Silves 0 - 0 Imortal bit lucky to be honest. Two outstanding saves from Pereira and two horrendous misses by Silves and Imortal's third draw in a row. More later.

SILVES 0 - 0 IMORTAL ALBUFEIRA
As i said, a game that Imortal should have lost by three or four. Two outstanding saves by Pereira and two terrible misses from Silves denied them all three points. They were not to know that leaders and rivals Ferreiras, who kicked off an hour later, were going to lose, they must have been kicking themselves when that result came through. Silves ground boasts a new roof to the stand, replacing the one blown away by the tornado in 2012. It was a windy day, there were a few spots of rain. The synthetic grass pitch looked fine. Both sides began the game a series of long range but very inaccurate shots. Imortal had a rare chance ten minutes in when a horrendous error by the Silves goalkeeper presented the bal to Cassiano on the edge of the penalty area. The 'keeper recovered in time to save his shot, the rebound fell to Oliveira who steered it just wide of the far post. Silves worked to increase the pressure on Imortal's defence, which did look uncertain at times. A couple of chances came their way, one was almost kneed in. Silves in black shirts. then the first of Pereira's fine saves kept them at bay. Imortal were rarely down the other end. One one raid, Tidjeane was harshly booked for diving but there was not a shot on target. Silves came out for the second half firing on all cylinders. Imortal were under pressure for the whole period. Defence was desperate at times. The start of the half was marred by a clash of heads that left a player from each side requiring lengthy attention. Imortal's midfielder Maia, who had come on as subn at half time, had to leave the field and be subbed himself. Silves attacked constantly, loud and prolonged claims on the hour for a penalty were rewarded with yellow cards. The second of Pereira's great saves was shortly followed by a point blank miss, should have scored. The crowd were muttering and groaning about poor passing and worse finishing. Pereira, in blue, dealt well with the crosses. Imortal managed just a couple of wayward shots, but a chance came in nine minutes of added time when Cassiano had a shot blocked, the rebound fell to Oliveira who could not make up his mind what to do and eventually lost the ball. Imortal have no game this Easter weekend. Next game is on Saturday 7th April, at home to Lagos and kickoff will be at the normal April time of 1600hrs / 4pm. Looking ahead to the cup semi final, this will be a home game for Imortal against Almancilense from the national 3rd Tier, Wednesday 25th April the Liberation Day holiday, kickoff time to be advised. Match stats Free kicks conceded : Imortal 20, Silves 10 (this after the opening 13 minutes with none!) Imortal 0 - 1 Lagos
Definitely an end of season feel, with neither team in contention for the one promotion place. Chances were few and far between, Imortal's front line in particular wasted a couple of good ones. It was a windy day but dry, mercifully, after recent weeks. Both sides had a bit of pressure early, winning corners but not doing anything with them. Lagos were awarded the first free kick after fourteen minutes but totally messed it up. The visitors gradually got into the game, but to no effect in terms of goalscoring opportunities. Towards the end Imortal's forward Paollo Oliveira did create a couple of shots, the first was well saved down low and the second shot did go in but was disallowed for offside. Goal-less at half time. Lagos started the second half well, winning two corners in the first minute. Imortal survived that, making a chance of their own when a free kick by Rodrigues was well blocked by defenders. Ten minutes in a concerted spell of pressure by Lagos was rewarded when a series of three shots was first cleared off the line by Rodrigues, a second shot was blocked but the rebound fell to Texeira who blasted home from the edge of the penalty area. Imortal responded, Elvis had a good effort go just over the bar. Tidjeane won a race to get to a loose ball but his control let him down just a little and the goalkeeper was able to come off his line and gather the ball safely. Somehow the referee found five minutes of added time. During that spell, Tijdeane had one the rare shots on target but it was weak and easily saved. Lagos for their part should have scored with Imortal's defence giving the ball away and then with the last kick Cascalvo could have grabbed a point, but his free kick was smothered by the 'keeper. Match stats Free kicks conceded : Imortal 16, Lagos 11 Offside : Imortal 1, Lagos 4 Shots on target : Imortal 4, Lagos 3 Shots off target : Imortal 7, Lagos 5 Shots blocked : Imortal 4, Lagos 4 Corners : Imortal 7, Lagos 7 Yellow cards : Imortal 1, Lagos 2 Imortal's next game is away at Ferreiras next Saturday at 4pm / 1600hrs. Ferreiras are still stop but are now indulging a repeat of losing every game at the end of the season. |

Interesting that the Lisbon Police can look after the three biggest clubs in the country and Beleneses in the same city on the same day.

