Thanks for those pictures. Ferreiras is indeed a neat ground and generally a good setup. A shame they were relegated and no longer play on Sundays as that was a nice change every now and then from the dross on TV! Imortal's game there is at the end of February.

Attention Mr Cubsur.

Here is a small compilation of pics I put together which I took
on our afternoon out in Faro to watch Farense host Portimonense
at the Estadio S.Luis back on Sept 30th.

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEK'S GAMES

SEGUNDA LIGA

Farense 1 - 0 Benfica B att 1147 played Saturday evening.
Gil Vicente 3 - 0 Olhanense att 606
Portimonense 0 - 3 Famalicão only 324 braved yesterday's storm in the uncovered stadium. I will bet the 20 cops were still there. Management is predictably raging against the referee's decision to continue the game in farcical conditions.

Portimonense remain in 2nd place, Farense are 15th and Olhanense drop to 19th.

There is a programme of matches on Wednesday afternoon but not everyone is involved.

Portimonense will visit Benfica B but the matches involving Farense and Olhanense have been rescheduled to 14th November as they are no longer in the FA Cup.

Weekend 7th / 8th November

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEKEND'S GAMES

Segunda Liga

One result from Wednesday afternoon

Benfica B 3 - 2 Portimonense att 344

Sunday results

Farense 2 - 0 Vítoria Guimarães B att 829
Feirense 1 - 0 Olhanense att 876
Portimonense 1 - 1 Leixões att unknown

Portimonense slip to sixth place. But as the top two teams are FC Porto B and Sporting B respectively, who cannot be promoted, the real race for promotion has only 3 points separating the teams from 3rd to 8th place. Farense climb to 9th, Olhanense drop to 21st and into the relegation zone.

Next SATURDAY at 1600hrs / 4pm

Olhanense v Mafra

Farense and Portimonense will be away.

Off topic, but those who follow football will be interested. Fans of Sporting CP (Lisbon) held a protest at their game on Sunday over the kickoff time and cost of tickets. They played away at Arouca at 20.30hrs on Sunday, obviously because of TV. Tickets for visiting fans were €30 (about £23). Arouca is 300km or about 195 miles from Lisbon. Some trip to do on a Sunday night, obviously by car or hired coach and not getting home until around 1.30am.

The attendance was 3,156 in a tiny stadium that was less than 2/3rds full. Sporting won 1-0 with a last minute goal, so at least the few who bothered went home happy.

CAMPEONATO NACIONAL SENIORES FIRST PHASE GROUP H

Lusitano VRSA    1-6    Moura
Almancilense    0-0    Pinhalnovense
Castrense 0-1    At. Reguengos
Louletano 2-3    Juventude Évora
Cova da Piedade    3-1    Barreirense

Almancilense rise to 5th in this ten team group and are four points behind leaders Cova da Piedade. Lusitano VRSA drop to 6th while Louletano are 9th.

Next Sunday in the Algarve at 1500hrs / 3pm

Louletano v Cova da Piedade
Almancilense v At. Reguengos
Lusitano VRSA v Pinhalnovense

ALGARVE LEAGUE DIVISION ONE

Quarteira    1-2    Culatrense
GD Lagoa 5-1    Padernense
Moncarapachense    1-0    Guia
Silves    2-0    Faro e Benfica
Monchiquense    2-0    Odiáxere
11 Esperanças    1-4    Armacenenses
Imortal Albufeira    2-3    Esp. Lagos
Ferreiras    2-1    Quarteirense

A third successive defeat for Imortal sees them drop to eighth.

Paderne are 12th and Guia 15th after what was a bad day for our local teams. Lagoa are leaders with 15 points and a game in hand, but only on goal difference over Quarteirense and Armacanenses.

Next Saturday at 3pm / 1500hrs except at Guia

Padernense    v    Moncarapachense
Guia    v    Silves    ko 1600hra
Faro e Benfica v    Monchiquense    at Horta da Areia, faro
Odiáxere    v 11 Esperanças
Armacenenses    v    Imortal Albufeira
Esp. Lagos    v    Ferreiras
Culatrense v Quarteirense    at Penha, Faro
Quarteira    v    GD Lagoa

ALGARVE LEAGUE DIVISION TWO

4 ao Cubo 2 - 3 Mexhiloeira Grande
Aljezur 6 - 0 Ferreiras B

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEKEND'S GAMES - updated

Segunda Liga

Portimonense 1 - 0 Olhanense att 1214 their biggest crowd of the season by around 350. Not a particularly good game overall, but the goal was textbook stuff. A corner in the 72nd minute, flicked on at the near post for leading scorer Pires to power in past a static defence and send an unstoppable header in from six yards.

They could and should have scored more, but woeful passing and poor finishing let them down. To be fair, there were also a couple of good saves from the Olhanense 'keeper.

Farense 0 - 0 Varzim att 915

That's three draws and two wins for Farense in their last five games, they are now 11th with 23 points from 17 games. Portimonense are 5th with 28 points, and effectively one point off the promotion places given that two of the four teams above them are B teams (of Porto and Sporting respectively) who cannot be promoted. Olhanense are 15th.

Seems like Farense looking for a new manager again. Heard Jorge Paixao has left.

Yes I heard that too last night. Disagreements with the board they say. Recent performances have been described as 'weak' and 'without heart'.

Perhaps having a squad of 49 players of whom 25 have played this season has something to do with it. They don't have a B team any more so what on earth does all this cost to have 31 players sitting around doing nothing every week?

Yesterday's afternoon's Segunda Liga Results

Porto B 4 - 3 Farense att 359. Farense were 2-0 up after 7 minutes, 2-1 up with 18 minutes left, had a player sent off then conceded three times in ten minutes.

Vítoria Guimarães B 0 - 1 Portimonense att 631. A good win that keeps Portimonense among the promotion hopefuls.

Olhanense 1 - 0 Oriental att unknown. I went to that one, I'd say about 400 were inside. It's pretty dire there, the ground is fairly shabby, there is literally only one door to get in and out, so it's one at a time. The pitch is in a not very good condition with bare patches. Nether side has a shirt sponsor , so it's pretty basic stuff.

The only goal of the game was a penalty on 72 minutes. Olhanense did have a couple of other good chances but fluffed them

The crowd, like most here, was very quiet for the most part reserving their voices for any incident when a player went to ground in tackle, yelling for cards etc and also any time a bad pass was made or a shot missed. There was plenty of both for them to get riled about.

The audience was mostly grey haired, after all at 3pm on a Wednesday most are at work. Olhanense fans are less troublesome than those in Portimão. Only a dozen armed police and half a dozen security guards were needed to control the unruly masses. An easy afternoon for them, lounging around in the sunshine!

The results put Olhanense up to 10th, above Farense who slip to 15th. But only five points separate 6th from 20th

A couple of pictures from that game on Wednesday afternoon.

The penalty. Spot the cheapskates at the top looking through the unused 'away' turnstile entrance!

The ground in general, showing the state of the pitch and the cheap seats. Some may recall that a couple of seasons ago the League banned Olhanense from using their ground because of the pitch.
