Best head for the airport now if your flight is tomorrow!  Border guards and passport control staff are on strike 24th and 25th August.

Official word is "... all Passengers scheduled to travel on August 24 and 25, travelling to the UK, Ireland, Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Cyprus and non-European countries to arrive at Portuguese airports at least 4 hours prior to departure time."

They suggest using the electronic gates, which is a bit of a laugh as those at Faro are never open.

There will also be delays in entering Portugal, but there's nothing you can do about that.

Yep, this from The Algarve Daily News...

The SEF strike, scheduled for Thursday and Friday, was called off after a meeting at the Ministry of Internal Affairs late on Wednesday at which "The conditions are met so we can stop the strike."

One of the measures that contributed to this outcome was the authorization by the Ministry of Finance for the "external recruitment of 100 new inspectors, which adds to the internal competition that has already enabled this year to provide the SEF with 45 new inspectors."

The strike was for today as well as tomorrow, so you'd have still copped for it if it hadn't been cancelled. 😕
