Cars have been parking under them to shade them from the sun.

They're still not commissioned?
They can plug them into our place if they want! LOL! |

Indeed it is. Gradually falling into ruin, building having been abandoned five years ago.
It amazes but doesn't surprise me that the construction companies are seemingly never penalised for leaving these half built sites to become derelict. They are all over the place. |

They must have some money, to waste it on unfinished projects like that

This may sound too simplistic but wouldn't it be more cost effective for a Company to move in and finish a project like the Crown Plaza rather than start a new one from scratch ?

I've often thought so too but there are too many unknowns. The original developer may still own the site or have long term aims of completion when the financial climate improves. I would have thought some planning incentives could be offered to new developers to take over unfinished sites rather than new ones. |

Common sense Big Col, but its something the Camara (council) seem to lack the knowledge of.

I heard yesterday that the Camara is going to try to force the owners of these sites to remedy them. But don't hold your breath, big business is more powerful than a local council.

Back in 2011 when we stayed in a villa above this Crowne Plaza site the window and door openings on the Rua do Cerro Grande, just up from the Arte Bar, were sealed.
They aren't sealed on Google Streetview (which is 2009) and that suggested to me that at least part of the site was mothballed with a view to revisiting it in better times. Of course they may not be sealed now......... |

There's something going on at Farm Village, down by the marina. An extra crane has appeared but I cannot quite see from there what they are doing.
