I'd say the other way around Gazza. The haphazard nature of the depth and length of each step made going down an adventure of it's own, even sober. I used to glide back up after a tincture or two... :-D

That would be the “go” and “ rise” my friend! Trust me, I was a staircase manufacturer,

Every occupation has it's own jargon. Useful shorthand to the initiated and excludes the rest.
My favourite example is Magdalene (as in Mary M.) college being pronounced Maudlin.

Jock, another interesting one, I did a course at Brasenose Oxford, pronounced Braze nose, same spelling Cambridge college is pronounced Brazen.
