It looks like Tom's having a "funny turn" in image 2. Not exciting enough on the pitch for the GNR to take his eyes off his phone, image 21.

We don't often see the GNR in among the crowd, they normally stand down at pitch side. They must have sensed the possibility of trouble from visiting Viking hordes!

No comment about picture 2 other than that was near the end!

IMORTAL 2 LAGOS 1

A very good game to watch, end to end stuff for the most part with plenty of chances. Also, good to say, there were a lot less interruptions for free kicks than is normal for here.

No Nelson Moutinho or Nascimento for Imortal today. Moutinho's place was taken by a young player name of Fauro, who had a good game.

There was a strong wind blowing more or less straight down the pitch, which Lagos used to good advantage early on. But it was Imortal who created the first opportunities. First, Lucien made a good break down the right, but once near goal he couldn't make up his mind whether to shoot or pass giving the 'keeper the moment he needed to grab the ball from his feet. Then Mauro couldn't sort out his feet and was robbed on the six yard line.

Then Lagos really turned it on and as we came to the mid point of the first half they created three very good coal scoring opportunities in quick succession. A long range shot skimmed just  wide with Paulo stretching across his goal. I don't think he would have made it. Pedro then blocked a wicked inswinging corner on the line. Lagos' goal came from a breakaway, robbing Imortal on the half way line, a desperate attempt to stop them failed, the ref played a good advantage and it was two on one approaching the penalty area. A perfect pass and the shot was hit hard and low from 15 yards. 1-0 Lagos.

Imortal came back late in the half but, despite getting into the danger zone several times, they just couldn't make the decisive shot or pass.

Imortal began the second half with the wind at their backs. It began perfectly with a goal after just 23 seconds. A hefty boot upfield caused problems for the Lagos defence, a shot was blocked but it fell kindly to Fauro on the edge of the area. He calmly controlled the ball before hammering it into the bottom corner.

Imortal continued the good work. Chico had a corner almost go directly into goal, Mauro once again was in several minds and fluffed a chance. On the hour, all sorts of chaos in the Lagos defence resulted in another poor attempt to clear which fell to Lucien, who banged it in from close range to put Imortal into the lead.

Fauro and Mauro both departed soon afterwards to be replaced by Claudio and Marco Benje respectively.  A couple of minutes after coming on Benje was blatantly shoved to the ground but his and everyone else's claims for a penalty fell on deaf ears.

Lagos piled on the pressure in the closing period, forcing three corners in as many minutes. Defenders in red were hitting it anywhere but they held out for a well deserved win.

Next Saturday Imortal will be away to Faro e Benfica at the dismal Horta da Areia ground in Faro. Kick off will be 1730hrs which might mean I don't go. It is a horrible place in the daytime, let alone after dark!

Another excellent report. Thanks Tom. I know what you mean about a trip to Faro in the dark. I hate travelling though the centre, even in daylight. The Portuguese can be a bit unpredictable on roundabouts!
Usually skirt round it on the A22 if we are travelling beyond it.

I don't drive and that ground is in one of the, shall we say, less desirable areas. The only way back for me would be a 15 minute walk to the station and the train just after 8pm. The last bus on a Saturday is at 645pm.

The last time I went to a ground with such high and nasty looking fences around it was a visit to HMP Blantyre House in Kent - for a match I hasten to add!

I've also enjoyed a prison visit Tom. For a number of years, until 2005-2006 season I was managing a team in one of our local leagues here in Cheshire. One of the clubs was YOP (Young Offenders' Prison), Appleton, near Warrington. Inmates were aged up to 21. High fences, but not quite as intimidating as an adult institution.
They actually had a decent team. Mainly inmates, but with a couple of prison officers included as well. It was a bit surreal hearing the lads shouting, "Sir, sir, sir" when they wanted the ball played through by one of the officers. Needless to say, the pitch and the changing facilities were superb! An added bonus was the excellent buffet laid on after the game.

Blantyre started as a young offenders prison. When we went there in those days it was full of blokes who were or had been on the books of London clubs, so they were both a bit good and rather faster than our lot. They were also calling, sir sir!

Then it became a sort of pre-release prison so we were up against some experienced players who had been inside for a number of years and were also a lot fitter etc.

Then a few of them escaped one year and the prison team stopped playing two or three years ago.

Saturday evening's result : Faro e Benfica 2 Imortal 1 - I didn't go because of the ko time and the insalubrious area of their ground.

Imortal's game next Saturday has been called off.

Yesterday Silves 2 Imortal 3

Silves were awarded two penalties but Imortal gained a victory with one of their own in the closing minutes of a good game. More tomorrow.

Captain Pedro scores from the spot.

SILVES 2 IMORTAL ALBUFEIRA 3

A game of three penalties, two for Silves and the winning one for Imortal shortly before the end. Some more pictures from the game http://1drv.ms/1GUm1aq

The synthetic grass pitch installed after the 2012 tornado damage was nice and welcoming. Parts of the stadium have, though, never been repaired. It has no roof and the 'executive' seats are in ruins. But they have installed a bar in the ground!

A reasonable crowd of about 100 enjoyed a pleasant afternoon in the sunshine.

Silves first penalty came on 14 minutes from a defensive error after a corner. No complaints from Imortal, other than perhaps it shouldn't have been a corner in the first place. Penalty duly converted, 1-0 Silves.

Imortal applied the pressure, gaining three corners in a minute as Silves defence struggled to clear. A fourth corner wasn't cleared and Fischer turned  it in  from close range to equalise.

Imortal had one more chance in the first half but were denied by a fine tip-over save from the Silves 'keeper.

Silves began the second half well and kept Paulo in the Imortal goal well occupied but it was Imortal who took the lead after 63 minutes. Fauro seized on a poor clearance and scored with a low hard shot from 15 yards.

The game then went pretty much end to end. Imortal made their three subs in a short space of time to keep matters moving. Some wayward finishing denied Imortal a bigger lead.

Silves pressed again and with ten minutes of normal time remaining were given a corner. Imortal's defence didn't clear it properly and in the attempt to secure the loose ball down went a Silves forward. There were some small protests, but the spot kick stood and was scored. 2-2

Two minutes of normal time were left when Imortal's match winner penalty was given. Pato (I have been mis-spelling his name)= was fouled in the act of shooting, the ref was about 4 yards away, clear penalty. Captain Pedro stepped up and calmly smacked the kick past the 'keeper, low into the right hand corner.

Four minutes of added time were announced. Silves pushed hard for the equaliser. To our relief their best effort went well wide when the striker should have done better.

Match stats

Free kicks conceded : Imortal 12, Silves 14 including the penalties
Offside :Imortal 1, Silves 3
Shots on target. Imortal 6, Silves 3
Shots blocked : Imortal 1, Silves 2
Shots off target : Imortal 9, Silves 3
Corners :Imortal 8, Silves 7
Yellow cards : Imortal 0, Silves 4.
