Showing 61F at Faro on Wunderground at the moment, so I think Albufeira.com's link  may have a bit of a glitch !!

Today in Albufeira the sun has just come out (I am back) and it is looking good. Time to put out the washing!

it may well have been 46F overnight; it was lower than that a couple of weeks ago.

It's still showing 46F, can it not be fixed, it does not look good for attacting people thinking of comming for a holiday in the not to distant future, they will think we have been hit by Global Cooling rather than warming!

Posted By: Sagres
Date Posted: 16/January/2008 at 15:17
I should imagine that the data comes from an external feed over which Albufeira.com's administration has no control. (Although I'm open to correction on that !Ermm )

Date Posted: 16/January/2008 at 17:29
Sagres is right. The raw data (called METAR) is coming from Faro airport which is distributed via Internet that we pick up and convert into readable information.
They are still delivering readings regularly but the temperature seems to be stuck.
We're investigating...
Sorry for the inconvenience.

The sky is blue and the forecast is for 18C, variable winds and maybe a few clouds. Unfortunately the radar is off-line so I cannot see for myself whether there is any rain in the offing!

Another bright, warm and sunny day in prospect! Forecast 18C with a few clouds; variable light winds.

No rain at present within 100km.

Now why did I move down here?

Same reason as those of us who are still 'doing time' at work before making the exact same move perhaps? The place, the pace, the people, the weather...

Current weather report on Albufeira.com homepage is working properly now.
We had to change the source of the raw data readings which wasn't being updated correctly.
We hope this current source will be more reliable...

Well Guya will be in mid-air now and as the flight crosses the Algarve there will be a perfect view, as another bright sunny day is with us. 19C is the forecast and more of the same tomorrow; maybe a little cooler on Monday with a little cloud.

I left Albufeira last Sunday 21st Jan to brill sunshine at 09.00hrs, weather clear all the way until we hit coast  of Spain (Santander) then clouds all the way to Manchester. Arrived home to rain rain and more rain, our garden at home was flooded. I believe the 7 day forecast for Faro is Sun Sun Sun, so you lucky people who are there enjoy  it. I'll be back in May to break my depression of the UK horrible weather. Cheers Jayjan

To be honest that was the hottest I've known it on a night. I've been going to the Algarve since 1984 and one of the reasons I keep going back is that the temperatures on a night (unlike Greece etc) are usually bearable.

However while we where there last July, the temps on a night dropped about 10c in the space of two nights. All in all, I'd say the Algarve has one of the best climates anywhere.

Posted By: cubsur
Date Posted: 24/January/2008 at 09:56
Yes last July was a bit hot. There is usually a bit of a breeze off the sea, so depending on where you are staying that will most times keep the temperature and humidity bearable.

I wouldn't say air-con is essential.

That radar image comes from the official Portugese Met office website www.meteo.pt

You can see the rain coming!

For those of you not here, Monday 12noon it is grey and overcast but mercifully a lot less windy and there's no rain at the moment, but there's a nasty looking lot of stuff around Gibraltar and Cadiz heading this way. 200km at 22km per hour winds = rain by tonight!

I was told by two eye-witnesses  that a mini-tornado swept through the old town square at about this time yesterday. It didn't last long but was strong enough to scatter tables and chairs.

You can just see, I think, the 'cone' forming at the centre of the picture above.

I was also told that the skies were literally 'boiling' over near Armacao de Pera.

Well it's good job I went out for a day yesterday (Wednesday) as the skies are turning very black out there as I write (0835 Thursday). There is a lump of weather approaching from the south-west. Wind direction is all over the place so I am not sure which part of the coast it will hit. It's not very warm either

Afternoon All

Is the weather picking up in Albufeira now, as i read that you've had it poor over the last couple of weeks . Is this normal for Feb and does it get sunnier in March.

Posted By: cubsur
Date Posted: 01/March/2008 at 09:04
Today (Saturday 1st March) has dawned bright and clear. Not a speck of rain showing on the radar within 300km and not a cloud in sky on the satellite picture. Forecast is for 20C/68F today. it's a bit early to say the weather has completely picked up but it's  a good sign.

20C is 3 or 4C above average for this time of year and the forecast does say it will drop to 7 or 8 at night, which is about the normal - that's cold enough to see your breath.

