As Cubsur says, the bottom set of escalators were working the other day but today the top 2 are still not working and only the up one at the bottom is going. Bit of tweaking required me thinks.

On a brighter note, we now have a restaurant open on the badly damaged road heading down to the escalators. The Peccati di Gola. It's the Italian one up near The Bank.

As for Bank itself, no sign of anything much happening there.

Men were hard at work yesterday putting up new awnings etc at Buddy's, Bravo and Pampas, the big tourist eateries in the square. Looks like they will be open any time now and ready for the Christmas and New year trade.

I think enough progress has been made for the entertainment to stay at Fishermans beach. Probably only find out for sure when the building starts on the stage which should be soon.

The square is starting to look back to normal with new planting below the tree and a couple of new summer seats. With it being 21 degrees in the square yesterday there was not a spare seat to be had in Sir Harrys.

Also open last night for the first time were Urban Pizza and JC Bar. And the cash machine down there is working again.

Three of the four escalators were working, top down was not.

Arrived yesterday and really impressed with the clean up. Credit to whoever got this sorted but they have done fantastic job in the last couple of weeks. We were in the square tonight and you really would be hard pressed to tell anything had happened. Lots of bars closed and work going on but in my experience it's like that at this time of year anyway. Here is photo from earlier this evening of the square.

The road repair is almost done. Half of it has now been tarmaced, the other half will I am certain be done today. A few lines to be painted and it's finished.

The bus and taxi area has been cleared of materiel and equipment. Taxis were waiting there last night. Buses won't be able to get there until the road is open, but any day now.

I'm impressed by how quickly the council has dealt with this emergency.
Have the utility companies been working along with them or will they come along and dig up the road to plant their cables etc.?
It is no coincidence that in no known language does the phrase 'As pretty as an Airport' appear. Douglas Adams

"Have the utility companies been working along with them or will they come along and dig up the road to plant their cables etc.?"

Certainly the electricity and phone companies were working from the off along the top end of the Avenida Liberdade to replace their ducting and cables. These were under the road and completely destroyed. That's why it has taken nearly seven weeks. Water mains and sewers were also wrecked. These were replaced before the road surface was being graded and rolled last week.

I am going to take a look down there later.

Further down in town, council contractors have been fitting larger slot drains along the flat bit. Various other drains have been replaced with bigger ones.

There only thing that is not being done is unblocking the ditches alongside the Avenida dos Descobrimentos coming down the hill  from the Dolphins. They are completely clogged up with rocks and clay, so next time it rains hard water will flow down the road towards town and not into the drains.

The top end of Avenida da Liberdade is now resurfaced although there are no road markings as yet. Traffic is passing as it was before the flood. Open as usual also is the surface car park plus the coach drop-off, bus stops and taxi area. No-one has told the GIRO bus drivers though. They are still missing that stop.

Down in town all street work is finished.

Along the Avenida 25 de Abril one or two more places (Urban Pizza, Piccadilly Bar) are open, but the supermarkets and other shops are not and show no signs of being open any time soon.

Pictures later.

Everything on the streets is looking good, so this will be the last flood report.

Some restaurants and shops have not re-opened but for most it is now business as usual.
