The credit / debit card rate should be a couple of cents better than the paltry 66.5 for cash, even taking into account charges levied by your bank for foreign exchange.

The big stores have a lot of bargains on the wine shelves right now!

I hate how peopleï compare Frank Zappa to God. I mean, he's cool and great and nice and everything, but he's no Zappa.

For those residents who are paid in £ does the improvement in the rate for € help defray the increase in prices?
It is no coincidence that in no known language does the phrase 'As pretty as an Airport' appear. Douglas Adams

Sure does. When I moved here it was €1.44 or so to the £. At one low point a while later the rate was actually just less than 1 for 1.

So each £ I get in my UK pension goes a bit further the better the rate.

The drop in oil prices means we haven't seen any increase in train, bus or taxi fares this January. Most other prices seem pretty stable except electricity went up by a tiny amount.

And the nice sunny weather means minimal heating bills!

That's good. Thanks.
In the early 2000s I seem to remember getting almost €3 for £2.

'tis indeed heartening for those of us who have a need to buy Euro's with Sterling, oh for 1.44 again!
I'm presuming this (the mid morning surge) is in response to the Swiss Franc being cut free.

In October 2002, when we bought our apartment, we got 1.63
Then, the 93,000 Euro price tag equaled £57,000
That's still £14,500 below today's rate at 1.30
Bargain.

Similar scenario for us, we paid our deposit at 1.44 and didn't forward reserve for the balance which we paid about seven weeks later at 1.42, that cost us a few bob I can tell you!
