I have added just a few recent pictures from this project at http://thomasallen.spaces.live.com

Any comments from civil engineers and road building types appreciated!

Went past on the bus earlier this evening. Men and machines were working under floodlights laying tarmac on the stretch between the Repsol garage and the Health Centre. Made me think that this section will be open in the not too distant future. But it is still very messy around there, there is presently a diversion around the diversion, while a new road junction is being built outside the Ali Super.

Still one-way traffic (towards Albufeira) and absolutely no safe walking route between Camping Albufeira/Clube Albufeira and town - take the bus.

Some pictures I took on Tuesday can be seen at http://thomasallen.spaces.live.com in the latest album.

Things are changing rapidly! It is still southbound only between the Health Centre and old town but traffic is now using the new carriageway. The other one is being tidied up and relaid. The road down to the Health Centre itself has been partially restored and the diversions moved around a bit.

Work has also started on the cut for the new stretch of road behind the Health Centre and up the hill, which will bypass the present narrow and twisty road.

I will get some pictures at the weekend.

I went that way yesterday. Men and machines working furiously even though it was a holiday. The road that comes down the hill from behind Pateo is closed at the health centre end. The other diversions are still in place.

I took some pictures which I am sorting out and they should be viewable by lunchtime today, Wednesday.

Photos now up at http://thomasallen.spaces.live.com

There is still a great deal of work to be done and the area is best avoided, certainly it is not yet safe to walk that way.

Work is proceeding furiously and the new roads are really taking shape now, as are the strange wiggly footpaths. Diversions were still in place yesterday. I will get some pictures at the weekend, weather permitting.

From what I saw yesterday it seems as if the road will be open very soon in both directions but using only one carriageway. The road markings are down but there is still some tidying up to do which won't be easy in this weather.

I took a few pictures which I will sort out later and post in the usual place.

Two way traffic now restored, still temporary road surfaces though. Both carriageways in use!

Presumably they are allowing submersibles along the road!

The footpath alongside the road is just about OK (there are some potholes and a few yards at the end are missing) from the Health Centre to the old town roundabout but between Camping Albufeira etc and the Health Centre you will still have to walk along the 'bottom' road past the supermarket. It's still not 100% a safe walking route especially with kids in tow.

A month on and the bad weather has been delaying the project.  Some trees have been planted alongside the raging torrent that is presently the river channel. The footpaths are slowly taking shape, but there is a sea of mud which cannot be pleasant to work in. Both carriageways of the road are open, but there is a temporary surface in parts with some rather pronounced 'humps' so be careful if you drive down there, especially at night.

The streetlights are mostly working but the footpath is still incomplete, so the advice remains not to walk down from Camping Albufeira or Clube Albufeira especially at night.

Oh, and beyond Clube Albufeira towards the N125 the road is full of potholes, so be careful there as well.

I will get some photos this afternoon and publish them tomorrow.

I hope to get some new pictures later but the recent rain all but stopped the work. Both sides of the road are open, but drive slowly and carefully as there are unmarked ramps and potholes waiting to remove your axles.

There is still no footpath on the stretch nearest town and it remains dangerous to walk that way eg from Clube Albufeira.
