Not good for Avril and her clan though, even closer to her!

It has to be stopped before they hang a sign up at Faro Airport saying 'Unfortunately Albufeira is currently closed for business, please try again later'

Just had a nice positive reply similar to other members replies from Mr Jewell Clap.

Tig I thought the same about CCTV on the escalators & elevator but I am sure when these low lifes get the jist they would wear hoodies or something similar to conceal their identities.
Wonder how much these stun guns are on the weblink cubby has posted, I would love to shove one up a low lifes a*s*.

Can't do that Polli, you would then be infringing on their basic human rights to mug people without any danger of resistance.

Civil Liberties - they don't deserve any. I'm all for CCTV, ID cards, large police presence etc anywhere. If you are innocent you shouldn't mind any of the aforementioned, it is all really for your protection not just to keep an eye on you.

I am still coming over for New Year (I've already changed the flights once from this summer when we decided to drive instead) but I am being honest with you when I say I am not looking forward to it. I will have my alarm, I will not walk home late at night, and unfortunately my boys will not be allowed to stay out on their own, even though James will be nearly 19 by then!!! Adult or not he will be going home with us!!

As for next year, I have already booked to go to Majorca instead, back to a hotel we have gone to many, many times for over 10 years and where we feel entirely safe and secure. We are really sad that we have our own home in Albufeira and at this moment in time feel we would rather be elsewhere.

Chris apart from the fact they are illegal to buy in the UK if I did have a chance to buy one it would give me the greatest of pleasure to use it,and then see how they feel, but knowing my luck I would be clapped in jail for illegal retaliation.

Are those sort of things illegal here I wonder? Get your retaliation in first. It's hardly a defence to say  'well we was trying to rob this bloke and he whacked us round the head with a club'.

I saw actual real policemen patrolling the area near the escalators last night on the way back home around 0030hrs. First time in ages.

Tom that website euro products is based in the Czech republic, maybe they arn't illegal there.

I decided to look at the instructions and effects of it:

EFFECTS OF THE STUN GUN

1/4 seconds...short stroke, which causes a

muscular spasm and fright to the assailant.

1-3 seconds...medium stroke, which may cause a

fall of the assailant to the ground and a mental

commotion and shock; however, the assailant is

likely to stand-up again after a short moment.

4-5 seconds...full stroke, which causes the assailant to loose

orientation and a shock for several minutes, it may also make him

fall.

We recommend you not to show uselessly the stun gun to the assailant, since

moment of surprise plays very important role in such situations. It makes

effect of shock even stronger.

Warning: A discharge lasting more than 3 seconds may cause a fall of

the assailant. Upon falling, the mere own weight of the assailant can harm him

Avril,

I have been here almost exclusively since April and never once felt threatened. There is a problem here, that's for sure, but sensible precautions are all that is required to minimise the danger.

Come over and enjoy yourself, just get a taxi home if you are partying in to the wee hours.

My God, the voice of reason at last. I feared that this thread was starting to stray into the realms of vigilante. If you feel the need to do something why not carry a bottle of perfume with you. sprayed into the eyes it would incapacitate the assailant long enough for you to run. No-one can be found fault with for carrying such an item as it is something which would be found in most ladies' handbags. If the men feel they need to have something how about a small spray with either shampoo or washing up liquid in it. Same effect and not something which has the potential to kill like a stun gun. Before you say that a stun gun cannot kill, it can. If it is used on someone with a heart defect (and it is possible to have a heart defect without knowing it) then you could be charged with murder. Worth thinking about.

Well I carry a personal attack alarm around with me, which gives me a little piece of mind, but even that maybe not be of help if you are confronted with a gun.Sensible precautions don't always apply, it depends how you are confronted. I agree sebastian regards the stun gun, dangerous they may be that's possibly why they are illegal in some countries.
BTW Chris are you now an illegal immigrant Wink

Ok, so i'm probably gonna get slated for saying this, but i'll say it anyway.
The idea of a mugger/attacker dying from a heart attack while mugging/attacking me gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside. Obviously i wouldn't want to face a murder charge but if i was being attacked i hope i'd  use anything i could lay my hands on to defend myself.
