And old distillery. I wonder what was produced there?

The blues in the sky (and therefore the sea) show the fab weather that continues on and on. When it breaks, lets hope that it is not too dramatic.

I believe the distillery produced the almond liqueur 'Amarguinha' but don't quote me on that. or maybe it was medronho?

Definitely a distillery Tom? I had been told it was a 'fig factory', not sure why you need a factory for figs though! Maybe that was at another time.
I do wonder why the chimney is still standing.

Think the chimney was left as a landmark/reminder but maybe would have been more logical to put a plaque on said chimney explaining its history?

I thought that all the chimneys were listed buildings because they are nesting sites for storks. Although the gulls seem to chase away any that try to nest in the old town.

Here's an old picture with chimney on, and the building which was either a factory or a distillery/brewery according to the above, or maybe both at different times.
Another interesting pic though.

Is that the GNR station facing the factory? & wonder if the building with all the windows next to it on the right is the original local town hall.

I think the original town hall was the building next to Sol E Mar which has had a 'for sale' on it for aeons. Hotel California sits where you can see the shrubbery on the hill slope, more or less in the centre of the picture and just by the top of the chimney is the building with the red roof at the end of 'bar street' which was highlighted in the other item.

Cerro Mar in the background, top right.

I will fish around to see if I have the equivalent present-day view. if not, I will see if I can get one over the weekend.

Tom,
I have two other pictures, a view not far from where this was taken, several years apart and several years ago. They are very interesting and I was saving posting them until Easter as I intended to do as you say above, find the spot and get a modern day comparison.
If you fancy that I can post them and let you match them with an up to date one, or leave it and I'll do it at Easter?

The lady standing in the street at the bottom right looks like she is waiting for The Gold Spot to open, if I have my bearings right.

could have been the madame herself...used to be the first house of pleasure in the algarve..called moulin rouge..and was operating from 1925 to 1949...think the picture is from that period..give or take a few years
