LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEK'S GAMES
Liga NOS Portimonense 1 - 1 Moreirense att 2493. Portimonense remain next to bottom with 15 points from 21 games and thus in the relegation zone. Significantly, there is a six point gap between them and Belenseses in 15th place. The bottom three are cut adrift as it were. And there can be no hope for Portimonense to pick up any points in their next game. That will be away to FC Porto next Sunday night, 830pm kickoff. (Why don't the English Premier League play at 8pm on a Sunday night? That way another game can be live on TV.) Liga PRO Farense 3 - 1 Oliveirense att 3889. A welcome win for Farense, who are in second place on 41 points behind Nacional who have 43. Their next game will be on Friday night, away at Villafranquensa (based in the central town of Rio Maior) and followed on the 29th by yet another Saturday morning game demanded by TV. Campeonato de Portugal group D Results and fixtures for Algarve teams Louletano 1 - 0 Sintrense Real SC 3 - 0 Armacanenses Lagos 2 -1 Olhanense That defeat drops Olhanense to second place and they are now only two points clear of Alverca and Louletano, third and fourth respectively. Lagos rise to 10th while Armacanenses fall to 11th. Next Sunday in the Algarve, both at 1500hrs / 3pm Olhanense v Club Sintra Football Armancanenses v Aljustrelense Lagos and Louletano will be away. ALGARVE LEAGUE DIVISION ONE FIRST PHASE Quarteira 1 - 2 Culatrense Imortal Albufeira 1 - 0 Moncarapachense Louletano B 2 - 2 Ferreiras Silves 4 - 1 Almancil Guia 0 - 2 Lagoa 11 Esperanças 4 - 1 Lusitano VRSA There are three games to go in the first phase, when the league splits into two groups of six for the second phase. League table - Next Saturday allegedly at 1500hrs / 3pm Lusitano VRSA v Silves Moncarapachense v Guia Lagoa v Cultarense 11 Esperanças v Quarteira at Penha, Faro Ferreiras v Imortal Albufeira Almancil v Louletano B ALGARVE LEAGUE DIVISION TWO Carvoeiro United 2 - 3 Campinese Mentes Desporto 1 -1 Sambrasense Quarteirense 4 - 0 Paderne Quarteirense 1937 0 - 0 Messinense Sharks United 0 - 3 Internacional Almancil Odiáxere 4 -1 Marítimo Olhanense apparently played on Sunday 4 ao Cubo v Ass. Farense postponed, reason unknown. Ass. Farense lead the way with 42 points then come Messinense with 33 then Quarteirense 1937 and Odiáxere both with 30. Sharks United were fined only €180 at last week's disciplinary meeting. Lofters reported from their game on Saturday " Sharks overall weren't as bad as I had expected ….. averaging 5 per game conceded they sturdily hung on to 0-1 until the last ten minutes. Even created one or two nearly moments. They had a few booked plus one sent off [together with one of Almancil´s], so the Euros will be charged. If they get charged for an unfilled bench I suspect that might have been the case too. They don't lack for effort but are disorganised for the level they are playing at. Not much up front as befits their record and they had a tendency at times to tackle each other rather than the oppo. Remind me a bit of how Mentes were a few seasons back. There were a few supporters for each team in that stand. By the end they were at each other incessantly ….. has to be said the worst were screaming women. There was an immaculately dressed chap wandering to and fro, supporting the Sharks …… he kept quiet but when the goals went in he was obviously livid ….. my money would be on him being the bankroll man." Sharks seem to have no registered coach nor bench staff, basically a load of blokes turning up just to play. Most of their fines are for late paperwork etc but they are often late turning up, they use unregistered players and at least three times have not turned up at all. Earlier Mentes Desporto were denied a rare win by a last minute penalty. More sendings off and bookings there to read about next Friday morning. Next Saturday's fixtures Carvoeiro United v Sharks United at Estombar ko 1500hrs / 3pm Ass Farense v Odiáxere at Penha, ko 1715hrs / 5.15pm Marítimo Olhanense v Quarteirense ko 1715hrs at Olhão Municipal Stadium Campinense v Quarteirense 1937 at Loulé Municipal Stadium Messinense v Mentes Desporto Paderne v Internacional Almancil Sambrasense v 4 ao Cubo ALGARVE CUP SECOND ROUND Wednesday 19th at 2030hrs really clever to have them on a Champions League night Cularense v Ass Farense venue unknown - not shown on either official website! ALGARVE CUP QUARTER FINALS Wednesday 19th at 2030hrs Louletano v Carvoeiro United at Loulé Municipal Stadium Moncarapachense v Ferreiras Lagos v Mentes Desporto The winner of the delayed second round tie will be at home to Armacanenses on 4th March. WOMEN'S FOOTBALL NATIONAL LEAGUE DIVISION TWO GROUP H Final games of the first phase will be played next Saturday for some mysterious reason. Guia will be away. |

LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEK'S GAMES
Liga Nos FC Porto 1 - o Portimonense att 40,129. An 87th minute winner for FC Porto condemns Portimonense to remain next to bottom. Two goals by Scottish U-21 player Ryan Gauld helped Farense to a good win. He is now on a two year contract at Farense. LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEK'S GAMES
A grim week for Portuguese football with all three teams, Benfica, Sporting and Braga being eliminated from the Europa League. Liga Nos Portimonense 0 - 0 Vítoria Setubal att 2522. It is 11 league games since Portimonense's last win and their position at the foot of the table is starting to look pretty hopeless. They are 17th of 18 teams with a six point gap above them. Their next game will be on Friday night away at Braga, a game in which they are unlikely to get any joy. Liga Pro Farense 3 -1 Viseu att 3524. A useful win for Farense which keeps them in second place, only on goal difference, behind Nacional who drew. They are eight points ahead of their chasers. Local news reported that, after a poor first half, the game came to life early in the second half when Australian Anthony Carter put Viseu ahead. That was quickly cancelled out with a penalty converted by Farense's Scottish player Ryan Gauld. He went on to complete his hat-trick, including a second penalty. Farense's next game is not until next Monday night, away at Leixões. Campeonato de Portugal Group D results and fixtures for Algarve teams Lusitano Évora 1 - 3 OIlhanense Lagos 0 - 1 Sintrense Louletano 3 - 2 Armacanenses Olhanense are second, two points behind leaders Real SC. Louletano are fourth, Armacanenses 10th and Lagos 12th. Next Sunday in the Algarve Olhanense v Olimpico Montijo ko 1400hrs / 2pm Armacanenses v Club Sintra Football ko 1500hrs / 3pm Louletano will be playing away in a very unusual midweek game at Real SC on Friday night. Lagos will be travelling on Sunday to play Oriental Lisboa. Lusitano are bottom with only four points. With one game remaining in the first phase, Moncarapachense lead with 46 points from 21 games, then come Louletano B with 40, third are Ferreiras on 38. Lagoa, 11 Esperanças and Imnortal are tied on 33 points. Imortal are 7th and to finish in the top six, need to win next week while hoping that one of the other two drop points. NEXT SATURDAY AT 1500 hrs / 3pm Imortal Albufeira v Lusitano VRSA Moncarapachense v Lagoa 11 Esperanças v Louletano B at Penha, Faro Quarteira v Silves Ferreiras v Culatrense Almancil v Guia ALGARVE LEAGUE SECOND DIVISION 4 ao Cubo 5 - 2 Messinense Internacional Almancil 3 - 0 Marítimo Olhanense Quarteirense 0 - 5 Ass Farense Quarteirense 1937 1 - 0 Carvoeiro United Sharks United v Paderne postponed, was apparently to be played at Paderne and re-arranged for Wednesday11th March Mentes do Desporto v Campinense postponed Odíaxere v Sambrasense result nowhere to be found Ass Farense maintain their 100% record and are top of the League by 12 points and a game in hand, above Messinense and Quarteirense both of whom contrived to lose against lesser opposition. LAST WEEKEND'S RESULTS NEXT WEEK'S GAMES

In addition, all games in the top two divisions (for the Algarve that means Portimonense and Farense) will be played behind closed doors. Third tier matches (Campeonato de Portugal) will go ahead as usual for the time being, but with attendance limited to maximum 5,000. Won't be an issue as few teams even get 500.

ALL football in Portugal is now suspended until further notice. Many teams here play in stadiums owned by local councils which have decided to close them.

The PFA has formally announced that the third tier of national football, the Campeonato de Portugal, has been terminated with positions 'as they were' at the time the last game was played. Olhanense have objected as they had a chance of finishing top of their league. They are demanding a playoff at some point before next season begins.

Copy pf post made elsewhere earlier : On Tuesday there will be an EGM of the Portuguese league management
to discuss the possible resumption and conclusion of the 2019 / 2020
football season (for the top two leagues only) that will be permitted
from 29th May. Correction / update - it seems
that the LPF has already decided that the second league will not be
completed. The 'current' leaders Nacional and Farense are expected to be
promoted to the Liga NOS (top level) to replace the two relegated from
that if and when it finishes. |

Toms update has come to pass …… Farense have announced today that they have been promoted to Liga 1. At this point I can find nothing regarding Portimonense, who are leading candidates for relegation from 1. Maybe the FA will elect to expand the top division by not sending any teams down.

Portugal FA confirmed yesterday that Nacional and Farense will be promoted from Liga Pro, which will not resume. Clubs in Liga pro will receive a small financial compensation in respect of revenue in unplayed matches. Two teams will be relegated from Liga Pro to be replaced by the two best performing teams from the suspended third tier based on %age at the time it was stopped. Thus Olhanense miss out by the slenderest of margins. However, the meeting yesterday also confirmed that the Liga NOS will resume and they intend to complete the fixtures, so relegation at the moment would still be on the cards. The top league was only recently reduced from 20 to 18 teams so going back to 20 probably won't happen as it merely adds several more meaningless games to the season. The final stages of the Portugal FA Cup are also planned to be completed.