Rain - you never know!

Cannot turn off the rain just yet! 730am Wednesday and it is grey and cloudy with a whole bunch of rain moving across from the south-west. It is not raining just at the moment but it's very windy, around 25mph steady wind and the whole of Portugal is on orange alert for high winds today.

It's not as nasty (yet) as yesterday morning - visibility is much better and I can actually see across the marina to the sea beyond.

It does look like the worst of the rain will miss Albufeira, hitting the coast between Faro and border and making the eastern Algarve and south-west Spain rather wet.

What will the visitors do with themselves today I wonder?

It's supposed to be getting a little better by Friday bur rather cool, a maximum of 15C/58F only.

It was much better today than yesterday (purely relative) as it hasn't actually rained yet. It's been overcast cloud all day and not very warm. There's some rain moving in from the south-west as I write.

It is forecast to be drying up by the weekend with temperatures back to around 18C which is about average for April.

Last summer was pretty good until 30th September, when the heavens opened.

Yes Luis and there is a saying in English 'April Showers' which this year have been of snow in much of the UK.

The heavens certainly did open. That was the day we arrived. We were at the Rocomar, a river was flowing past the front door along with tables, chairs and anything else that floated! However, three days later the sun came out and stayed out for the rest of the week, hopefully it will be the same this time!

Clout: patch, piece of clothing (OED); historically the canvas stretched over a frame to make an archery target OR a nail with a large flat head. Receipe for confusion there? Also of course what your parents did to you when you misbehaved.

April showers? More like April monsoons!

9am Thursday and guess what? It is bucketing down.

I have a couple of rugs outside getting a free rinse.

Some more coming our way so it looks like another wet day in prospect.

hahaaa. so now we know exactely where you live... Tongue

Weather is supposed to get better during the afternoon. But, as said before, "Abril, Águas Mil !"
IMO Better to have all the rain now than during high season.

Yes the sun has come out but don't hold your breath as there is a bit more wet to come then it looks a lot better.

True enough about having the rain now. Think of all those unhappy little faces if this were August! Good business for Zoomarine - just seen two packed coaches off on their way over there.

Quite right, Administrator & Cubsur.  Think of us, we who are stuck in Englang have it permanently all year round.  By the way whoever heard of smow (& so much of it) & hail in April!!!  I don't remember it (or has it become the norm that I just don't notice it anymore.

This morning here in North East Blighty it was lovely and sunny. Took the mutz on the beach which was packed with other dogs and stray owners. However it is absolutely chucking it down now and freezing, hope the weather there changes by Saturday or I might not come!

Well according to our on the spot reporter, cubsur,it's not been that brilliant in Albufeira!
Have to say,the west of Scotland was sunny and beautiful the last two days, and looks promising today.
Just fifteen days to go for us ....

Well you will be pleased to know that today is a lot better than of late. It is fairly windy and a bit cool but the only rain around is a few very small showers mostly out to sea.

Saturday has dawned bright and clear. Current temperature 10C/50F forecast to be 20C/68F this afternoon. Winds from the north and not a speck of rain within 200 miles. Should be OK for the weekend at least, growing cloudier on Monday with a chance of rain.

For the record, last Tuesday's little event resulted in about 38mm or 1 1/2 inches of rain falling on the day. That is a lot of water! Another 3/4 inch fell on Thursday.

It turned out rather better today than was forecast, although a big black cloud did pass across Vilamoura at lunchtime. it's a bit windy but hasn't rained; there are a few clouds in the sky. Contrast to the picture around 2am when there were howling gales rattling my doors and windows.

The weather radar shows a huge mass of nasty stuff off the coast to the west all the way to Sagres but it might just miss. Otherwise it will be a bit wet this evening.

If you're coming down at the weekend, rain is forecast for the whole of Portugal for Saturday and Sunday. Bring your macs.

Suppose its better than the big black clouds hanging around the long stay car park in the sky over Manchester at the moment and also winds of around 40mph. Roll on Monday when I arrive, anythings gotta be better than UK

915am Sunday. it's been raining on and off since yesterday evening. The sky is full of showers so it's looking wet again for today, probably when I want to go out later,

Current temperature 12C/53F
