Thank you for your kind words Polli,

Perhaps the reason I have not been assaulted is I look like the sort of person you would give money to for a nice hot cup of tea.

I think sawing off one of my legs and sitting on the floor next to a wee dog also helped.

The idea of a mugger/attacker dying from a heart attack while mugging/attacking me gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside. Obviously i wouldn't want to face a murder charge but if i was being attacked i hope i'd  use anything i could lay my hands on to defend myself.

Yes, by all means use anything you could get your hands on to protect yourself but it still wouldn't protect you from possibly being held up for murder if the attacker died. I don't know how the police would react here but in the UK if you caused the death of another person, even if they were attacking you, the law would more than likely come down heavily on you not the perpertrator.

Maybe it would be interesting to find out if  portuguese law would be on your side for protecting yourself by whatever means. I was told by a DI in Faro that the law is different to the UK and you can retaliate with force, but what that entails is another thing.

It a shame they never tried anything with me and my mates when we were over, they are all fit handy lads with a background in boxing and martial arts and the lads wouldn't of thought twice about getting there retaliation in first if threatened  Angry

I have a Portuguese friend who knows quite a few PJ officers. I will ask her to see if she knows.

Thankfully I have never felt threatened either and it's hard to imagine all this is going on whilst you are there.  It's a sad fact that in most places including our own Country crime is on the increase and it's worrying wherever you are.

Yes very true Avril, another mugging took place last night near the Silchoro, a couple with their two children. OMG I just wonder what it must have been like for two young children to experience this and how it will affect them in future. This is getting out of hand.

I have put the email address on the trip advisor forum and have urged anyone on there to write, so hopefully they will Andrew. It is so important to do so.

Poll, one and the same to my mind, and intent in my post.

Avril, cheers, that's good to know, I totally agree, every name that is recieved adds weight to our, the, point. I mailed Clive Jewel from work and had specific, polite and considered response. Trish cut and pasted my mail and sent from home. Her response was a thankyou and that the points raised were answered in his response to me, but it was still another name, another one on the count, of those concerned.

Folks, that's anyone who hasn't mailed yet, PLEASE DO SO AND WITH ALL HASTE!
Andrew
