I couldn't go yesterday and probably a good job too as Imortal slumped to a 1-0 defeat at Monchique.

Next Saturday they will be at home to bottom side Mexilhoeira Grande FC. The game will be on the top 3G pitch.

According to the official Algarve FA website, the game on 13th December away to Farense B will be played at the Algarve Stadium. Heaven knows why. I shall of course check this at the game this Saturday.

For me this is do-able by train, leaving Albufeira on the 1403 to Parque das Cidades and returning on the 1725.

This will provide a totally surreal setting for a county game. Maybe 100 fans in a 29,000 seater ground. There is no bar there for this sort game

It would seem that SC Farense's Under 19 team have a home game in the national championships that afternoon. Why they could not figure out a less expensive solution to the issue of having two matches on the same day is beyond me.

Imortal 2 Mexilhoeira Grande 0

Imortal duly beat the bottom club but as is often the case made very hard of work of breaking down the massed ranks of defenders.

I spoke with club officials about next Saturday's game as so far as they are concerned it will be at the Algarve Stadium. I will double check later in the week.

Imortal 2  - 0 Mexilhoeira Grande

Imortal laboured to a win over a very poor team, who before this game had scored only twice in nine games and had shipped twenty-six.

Team changes were evident after last week's poor show. Baldé was restored at left back in place of Claudio, the latter being injured. There was a first appearance for tall forward Mauro and even more surprising an appearance from the subs bench for Marco Benje. Paulo replaced Leandro in goal.

Imortal started well but soon became frustrated at their inability to break down the visitors defence. Two early headed chances were tame and easily dealt with by a large goalkeeper. Paco hit the crossbar with him well and truly beaten, then in the rush for the loose ball a huge collision between a defender and the diminutive Imortal midfielder Chico left both flat out. Chico was first to recover though.

Imortal continued to dominate in every aspect, but the final ball was often poor. Finally the breakthrough came on 25 minutes. A good run by Nascimento down the right was completed with a pull back from the goal line into the danger area where it was met with a side footed shot from Lucien on the six yard line. No chance for the 'keeper, 1-0.

A trademark free kick from all of 30 yards by Nelson was well saved and Lucien was just over with a great shot on the run before the half came to an end.

The visitors were very slow to come out for the second half and what with the game starting five minutes late the second did not kick off until 16.12!

Mauro immediately had a tame effort easily stopped. Imortal were playing some good football in midfield but again the final ball was poor. Mexilhoeira were playing a very high line and when Lucien broke the trap with a great run down the right the goalkeeper showed a great turn of speed to flatten him right out on the touchline. No free kick was awarded to the consternation of the crowd, who had seen 23 free kicks for anything and everything in the first half alone.

Marco Benje then replaced Mauro. Neither had much effect on the game. Benje was set up with what looked like an easy tap in after a surging run and cross by Baldé but he poked the effort wide to howls of derision from those watching.

Mexilhoeira then managed their first effort directly at goal and there followed a nervous period when Imortal must have feared the worst. Fears were dispelled on the half hour when Chico broke the offside trap, calmly confronted and then beat the 'keeper with a careful low shot into the corner of the net.

Lucien hit a post a few minutes later and the game petered out after that into a series of petty fouls, yellow cards and precious little football, with most of the small crowd having headed for the bar several minutes before the final whistle.

Next Saturday Imortal travel to face Farense B, the reserves of Segunda Liga side Farense. Imortal officials confirmed that the game is to be played in the Algarve Stadium, yes the big one.

Farense B 3 Imortal 0

Imortal were undone in the last quarter when the defence cracked under great pressure.

The game was played in the Algarve Stadium on a rather wet and mottled looking pitch.

Among the crowd of about 100 was a disreputable character upon whom the five GNR present kept a close eye.

No detailed match report this week as I forgot to take my notebook and pen!

It was 0-0 at half time with neither team playing particularly well. Farense had a speedy and skilful left winger, who was starting to cause problems and so it proved to be in the second half.

Three goals in rapid succession, of which he scored one and set up the second. Their third was a superb shot on the run from about 25 yards which three goalkeepers would not have stopped.

Imortal did rally a bit once 3-0 down, but it was far too late. Over the course of the match the strikers were totally ineffective. Defenders were left standing by the speed of their opponents.

Much thinking to be done by management before next week's match at home to 11 Esperanças.

A winner 4 minutes into stoppage time by young midfielder Mica gave Imortal a deserved 2-1 win over the biggest collection of cheats and foulers I have seen in a long time.

More later.

Imortal Albufeira 2 - 1 the 11 Esperanças

Imortal gained a deserved victory with a goal four minutes into the five added on at the end. The visitors, I can safely say, are the worst team seen here so far. Their spoiling tactics and very defensive play allied to some pretty blatant cheating made for a poor spectacle. But rather oddly there were 'only' twenty-four free kicks in the game, around half the usual number.

The game as a whole was pretty scrappy. The visitor's earned three yellow cards in the first half hour, two for cynical fouls and one for what looked like retaliation - Nelson Mountinho was flattened on the touchline after he had fouled an opponent. To the ire of the crowd it was only a yellow.

Imortal were completely dominating the game in terms of possession but some ill advised passing lead to moves breaking down before the enemy goal came into any danger.

There were only a small handful of shots and nothing much happening until ten minutes before half time. A rare foray over the halfway line by the 11 cheats found Imortal's defence wanting. A poor defensive header was seized on the edge of the area and blasted home.

