Hi, I think that there is something funny going on at the Post office in Albufeira. I take letters there regularly and,for the same size envelope nd the same weight, I am charged different prices. Is it because I'm a Brit?

Like UK, different speeds like 1st and 2nd class. Check which one you are paying for. 1st is known as 'rapide'

Yes Pete,I know about the different classes of postage but,for the same size envelope bearing one sheet of paper, I have been charged from 79 cents to €1.20and each time I said that standard post would be fine . That's why I posed the question.

Probably nothing to do with being a Brit.
More likely to be because this is Portugal
I hate how peopleï compare Frank Zappa to God. I mean, he's cool and great and nice and everything, but he's no Zappa.

There is a surcharge for 'coloured ' envelopes as the automated machines cannot read the address so has to be manually sorted

Phil, just buy half a dozen standard stamps for the UK. Stick them on yourself and put them in the letterbox. We do it for envelopes of all shapes, sizes, colours and with letters or cards in them. Never had a problem yet.

Many thanks, due to the fact that I have only lived here since early February, I have never thought of that.
