Several factors impact on the rate like for example better than expected growth of the UK economy fears about a  "Grexit" Eurozone still in deflation. Also we should see the rate changing a bit in the next few weeks with the UK general election. Fogers crossed will keep going up :-)

Highest today 1.3957... For those of us needing to take £ to € it's great news.
For our nephew paid in € but living in UK it isn't so good, I do feel sorry ..

The beer I prefer might go up because of this. Still, we cannot have it both ways.

There's an apartment in our block that went up for sale in 2009 at €135,000.
At the time the ex rate was around the 1.10 mark.
If you are from the UK and wanted to buy it then it would have cost you £123,000.
It didn't sell, was taken off the market after a couple of years but has recently been put up for sale again for €120,000.
If you are from the UK and wanted to buy it now, with an exchange rate of 1.40, it would cost you just £85,000.
That's a £38,000 (30%) reduction.

1.32 for cash here in town yesterday.  Quite a difference.

(I saw a young woman come out of the change shop with an open envelope absolutely stuffed with Euros. Do people never learn?)