Five minutes later there was a most bizarre incident, earning 11 Esperanças their fourth yellow card. Imortal had a corner, Mauro's resulting shot was blocked and the clearance was booted up the field. Moments before that, one of the visitors asked to leave the field as he was 'injured'. He was strolling off, boots in hand, along the half way line. The ref was wrong to allow the game to restart before the player had left the field. When the clearance arrived at his feet he proceeded to play the ball while still in his socks. Yellow card was flourished, for unsporting conduct and / or not being properly attired - you can't play in your socks!

Imortal had a late chance to equalise but a good run by Nascimento was finished with a very poor shot, miles over the bar from the edge of the area.

Nascimento earned himself a booking at the start of the second half when he clattered an opponent about half an  hour after the ball had gone. Cue some really dramatic rolling around and screaming from the victim, but the ref ignored him. Needless to say a miraculous recovery then occurred. There were several more such incidents later.

Ten minutes into the half Marco Benje replaced Mauro in the centre-forward position. Imortal started to play a lot better. Baldé was set up nicely by Nascimento on the half way line, made a good run down the left, was fouled, the ref played advantage but Baldé shot high and wide.

Nascimento then managed a shot which was pushed round for a corner and from that came the equaliser.  Corner taken, there was a right old scrum in the six yard box ending with Benje stabbing the ball over the line. Cue much yelling and shouting from the opposition but the goal stood.

Imortal then applied the pressure. Several more fouls and two more yellow cards resulted as the resistance grew increasingly desperate. Imortal's finishing was poor, Chico firing over when he should have done a lot better.

Five minutes stoppage time was announced. Imortal piled  forwards and were rewarded after four of those minutes. Mass defence failed to clear, there followed a bit of chaos ending with a great knockdown header by Nascimento which was swept into goal by young midfielder Mica, from about fifteen yards.

A good win against horrible opposition. That's five unbeaten now in a row at home. The away form needs addressing as the last three games, all defeats, have seen Imortal score nil and concede eight.

No game for Imortal next weekend. Next game will be away to Lagoa on Saturday 3rd January.

IMORTAL 3 - 1 OS ARMACANENSES

Imortal made hard work at times of this win against a very poor visiting team. For once there was a reasonably good crowd, swelled by quite a few from down the road in Armação de Pera.

First shock of the afternoon was to see the sprinkler system working, the first time it has done so for months. The second shock was Imortal opening the scoring in the first minute!

Half the crowd hadn't made it out of the bar when wing back Baldé embarked on a little run down the left, beat a defender with ease and crossed low to find captain and midfielder Pedro all by himself in front of the goalie. A deft flick of the boot and it was 1-0.

The game was a bit like a little war, long periods of boredom with nothing happening then suddenly it burst into life for a few moments, before subsiding.

That was the case after the opening goal. Imortal had all of the ball but, as has been the case often this season, failed to make anything constructive with it. Paco, who until the last moments had a bad day in front of goal, was guilty of a bad miss when he dallied too long and was thwarted by the 'keeper.

The second goal came mid-way through the half after a long period of boredom and again it was Pedro all alone. A good ball was swung out to the right by Conceição, Canito crossed and Pedro was on the six yard line with enough time to make the proverbial cup of tea before tapping in for number two.

The visitors woke up a bit after that but a howler of mis-kick in front of goal ended their only opportunity of the half. The 20 minutes or so from then until the interval were devoid of anything worthwhile, then five minutes before the break Paco was though again after the referee played a good advantage. Again he waited too long before shooting and the 'keeper was well positioned to save once he did. Paco then was wayward with a header as the half came to a close.

The second half started very quietly. There were not even any dodgy free kicks for anyone to get worked up about. Paco had another chance to make it 3-0 but once again fluffed his lines.

Then a rare Armação attack was ended by Canito with the slightest touch on his opponent just inside the area out on the goal line. Down he went, penalty given which was duly converted. For a few minutes after that Imortal were under pressure but for once the defence held out and nothing came of the possession. There was a little burst of things happening halfway through the second period. Paco had yet another chance to make things fairly safe but shot weakly, Nelson Moutinho joined in by shooting well wide when unopposed from the edge of the penalty area. Marco Benje tried to lob the 'keeper but was a foot too high.

Things then returned to peace and quiet until the end of the ninety minutes. Home fans and players were a bit twitchy when Arnacanenses gained two corners in quick succession but they were delivered as poorly as the average Premier League corner so nothing came of them.

Five minutes additional time were announced and finally Imortal and Paco got the third goal they wanted. A good move was started by Benje in the middle of the park, a pass out left found Moutinho whose final ball to Paco found him just inside the penalty area. At last he shot confidently to hit the target low and hard.

A slight sigh of relief at the end. It was not a very good game but a win's a win.

Imortal's next game is on Wednesday night when they travel to Odiaxere for the second round of the Algarve Cup, then follows a very difficult league match on Saturday away to second placed Moncarpachense.

Match stats

Free kicks conceded : Imortal 11 plus the penalty, Armacanenses 8 (told you it was a quiet game!)
Offside : Imortal 2, Armacanenses 1 (very quiet)
Shots on target : Imortal 5, Armacanenses 1 (the penalty)
Shots blocked : Imortal 0, Armacanenses 2
Shots off target : Imortal 6, Armacanenses 5
Corners : Imortal 2, Armacanenses 3
Yellow cards : Imortal 2, Armacanenses 1
