop and buy jeans for 40 quid and then the next customer pays 50 for the same product so how can airlines justify this approach?

Andrew, i kid you not, Pic attached is the lowest price we could get using flight only, the other offers ie: essential or premium even dearer.

Ah but you were going to save £45.

Seriously though, that is way over the top & we'd never pay anything near those sort of prices.

Have you considered Seville Steve? El Birnn has flown there from Holland in the height of summer and saved a bundle, even with paying for someone to pick him up and drop him off?

Saturday air travel to holiday destinations has always been horribly expensive and even more so in summer. Law of supply and demand, captive audience That's how they can offer £9.99 fares at other times.

(Personal gripe - Air France has cancelled its Lisbon - Bordeaux route on which I was booked to travel in July and now I have to go via Paris and arrive 3 hours later. No explanation given. Easyjet not an option as they don't fly on the dates I want to travel.)

A lot cheaper with Jet2 for those dates £1295.88 with bags & online checkin, but selected seats are extra.

Jeeeezzzzz.. that's beyond the pail Steve, I'm not surprised you didn't book it but, seeing as Monarch are no fools, someone must be paying it!
Either that or it's virtually a full flight and with so much time to go to sell the last few seats they can chance their arm, always able to drop the price steadily as time ticks away if no takers.

Easyjet Luton, same dates/passengers - £1,325.94

Easyjet Luton (same passenegers) but going out on 17th July and returning 10th August it's only £552.93

So basically it's costing just under £800 to travel at weekends

Steve,
Monarch, those dates, two adults, one child, but Birmingham in-lieu of Manchester is £1078.44.
£800 to get you to & from Birmingham (an hour from Manchester) sounds good to me!
