Last 12 months from BBC website

I hate how peopleï compare Frank Zappa to God. I mean, he's cool and great and nice and everything, but he's no Zappa.

Checked the graph. The rate dropped by about 7 cents to the £ between February 2012's high until June 2012 then climbed back up again to more or less the previous level, which is where it was in late December. This current fall is bit steeper, with a fall of 4 cents within the last three weeks. Now it's in a bit of a wobble, to my untutored eye there's a spike upwards this morning.

If you want to be really depressed, here's a 10 year chart

Pyrman
The quote was the pound will always be more stable than the euro. If I had to choose I know which currency I would invest in.
All currencies fluctuate but the fluctuation is more the unstable euro, the dollar and the pound are pretty much tandem. If the likes of the UK did not throw so much money at the rest of Europe bailing it out and sanctioning handout after handout they would be up the swanee with its euro. Look at the Irish Republic could not spend the handouts fast enough now it`s in  s**t street Portugal and others going the same way as our friends who have businesses there will vouch.
So when-hopefully-Scotland- get their independence what are the exports going to be that is going to keep the country thriving? The North Sea gas/oil...... that will pay the unemployment/sickness benefits in Glasgow.
Then what`s left whisky, shortbread and tourism.. maybe other things that don`t spring to mind
You have your euro I prefer my pound.