Liverpool police had the Grand National and Liverpool at the same time for the first time ever I read. But few away fans travel here, even for a local derby, but the guns, water cannon, long batons and tear gas (which UK police cannot use) remain a deterrent to bad behaviour. |

Shows how much Sky know about football before the Premier League was invented! Anyway, match report from Saturday.
FERREIRAS 2 - 2 IMORTAL Attendance 270 approx. Imortal in red. Imortal frustrated Ferreiras to the nth degree in a fairly typical local derby. The two sides managed only seven shots on target between them, there were the four goals, neither goalkeeper was otherwise really tested. Yellow cards aplenty, especially in the second half and Imortal's late equaliser resulted in the dismissal of Ferreiras defender Colação. Imortal were without the services of captain and centre back Pedro Rodrigues, for reasons as yet unknown. That caused a change around in defence, however whatever number 15 Elvis may be as a player, he is not a commanding and ball winning centre half. And it showed early on. Ferreiras went ahead in the second minute, a swift move through the middle ended by with a shot from Jorge Correira from ten metres. After that, the game settled in the midfield battle it was for almost the entire match. Up and down it went. A combination of reasonable, no risk, defence and terrible passes kept the number of shots to a minimum. Imortal gradually improved and were rewarded ten minutes before half time when a hopeful pass fell nicely for Mateus on the corner of the penalty area. He was alert enough to heft it first time towards goal, 'keeper Borges wasn't quite quick enough with his reaction and the ball sailed past him into the far corner - pic below. The second half began in the same manner. Both sides scrapping. It was becoming a little tetchy. Then, after twelve minutes, a horrible give-away by Baldé on half way gave Ferrieras an opening. Several passes later, Correia was on hand again to side foot past Pereira in the Imortal goal to restore the home side's advantage. But it was not to be improved on. The misplaced passes brought groans from the crowd, made worse by the news that title rivals Silves were losing. The game ground on, Ferreiras were getting nowhere. The tetchiness increased, four Imortal players saw yellow including goalkeeper and Captain for the day Pereira, who ran half the length of the pitch to offer his thoughts to the ref after a fairly nasty challenge. The Ferreiras player was booked as well. Imortal had the better of the scant chances on offer, China was just wide with a nice little chip shot and Cassiano hit a post from distance. Oliveira had a shot painfully blocked, China hit the rebound straight at the´keeper. Five minutes of added time were announced. Imortal continued to press, reward came from a scramble in the penalty area and Tidjeane (number 10 below) lurking on the edge was on hand to come forward and toe poke it into the net. Cue wild celebrations on the one hand, much muttering on the other which finished with Colação's sending off. We are halfway through the second phase. Imortal have drawn four and lost one of their five games, so we are going nowhere. Defeat though for Silves leaves Ferreiras three points ahead of them at the top. Next Saturday Imortal travel to Quarteirense, while Ferreiras host Lagos who beat Silves on Saturday. Match stats Free kicks conceded : Imortal 11, Ferreiras 19 Offside : Imortal 2, Ferreiras 1 Shots on target : Imortal 5, Ferreiras 2 Shots off target : Imortal 2, Ferreiras 3 Shots blocked : Imortal 1, Ferreiras 1 Corners : Imortal 2, Ferreiras 3 (yes it was that kind of game!) Yellow cards : Imortal 6, Ferreiras 2 Red Cards : Ferreiras 1 |

Off topic but mentioned earlier and I will add it here anyway, the crowd at Belenses v Sporting on Sunday was 5167, about double their normal crowd but the stadium was only just over a third full. I would imagine that 815pm on a Sunday night isn't the most popular time to go and watch football, even here.

Yesterday, Quarteirense 1 - 0 Imortal I was unable to go owing to lack of buses Vilamoura to Albufeira at 6pm on a Saturday. Would have gone if we were top of the table, but not with a 90 minute wait for a bus when we are not going to be in the frame.
Next game is of course the Algarve Cup semi final on Wednesday (Liberation Day holiday) at 1600hrs / 4pm. See you there. |

ALGARVE CUP SEMI FINAL
Imortal 3 - 4 Almancilense Not a full report as usual as I was in company with drink being consumed. A see-saw game in which Imortal clawed their way back from 3-1 down to 3-3 only to be denied by a unlucky own goal near the end. Imortal were again lacking captain and centre half Rodrigues and again it showed. The makeshift defence was shredded twice during the first half, giving the visitors a 2-0 lead (including a penalty) after a good start by Imortal. Imortal did have chances but they were not taken, chief culprits, they were to be throughout the game, were Cassiano and Oliveira who were not decisive enough when it came to taking a shot. Imortal pulled one back right on half time, an expertly taken free kick by Cascalvo from the corner of the penalty area beat the very tall figure of Gabriel in the visitors goal. 2-1 at half time and a glimmer of hope. Didn't last long as Almancilense restored their lead with Imortal's defence caught on the break. But, to their credit, Imortal came back into the game and another free kick by Cascalvo from 20 metres out was lofted over the wall and just out of the 'keeper's reach. Pressure continued and was rewarded with a penalty given for handball. Some debate over who should take it, captain for the day goalkeeper Pereira gave the ball to Tidjeane, who scored nicely from the spot. Chances fell to both teams, Pereira had to make two good saves while at the other end Chico rattled the crossbar with an excellent shot from distance. He had earlier been the victim of a very poor challenge which resulted in a red card for the offender. Imortal did manage to exploit the numerical difference, but twice Oliveira failed to shoot when clear on goal and Cassiano muffed another shot from close range. Time was running out when Pereira was adjudged to have handled the ball outside his area. The free kick was looped in to the far post, hit the post past Pereira's dive, then struck the back of his head on the ground and rebounded into the net. 4-3 to Almancilense, who then shut up shop to wind down the clock. A disappointing end to what was otherwise a good value game for €2! |

Imortal 1 - 0 Messinense - Imortal's first win in the second phase at the seventh attempt. An untidy end of season affair livened up by a well worked late winning goal. Report tomorrow.
