Back on Euro track and it's another ice cream off the list for the children. Rate here yesterday for cash down to 1.127
The drop in the rate is now almost 7 cents in a month. |

After another 2 days of decline it looks to have bottomed out at around 1.17 and it's showing a very small increase this morning (average online tourist rate at around 1.14)
Looks like it's going to be a long haul back up to 1.20 & I doubt if we'll see the heady heights of 1.28 again for a very long time. |

I hate how peopleï compare Frank Zappa to God. I mean, he's cool and great and nice and everything, but he's no Zappa.

Not started the week off well - official rate currently trading at just above 1.15 this morning.
I've seen an HSBC forecast that says it's going to settle at around 1.12 & stick at that level for the foreseeable future. When we flew out on Saturday the airport was offering a miserable 1.04. |

Never change your cash at an airport. Any airport. |

I don`t see why you are expecting a `euro crisis` ... though you may see speculators push the pound up at some point, possibly leaving the dollar. When that happens, I will convert all my UK cash into euro !
The EU crisis was effectively solved by Central bank, IMF (Troika) propping up the borrowing requirements of the southern countries, who have all taken measures to reduce spending and borrowing. Everyone agrees this is very tough ... maybe too tough ... but it has put the euro on front foot. And as far as trade with Sterling area is concerned ... everything has become cheaper for the poorer EU countries... so that means less borrowing too. As things improve further the ECB could in fact guarantee all borrowing at close to the German rate ... slashing the remaining southern debt overnight. For me, the pound will always have that hanging over it, as well as a poor reactionary government, falling exports, a continuing banking crisis and a major contributor financial sector that is under threat from the EU. |
